Gabriel
Besides the furniture itself, which was also and different style than what he was used to, everything in the room was unfamiliar to him. When the room shook, his entire body went rigid. He could hear a roaring, though to him it sounded far away, from something he didn’t know. He stumbled at the shaking, feeling disorientated. What was wrong with him? This wasn’t a bad tremor.
When Lucy spoke, he could barely hear her, but it was clear she was in distress. He reached out and claimed her hand again, pulling it away from her shirt. “If…if a demon can preserve life and joy, you can create joy, you can be a hero. Heroine, I think it is called. And yeah, it does get hard.” He swallowed. “The amount of times I’ve wanted to walk away, the amount of times I’ve…wanted to give up as the Protector…Lucy, everyday I’m so tired, everyday I run on fumes, as my body gets torn to shreds, as it slowly dies, and then I use my powers, to borrow a little more time, but the more the power gives, the more it takes, and in the end I pay for it. And all for what? For me to hide myself because the people who cheer for the Protector would also kill Gabriel? For the people I destroy myself for to eventually turn on me? Like my father?” He pulled down his neckline just enough for her to briefly see a scar from an arrow on Gabriel’s chest. “I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t hard. But everyday I also have to remember that I do this for them because even if they will hate me, for now I get to see their smiles and keep myself from descending into the darkness my parents thought I was.”
He wasn’t sure if this would help her at all, he wasn’t even sure he had heard all that she had said correctly, but he couldn’t watch her be sad for long.
Idk if this is good or bad, I’m posting this because I’m mentally done for tonight. I’ll be back again tomorrow.

Help Gabriel.June 30, 2026 at 2:02 am #212553Acharis’ people live on floating islands, which is why he doesn’t know what a labyrinth is and is and is horrified at what he sees as a waste of space.
Ohh that’s cool! I love the idea of floating islands. I used to have a fantasy world like that but I changed it.
Iris
Rallascant snorted loudly, then doubled over and began laughing uncontrollably. Iris gave him a scathing look, but he didn’t notice. She smiled gently at Acharis.
“No, you are not dead.”
“Ha! Not yet.”
Iris nudged the imp roughly with her foot to get him to stop. His laugh turned into a cough, and he seemed to somewhat compose himself.
“You are just… very far from home,” Iris continued. “But there is a way to return.”
The water in the basin rippled again, this time of its own accord. The image shifted to a dark room where someone with a skinny, spotted hand held up a purplish crystal ball. They slowly rotated it, watching the imperfections in the crystal catch the light.
“There are many of these crystals hidden throughout the maze. Find one, and it will send you back home.”
The image faded. Iris peered intently at Acharis, trying to read his emotions through his mask. “How are you feeling?”

July 2, 2026 at 4:44 pm #212561@loopylin oooh i like it
Sniper
This room was someone else’s. A child’s.
I’m no kid expert, but even I knew the scrap metal on the floor looked like a hazard.
“Sometimes you wonder… what’ve you done? And it’s hard for you to be good without h…hurting inside your head, and hurting my… hm. Yourself.” Lucy whispered.
I looked down at my own claws, barely hearin’ Gabriel’s response.
Those words struck a bit too close to home for my comfort.
I stayed in the doorway, dreadin’ what we’d encounter when we opened my world’s door.
Huntress
“…The amount of times I’ve wanted to walk away, the amount of times I’ve…wanted to give up as the Protector…Lucy, everyday I’m so tired, everyday I run on fumes, as my body gets torn to shreds, as it slowly dies, and then I use my powers, to borrow a little more time, but the more the power gives, the more it takes, and in the end I pay for it. And all for what? For me to hide myself because the people who cheer for the Protector would also kill Gabriel? For the people I destroy myself for to eventually turn on me? Like my father?” Gabriel showed a scar below his collarbone, most likely from an arrow.
His father did that?
“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t hard. But everyday I also have to remember that I do this for them because even if they will hate me, for now I get to see their smiles and keep myself from descending into the darkness my parents thought I was.” he continued.
Wow.
All right then.
And I thought Scout and I had it bad back in the day…..
But that wasn’t my focus. I fixated instead on one of the things Lucy had said.
“You have both your mom and dad around?” I asked Lucy, kneeling down so I was a bit closer to her level. “I didn’t….I didn’t have my dad there with us. My brothers, well, sometimes they acted like it was my fault he was gone, even though I didn’t even know him. And sometimes they didn’t even do it on purpose, but it still made me feel….horrible. Like I didn’t deserve all the good things that happened to me. Like maybe, yeah, maybe you are gonna make your mom and dad cry and there’s nothing you can do about it.” I looked over at Gabriel, and then my eyes briefly flitted to Sniper standing in the doorway.
I don’t think either realized I was addressing all three of them with those last few sentences.
I turned back to Lucy. “But you’re just a kid, Lucy. It’s okay if you don’t have the answers. It’s all right if you don’t know how to ‘be good’ or if you don’t know what hurts, you have time to learn.” I chuckled. “I didn’t realize that when I was your age, or even afterward, and it got me in a load of trouble. Trust me, if you really knew my team and what led to me and my twin joining it…..Yeah. We’ve all got issues. Some of us still don’t know how to fix what hurts.”
Gerald handled that. You don’t question Gerald. (if you know you know)

