I don’t hate mozzarella (I actually kinda like it) but that is a very accurate description of a cheese stick. I don’t like my cheese too slimy, luckily cheese sticks aren’t usually like that (at least not the brand my mom buys) but fresh mozzarella used on pizza typically is so I hold off on eating that until it’s shredded and the outer sliminess is largely gone.

MelMel giggled. “You guys are all eating them wrong.”
She handed Lucy a cheese stick, and then Soldier three more. Then she held her own cheese stick up in the air like a baton.
“Tour time! Come on.”
She began wandering around the kitchen and living room, pointing out various things she considered important.
“That’s the fridge… That’s the table where I do my homework… that’s the tv… the couch… the bookshelf… Oh! And my comic books! Do you guys wanna see?”
She didn’t wait for an answer and began pulling out thin paperbacks from the bottom shelf. She held them up as she talked about each one.
“The Incredible Hulk! He turns into a big green monster when he’s mad. But he’s actually a good guy. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone. He just can’t help it sometimes. And here’s Spiderman. He’s cool. And pretty funny. And this guy is my favorite! He doesn’t have superpowers, but he’s still super cool and has a buncha gadgets. His name is Batman. He’s awesome.” She got distracted and began happily reading the book in her hand. Several other comic books laid scattered on the floor around her.

Sniper
Mel handed three cheese sticks to Soldier, who ate ’em as ravenously as he did the first. She pointed out the various furnishings; I held back a chuckle as I realized she probably thought we weren’t familiar with all of it. (I don’t know about Gabriel, or Lucy, but everythin’ I saw ‘ere was somethin’ I’d see in my own house, although hers were a bit…sleeker, more like what you’d see in an Australis city than in my outback home.)
She then brought out a few comic books excitedly, givin’ the names of characters adornin’ the fronts and backs before settlin’ down to read the one in her hand.
“Scout would love these.” Huntress took one and flipped through it.
“Look at this one!” Soldier proudly held up a comic with a human bloke wearing red, white and blue on the front. Actually, almost all of the subjects of these comics were human, with only a few exceptions; Mel’s world must ‘ave only ‘ad a few of the other species livin’ on it. “This one has Systemic colors!”
I pulled a comic off the top of the pile and opened it. Accordin’ to this character’s backstory, he’d been sent up in a rocket to avoid his planet bein’ destroyed and crash-landed on another world, where he was adopted and raised not knowin’ where he’d come from.
I tossed that book to the side and instead picked up one with the bat-man Mel liked, hopin’ no one noticed the shudder that’d gone through me when I thought of my own, very similar experience.
“This book probably woulda worked a bit better if he were an actual Drachenehul,” I muttered.
Huntress
Sniper picked up a comic and read the first few pages before throwing it back on the pile and grabbing another.
Curious, I grabbed the same one. The reason for that immediately became clear. This story was a bit too close to his own for his comfort, presumably.
I can’t say I blamed him. This character in the comic grew up to become a symbol of heroism, a powerful being using his abilities to benefit his kind…..almost the exact opposite of the real, living being standing before me. I’d feel strange about having to read about a fatherless half-breed and her twin brother doing heroic things, too, rather than…all the things we actually did.
Actually, if I found a comic about that, I’d just become convinced the comic writers were somehow stalking us.

Lucille
Lucy stared at everything. Mel’s home didn’t look anything like hers, but most of the objects had some familiarity to them. They looked almost normal but made with weird shapes, colors, or with parts Lucy didn’t recognize. The television didn’t even look like a television – it was just a black square. State-of-the-art.
It was like standing inside a cartoon of the future. Maybe Mel’s parents were richer than Lucy had thought.
She stared at the limp piece of cheese in her hand. After taking a bite, she decided it wasn’t so bad. It was sort of stringy – like melted strands of cheese, except not melty at all. She knelt down next to Mel, chewing thoughtfully. “I’ve thought about… reading comics before. But I haven’t. Except the ones in Da’s paper.”

Gabriel
Gabriel dearly wished to be able to read well. The pictures looked beautiful to him, and he wanted to know what they said. But he couldn’t admit to the young girls that he couldn’t read. He was supposed to be their protector, yet his education was worse than theirs. To him, such an admission was one of the rare things his pride wouldn’t allow at that time.
Instead, he took to looking around at the strange furniture.

Aaaaah, I can’t believe how long I disappeared for! I got distracted with blender, and ignored this, but I want to come back! I’m posting this so now I have to do it or I’ll embarrass myself :p

I’m currently working on a character model, and I’m almost done with the body. I just have to finish the feet. I’ve made a couple other things but that’s the main project I’ve been doing.

Hopefully kp won’t eat the links lol. idk if you’ve done anything with armatures/rigging but you could probably do some stuff with the models at least. I’m still a beginner so the rigs aren’t very good, but I tried at least.

I wondered if she knew that this was just an illusion, that her mom and dad probably weren’t here.
Or was it?
I fingered the pages of the comic book I held. When we went through the next door would it disappear? Would it stay with me throughout the labyrinth? Would it appear when we went home?
If we went home?
Soldier
“You can borrow some of mine if you want!” Mel shoved the comics toward Lucy. I decided the statement went for all of us and held the one I was reading tightly. “Mine now.” I growled when either of my friends got close.
Sniper snickered. “You’re holdin’ it upside down, mate.”
“I am?” I looked at it again and flipped it over. “Hmmm.”
Well, it suddenly made sense why everyone had been fighting on the ceiling in the pictures.
I don’t think Huntress remembers how to get out lol. Soldier doesn’t even care. Sniper is too busy reading the comics and being confused at them to think about that right now.

I want to animate with it eventually! I probably won’t get to that for a bit though.
