That’s a great name for your duck. 😆 Also, him being fire proof is definitely a bonus. Lol!
One of my characters has a fire-breathing cat named Fire Face. But he isn’t fireproof on the outside… so he sometimes catches himself on fire… very unfortunate for him.
And yeah! That’d be good way to explain steampunk.

March 7, 2024 at 10:41 am #177429I haven’t read a lot of contemporary. What’s your WIP about?
I have too many WIPs. The main ones right now are a dystopian with most of the characters, but no plot yet unfortunately, a fantasy with ducks who are under the rule of humans, and are trying to overthrow them because the humans eat them, (most of the humans, some are on the duck’s side), a spy-fi in which the MC, who has no name yet, shouts “BANANA!” at the airport because she was bored, and this turns out to be a code word, and she gets roped into trying to save the United States from an evil cabbage worshipping cult. Also, I have way too many romances, and a short story about a duck who wants to see the world.
My favorite character I’ve written is Queen Natalie Mallard. She is the main character of the duck fantasy. She is very extroverted, and loves having parties. Additionally she loves adventures, and hates being dignified. She is excitable, weird, impulsive, friendly, dramatic, and loves collecting random stuff. Her favorite colors are red and orange. I’ve had her as a character in some form since I was 7, though she has changed a lot since then. She was my first character that I just made up, and was not based on one of my rubber ducks.
If I could visit anywhere in the world it would be either the largest rubber duck store in the world in Massachusetts, Canada in winter, because Indiana has a frustrating lack of snow, or Washington DC, because I want to see all the museums and monuments and tour the White House. I love all things presidential. (Harry Truman met his wife Bess in Sunday school. They were 5).
My favorite foods are gnocchi and pancakes. My least favorite food is meatball stroganoff. There are no words to describe how much I abhor it. I like meatballs, but not when they are desecrated by mushrooms.

March 7, 2024 at 12:01 pm #177436(I have a sister named Abigail :P)
I know a lot of other Abigails. It seems to be a rather common name. 🙂
Pink is amazing! I don’t know if I’ve ever had ramen.
Who do you think would win in a duck vs. chicken duel, to the roast?
It would probably depend on the species. If you take an ordinary mallard, and a typical domestic chicken, then the duck would probably win. Chickens don’t fly very well, and the duck could dive bomb the chicken.

I haven’t read a lot of contemporary. What’s your WIP about?
Ok, so the contemporary one I was talking about I don’t quite have a plot for yet, lol. I know a lot about the characters, but not the story. I think it’s going to either be a mystery intertwined with slice of life, or just a slice of life story dealing with the ups and downs of a normal family.
The other one is dystopian and it’s about two families (a member from each which are my MCs) who start looking for “the cure” after their president who’s trapped them in the Orb dies. It turns out to be a much bigger deal than they thought once they escape the Orb and learn more about the leader outside of the Orb. And it seems that this cure is more important now than ever. So they end up searching for the cure while being fugitives of the government, lol. It’s a little more complex than that, but that’s the main idea. It’s a trilogy.

Oh my goodness, those sound like so much fun!! I love it!
I can second the having way to many romances. Except they’re all within my WIPs. I’m not sure I could write a whole romance novel. XD

I love her!! If she were a human, she’d be such a fun friend to have irl. 😜

Cool!! All those places sound awesome!
Oh yes, frustrating lack of snow. *sigh* I live in Ohio and this winter we barely got any snow. 😭 Though I’m not surprised. Ohio weather has a mind of its own and doesn’t like to stay within the norm. XD

Funnn!
Although I’ve never eaten it, I can see how that could be gross, lol.
Sorry if I sound like I’ve been living under a rock, but what does XD mean?
Oh no, don’t worry about it. (: I’ve had other friends as the same question. It’s just a sideways laughing face. Like this emoji: 😆

March 7, 2024 at 1:14 pm #177442I like thinking about characters to music too! Mine are usually dancing though. 2 of my sisters and I used to have a fictional newspaper, but alas, it is no longer in print.
I have several hundred characters. It’s hard to keep track of them sometimes.
A song that would remind me of last year would be Minnie the Moocher, sung by the Blues Brothers. My siblings discovered it over vacation, and we listened to it over and over and sung along on the Heidi Heidi Hos.
I would create characters first. I have a lot of random characters with no world.
See you around!