Acharis
He wasn’t dead. That was good, at least.
Acharis found Iris’ gaze discomforting. The layer of wood over his face didn’t feel like enough protection as she appeared determined to bore holes through it with her eyes. He looked away and reminded himself that she could not see his irritation and fear. Not fear. That was too strong a word. Apprehension? Maybe. Mild apprehension.
“It doesn’t matter.” Acharis said after a moment, brushing the question aside, “I’m going to find one of those crystals so I can leave now. Farewell, Iris and…” He paused. The smaller creature hadn’t given its name. Gesturing vaguely in its direction, he finished, “You.”

July 11, 2026 at 2:04 am #212602@highscribeofaetherium sorry for dropping off the face of the earth there for a bit
Rallascant
Rallascant waved to him, wiggling his fingers. Iris solemnly returned to her pedestal and said her farewell. As Acharis turned and began to leave, Rallascant called after him, “Don’t forget to ask for help if you ever need it!”

Gabriel said a lot of things, and Lucy struggled to follow everything he was saying. The woman in the group of fighter people – Huntress – joined in, and added more words. It was all very confusing. But at least Gabriel was holding her hand.
And one thing stuck.
Lucy could do good things. She was just new to this – to everything – and she had time to learn.
With time, with experimentation – maybe she would figure out how to do the right things with her feelings. After all, at least one person in this room had been like her, and he had grown up to be a good guy.
“Hm. Okay. I think I understand.” Lucy took a long breath and looked around the room, still swaying. She coughed and shrugged her shoulders. “So – So if you guys are good people now and there’s nothin’ wrong with you, I just have to wait. And things will… things will be fine.”

Mel tottled into the room, squinting at everything from behind a few tangled strands of red hair. There was a red mark on her cheek from sleeping on her side, and her hair was a bit more frizzy on that side as well. She immediately planted herself next to Huntress and held her hand without looking at her. Then she yawned and blinked slowly, still trying to remember where and who she was.

July 17, 2026 at 4:28 pm #212656Huntress
Mel must’ve woken up. She blinked and yawned, making me stifle a yawn also. She took my hand like she had no idea who we were but was grasping at someone who’d be able to tell her.
I slipped my hand out of the grip, confused but not wanting to upset her.
Soldier came close, but I stopped him before he said anything that startled her or smothered her in his feathers. “Don’t come close,” I warned. “You’ll startle her. You don’t like being brushed with anything when you wake up, do you?”
Gerald handled that. You don’t question Gerald. (if you know you know)
July 17, 2026 at 9:01 pm #212660It is so fun having a child character to confuse the adults with hehe
(also, sorry if I interrupted the moment y’all were having)
Melissa
Mel looked up at Huntress, frowned confusedly, and then immediately walked over to Gabriel and held his hand.
She intended to hold somebody’s hand. That way, she wouldn’t get left behind. She was too tired to pay attention to her surroundings, so she would latch onto someone else who could do that for her. She stared down at the ground, her brow furrowing in a stubborn expression.Any paint can be finger paint if you don't care enough

Gabriel
Gabriel gently squeezed Mel’s hand, casting Huntress a quick look as if he was horrified she would deny a child’s hand like that. He smiled at Lucy, before looking down at Mel. “Did you sleep well? Don’t fall asleep on your feet, okay?”
I know, it’s short. Also Lucy and Mel, if you two keep this up, Gabriel’s going to go full dad. Not complaining, I think it will be funny, but now he’s got two girls to look after, and he happily will.
