If you like historical fiction, I started a topic where I’ve been posting sections of one of my WIPs. Feel free to check it out!

Welcome! I’m Janessa, known around here as Trailblazer! I write primarily contemporary fiction/historical fiction, but I’ve done mystery, attempted fantasy (and realized I don’t have the imagination for that lol), and dipped my toes in journalism. Aside from writing, I like photography, hiking, mountains, or a combination of all three.…[Read more]

Aw, that’s especially tough if he’s so young he can’t even understand it very well! My brother gets irritable when his blood sugars are high, too, but he’s learned how to manage anger better now, so it usually comes across as grumpiness. I usually just get more tired than usual if my blood sugar is high.
I can also see how it would…[Read more]

Lol our character list has changed a lot! I’m too tired right now to come up with any good ideas, but I’ll see if I get any brainstorming done tomorrow.

That’s good you guys caught it early. I’m sure it’s been nice to have a little time to mentally adjust and learn about how to manage it. It can be a pretty big lifestyle change, especially if you’re unprepared. My brother has type one as well- he was diagnosed when he was eight, I was ten. He had been having a lot of other issues…[Read more]

Exactly! I’m always great at coming up with an overarching plot, but when it comes down to smaller plot twists and conflicts along the way, that’s where I struggle, and often where my stories stall.
Which characters are left in the story at this point?

I’m a type one diabetic, too! Was your brother just recently diagnosed?

I’m a little late to the party, but there’s a few things I’d like to add.
First, and least important, my younger brother will eat butter by itself. He’ll literally collect those little butter packets and pop them in his mouth.
Anyway, now that I’ve…[Read more]

Trailblazer replied to the topic Do your characters tend to be more extraverted or introverted? in the forum Topic of the Week 1 year, 1 month ago
I feel like the majority of my characters are introverts, mainly because I’m more introverted. I’ve tried to create extroverted characters to add balance, but I’ve found it difficult because I don’t relate. I would say not all my characters are extreme introverts; I’ve come out of my shell more in the past couple years, so my…[Read more]

A week later, Albert left for Little Springs. He never said goodbye to me, and I wished I could apologize for what I’d said. But I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.
The day after he left, I was in the barn milking our cow, Molly. I heard footsteps enter the barn, and turned to see Abe app…[Read more]

Trailblazer replied to the topic Short Short Story Prompt War! in the forum General Writing Discussions 1 year, 1 month ago
I haven’t decided yet if I’ll join this prompt or not. It depends on whether I can come up with an idea or have the time to do it. I have a lot going on with Christmas coming up!

@rae Ok. I just quickly gave it a name. It’s historical fiction set in the 1800s.
A Father’s Wish
Hudson Thurman shoved his hands into his coat pockets and kicked at a dead leaf skittering across the cobblestones in his path. Another day of studies done; another day passed in boredom. Spending his days in the courtroom and learning law left him…[Read more]

Oops… I did write a short story for the first prompt and then totally forgot I had to post it lol. It doesn’t really matter… I don’t have a title for it anyhow.