I get that. That’s most of my wips.

That sounds really interesting! So, the Orb is like a giant bubble they are trapped in?
Oh yes, frustrating lack of snow. *sigh* I live in Ohio and this winter we barely got any snow. 😭 Though I’m not surprised. Ohio weather has a mind of its own and doesn’t like to stay within the norm. XD
My grandparents live in Ohio. They have an enormous hill in their backyard, so whenever we visit in winter, we start praying for snow about a month in advance! It worked this year! At my co-op, I’m the only one in my class who loves snow. My tutor always asks for prayer requests in the morning, and between November 1st and Palm Sunday, I always say about 3 feet of snow, and the other kids all look at me and say NO. We got a couple decent snows this year, but never more than 5 inches. Barely enough for sledding.
Oh no, don’t worry about it. (: I’ve had other friends as the same question. It’s just a sideways laughing face. Like this emoji: 😆

March 7, 2024 at 5:48 pm #177460Hello! Oh YES. SHINY THINGS. I love shiny things!!!
Your WIPs sound amazing. I would totally read them. What is Queen Natalie queen of?
Thanks! Natalie is queen of an island inhabited mostly by ducks, which needs a name. (I named it Angel Island when I was about 9, but that had nothing to do with the world or the plot, I just thought it was cool.) It might be a continent, I’m not sure. There are some geese too, but they are outcasts from society. There was a huge scandal decades ago, before the First Human War, when crown princess Eudora ran off with a goose. Her family disowned her, and ducks gossiped about it for months! Despite this, she and the goose were very happy together, and had many duck/goose babies. Totally random piece of duck history. Anyway, she eventually marries Robert, (Bob), and they rule together for many years.

March 7, 2024 at 6:17 pm #177461Aghhh my post was eaten… how unfortunate. Now I’ll have to type everything out again. Sigh.
I’m Janessa, aka Trailblazer, because I love hiking, especially in the mountains. I write mostly historical fiction, contemporary, some mystery, and some journalism. I was also homeschooled, and technically I’m a PK, although my dad’s role is missions pastor, so he’s doing more organizational work and keeping contact with missionaries, instead of preaching.
I can’t say I’ve written people I don’t like into my novels, but I’ve definitely written interesting strangers… like the one guy my family met on a hike who kept talking and talking and talking about how he made his own hiking stick and how his photography got into some magazine and I don’t even remember what all else lol. He stood out enough to make it into one of my stories!
I was reading over your list of favorite books, and the Little House series was a huge favorite of mine as a child! I had a bonnet and everything… and it’s still one of my favorite historical eras to write in. Also, fun fact, my family is very, very, very distantly related to the mother in Cheaper by the Dozen. And I also went through a presidential phase back in middle school, but I’m a little rusty on my presidents now lol. I had a whole folder of papers listing their families and fun facts and stuff about them.
Anyway… now to go save this whole post in case Wyoh eats it again. (Wyoh is the KP ghost whom we blame for everything that goes wrong… she’s been very active lately)

March 7, 2024 at 7:18 pm #177462Greetings your Duckiness!
I’m the Arcane Axiom. I love math, searching for divine fundamental truth, and exploring that in my writing. I read/write sci-fi/fantasy, and I’m currently working on a universe with my sister called the Sceptrum.
Questions!
Do you lean towards hard or soft worldbuilding? (I heard your into Sanderson, so I’ll assume you know what that means:)
What is one of your favorite concepts you’ve seen displayed in writing?
What is one of your favorite concepts you’ve come up yourself?
What are your current projects about?
And last but not least:
What would you do if your Ducky subjects were all ub-duck-ted? Would you perhaps pay a duck bill for ransom?
He is perfect in Justice, yet He is perfect in Mercy, even when we fail Him. For this, He is good.
