Rolena Hatfield replied to the topic It Began Long Ago… in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 1 month ago
I was about 9 when I wrote my first story that was literally one page long. I know I still have it somewhere around here… I could never bear to throw any of my stories away, no matter how awful they were 🙂
Anyway, my first story started out with this line “A mother loon flew over a shimmering moon lit lake…” and it goes on to tell about a…[Read more] -

Rolena Hatfield replied to the topic Why do you write? in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 1 month ago
Because words are a powerful tool that can be used for God’s glory.
annnddddd…. because so many words and ideas well up inside of me that they have to spill out in some way or another and I happen to prefer that they spill out on a page even though it can tend to get messy at times. 🙂

You know you’re a writer when your laptop consists of an overloaded Microsoft Word, movie soundtracks and a weathered keyboard.

Well… I’ve written some nonprofessional play scripts, 🙂 a couple monologues, and even though we haven’t written them down, my siblings and I have created a few screen plays!

Hi Ivy! Super glad you’re apart of the forum!
Wow, Never Alone sounds wonderful! Can’t wait for it to be published… (I’ll add it to my, “books to be read”list 🙂
When you’re not reading or writing, how do you enjoy spending you’re free time?

Hi Alia!
Glad to have you on the forum! Keep up the writing! Sometimes it seems like the book will never be finished, but then one day, even sometimes a few years down the road, you find yourself writing The End. It’s one of the greatest feelings in the whole author world!

Whoa! Ya’ll have added some awesome words to my vocabulary! I like them all, even the depressing and intellectually cruel ones. 🙂 Some of my favorite ones are more of the beautiful words that just sound, well beautiful… scrumptious, delicious, majestic, delightful. Ooo and the words that are something beautiful like moon and meadow and stream…[Read more]

Okay ya’ll are writers, so I’m sure I’m not the only one who absolutely loves words!
It makes me giggle with glee when I learn a new word that’s hard to pronounce and can replace an every day word I use making the thing sound ten times are important as it probably is.
So what are some of your favorite words? And I’m also curious to know if anyone…[Read more]

Rolena Hatfield replied to the topic Themescape in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 2 months ago
Very true Kate. We often overlook the everyday little things that are SO important for us to be faithful in. Like honoring our parents, volunteering for a menial task, or giving a stranger a smile… 🙂 That’s a great concept that I’d love to see in books!
I’d also love to see being utterly satisfied in the Lord as a main theme. Or gratefulness.…[Read more] -

Third party joining here!
I loved, loved, LOVED reading through this topic discussion, very intriguing and some of your thoughts were fantastic! I agree that I particularly like a bitter-sweet ending, but as Daeus said, only preferably if the sweet outweighs the bitter. So that when I set a book down, firstly I sigh and then I smile, because the…[Read more]

If you’re interested in another blog/site building option, I really like Wix. (www.wix.com) They have a lot to offer for free (of course there is the option to upgrade for a price, but I never have) . They have so many options I haven’t had time to figure out how to use all the available resources. I do know that they’re really into allowing…[Read more]

@ Ezra – Your post holds some very good points which helped me sort out my own thoughts, so thank you for that.
Also thanks for correcting that sentence So is it right to say that evil comes from two different sources?
Using the word sources in that sentence wasn’t the word to use cause I can see how it gives wrong meaning. (My typing fingers…[Read more] -

Thanks Kate for pointing out that the discussion is about whether or not they should be used in books not weather of not they’re evil(as we all seem to agree on that point!) I had picked up on that as I read through previous posts, but forgot about it as I was writing out the whirlwind of thoughts that’s been swirling in my mind and so it may have…[Read more]
