SeekJustice replied to the topic What do you believe is one of the most important elements of a good story? in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years ago
For me it’s character and settings. The character bit is pretty obvious I think, I get invested in the characters and they’re the ones that make me really enjoy the story. But next to that, I really love settings and worlds! It’s an amazing feeling reading a book that really delves into the worldbuilding, whether that be fantasy,…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic Who Do You Write Like? in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years ago
I’m a bit late to the party, but I analysed three pieces altogether, randomly picked from my current WIP and my last WIP. For the two pieces from my current WIP, I got James Joyce (who I’ve never read) and Stephen King (who I’ve also never read, but I’ve seen enough snippets of his to say, yeah fair I guess). and then the snippet from the older…[Read more]

The Prestige is an awesome movie! I really enjoyed it.Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban! It’s such a well made movie and I absolutely loved the book as well. But the movie, which I watched about six weeks ago, broke my eighteen month writers block and I started writing a…[Read more]

@alia It’s setting the chapter/book up to dramatic and mysterious, so I think as long as you follow through on the promise very quickly, it’s all good!

SeekJustice replied to the topic What's the biggest mistake you made when you first started writing? in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years ago
First of all, I completely agree about MacGuffins. They’re not bad, after all, I would argue that LOTR is a reverse-MacGuffin-quest-thing, but they’re often lazy.
Secondly! My worst mistake? I don’t know exactly, but a lot of my early stories and novels suffered from far too many main characters and subplots connected to those…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic What is your biggest struggle as a writer? (Long rants welcome) in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years, 1 month ago
Can I just say that I absolutely love the name Tora! It’s actually my dog’s name and I think it’s so cool. Sorry, just had to get that in there 😀 😀 😀
I honestly think my biggest struggle with writing is balancing it with the rest of my life. I have a very all-or-nothing personality and I can go for months without…[Read more]

This looks like so much fun, unfortunately I’ve temporarily misplaced the USB with my first novel on it. I’m actually quite proud of my first novel, cringey and cliche though it may be. I’ll look for my USB and see if I can find it though!

SeekJustice replied to the topic What are some interesting quirks you have given your characters? in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years, 1 month ago
I have a sort of recurring quirk that in any book where its appropriate (ie, historically or culturally accurate) I have a character that drinks black coffee. I know absolutely no one who drinks black coffee in real life, but I just noticed one day that I did it heaps and now it’s an inside joke for me.
Also a have a lot of…[Read more]

Hey, so I wanted to kickstart the conversation here again, so….where did the first spark of inspiration for your story come from?
Just tagging a few people who’ve already commented, but anyone is more than welcome to join in!

Ah fair. Thanks for letting me know. I’m glad you guys are being willing to stand up and make your convictions known. I think that’s something we as younger Christians don’t really do as much and it makes me happy to know that you guys are still willing to go against the flow 🙂

Hey, just wanted to ask what’s the thing with dropping NaNoWriMo at the moment? I’m not really active on there through most of the year so if anything wild went down, I definitely haven’t heard of it???

SeekJustice replied to the topic What was the very last scene you wrote? How did it go? in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years, 1 month ago
The last scene I completed I wrote last night while I was watching Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. the movie just gave me a burst of inspiration and I wrote a whole scene of a new novel in about 30 minutes.
It was a prologue and it involved the main character finding an evil something in the forest and it introduces all t…[Read more]

Of course! I know all about Kindle Direct Publishing, I just can be very thick and didn’t realise that’s what KDP stood for 😛
I know, the quotes are really bugging me too.
Haha, no worries! I like talking about my books. My main characters are called Mere and Roe and they are based on Jeanne Baret and William…[Read more]

I’m loving all this publishing chatter. Can I ask what KDP is? I’ve been tossing up whether to pursue the self-publishing or trad publishing route and I really haven’t decided yet, so I’m keen to hear about more options.
Also, I would say, I (and a bunch of other trad published authors) wouldn’t recommend going with a…[Read more]

@lewilliams I love your blurb, especially the structure of it. Very nice. I also feel sorry for all of them, especially Arvi, poor boy!
And oh my goodness, A Beginner’s Guide to Villainy sounds exactly like my cup of tea. Also 100% realistic. I know a lot of tertiary students who would become villains just to get their scores up a little. And b…[Read more]
