Rosey Mucklestone replied to the topic Morally Perfect Characters in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 2 months ago
I honestly can’t think of any perfectly perfect characters. But there are the morally perfect ones. Sometimes they just aren’t the main character, though and you’re seeing the story through the eyes of another character. The morally perfect characters usually have some other fault or not everyone likes them.
Like Horatio Horblower is awesome, but…[Read more] -

First of all, this reminds me a LOT of my first writings. You’ve got a great base layer sort of thing going here, but it’s sort of bare-bones. It needs some additions. One thing I’m noticing in your writing is a general avoidance of the word “said”. It took me forever to figure out that that word was not the mark of an uncreative writer. If you…[Read more]

@Mark
Definitely see what you’re saying. Descriptions about that sort of stuff should probably get in there, just to get a clearer image of the time period (as I’m *cough* kind of imagining it).

I do think I’ll be keeping Quinn. He was Quinn or Quinlan for a long time when I was just coming up with the concept, so ditching it now would be…[Read more] -

Thanks, Daeus! The advice about making readers feel like they were reading an ancient, fragile volume really got me thinking especially. 😉 I’ll try and come up with more ways to make it seem older.

Okay, yeah… sounds like Quinn. 🙂 And I was thinking of around 30, age wise, so good guess! 😉
I actually had to change his character a bit from my 1st write of this piece. He was a little showy-sounding at first and it was making me wince. But, after changing it he doesn’t seem as flat now. So obviously that helped. And hey, yeah. Knocking out…[Read more] -

First, let me say I really like Captain Quinn. I mean, really like him. Eamon has too many teeth. Finnian is a little more nervous than I think he wants to be.
Aaaahh! *hugs you* You make me so happy. XD Eamon has too many teeth… I love it. I approve of all those opinions. 🙂 May I ask what exactly you like specifically about Quinn? Maybe…[Read more]

The genre for this little tidbit is a rather confusing, so I’ll explain that first.
So, this is set after the tower of babel dispersion. Everyone is spreading out over the world at this point, and the main conflict is between the idol worshipers and those who follow “Noah’s God”.
The post-flood world is mainly unexplored off the Eurasian…[Read more] -

Hmm… interesting.
Oh, no. I’m not mad about plot bunnies. I like them, though sometimes I’m too busy to pay attention to them. Plot bunnies are nice, in the right circumstances. XD -

Oh, yes. Ehud, definitely. 🙂 He’s so funny and awesome. Yeah, that was when I figured it out too. But I thought that something was fishy with her for a while. I was on the same page with David on the unfounded suspicion.
The Peleg Chronicles are fiction set after the tower of babel dispersion. Very biblical and christian and TOTALLY…[Read more] -

It is, but I don’t think everyone is going to have that thought upon reading “Amish vampire kittens in space”. That would be awesome if they did though… 😛 -

Well, if by some amazing chance you could take a vampire story and make it this really convicting, godly story… Congratulations. But it just seems like the way of getting the message across would be a little too confusing. No matter how great one book is, the association zombies and vampires have with evil thingamajigers in general seriously…[Read more]

We can argue all day about whether vampires and zombies are okay to use or not and all those technicalities. but as Christians, shouldn’t there be other, better things we could be writing about?

Well written, definitely. I agree that it’s dark. Mostly the details John was going into, but I suppose it might have been necessary to show how he’s changed and all. That little bit at the end was my favorite part, though it loosed a cage of plot bunnies in my imagination. 😛
