You know you’re a writer when there’s so much going on in you head that you randomly blank on the most basic words. For example, last night I couldn’t remember the word “reply.” 😛

@jenwriter17 I’ve never been part of a critique group, so I don’t have any advice, but I’d be interested in joining if you’ve got room for me. 🙂

@seekjustice Thanks. 🙂 I’ll be thinking about joining SE. I think the discussions there would probably be useful. In fact, I was just reading one about a question I had recently. Did you see the topic about whether a villain is necessary? I have a couple stories which don’t contain a specific villain, but only an antagonistic situation, or…[Read more]

@seekjustice Thinking back, though, I think I’ve managed to have only quite short and reasonable discussions about magic on KP, so I might be able to get along. I don’t remember getting into any really long serious discussions on the forums. All the long discussions I can remember were rants and jokes about things most of us agreed on.

@seekjustice Yeah, I was just on Story Embers reading some of the threads. It looks like a lot of fun. And I guess it isn’t really all that much bigger than KP used to be. At least it doesn’t seem so.
The biggest problem other than the actual size of the place is the fact that most of the people there seem to be into fantasy and magic, wh…[Read more]

@seekjustice That is quite interesting. I think I can count on one hand the number of males I have conversed with on KP. Let’s see…Daeus, Sam, Ben, Leumeister…yup! That’s all I can think of. Oh, and Josiah, of course. But that’s still on only one hand! 😛
Oh really? I would be very interested in reading a story of yours that didn’…[Read more]

@seekjustice Hahahaha!! That is hilarious. 😛 And nearly inconceivable. How could it be possible that you wrote an entire story in which no one died??
That reminds me of how my first couple of fifteen-page “books” were in the fantasy genre complete with a giant, (who had some sort of flying saucer on his head on which a city of people li…[Read more]

@seekjustice *pats your head awkwardly* 😛
@rochellaine HIS-FIC!! *overly enthusiastic high five*
Anyway, I’m off. Happy writing, guys! -

@seekjustice Oh, whoops. I meant twentieth century fiction, not just stuff from 1900-1909. 😛 But I guess I am mostly talking about stuff from about 1900-1950.
Haha, I would hope not. 😀 So Zac is alive. You know what? I’m still excited about that.

@daughteroftheking I wouldn’t necessarily use the word “realistic” in describing them. I’d probably say “sensationalistic” and “melodramatic.” You didn’t miss much. 😛
There is no better genre than his-fic, though. None.
@seekjustice I agree, they were both wrong about a lot of things.
I’ve heard/read many references to Elsie Dinsmore in 19…[Read more]

@seekjustice Haha! I would be the same, except my story concepts are usually so ridiculous, they seem best as kid’s books.

@rochelaine Hey there! I’ve never read those books, but I don’t think I would have liked them. I wasn’t big on realistic books and didn’t really get into h…[Read more]

@seekjustice Frankly, I would be extremely wary of reading any books you wrote to little kids. 😉

@seekjustice Thankfully my mom didn’t waste her money on the full set. 😛
The one thing I disagree with about the article is the part where it says Elsie has no right to think for herself against her father. I do think eight-year-olds are often mature enough to read the Bible for themselves and come to their own conclusions, and I like what her…[Read more]

@seekjustice Ugg, that sounds quite tedious. Since my target audience is kids/ middle grade, I hope I’ll never have to get too intense. *inconspicuously doesn’t mention all the potentially fighty-er plot bunnies circling my brain*

@seekjustice I have read the first three Elsie Dinsmore books. I read the first two when I was very young and absolutely adored them. And I reread them, tears streaming down my face every time. When I came back to them as I grew older and when I read the third book I realized they weren’t what I had remembered.
This article actually sums up a…[Read more]
