@aislinn-mollisong If you haven’t realized it, I love recommending books, especially these, since I hardly ever find anyone who has read them. 😀

@aislinn-mollisong What genres are your favorites? There are some girls’ adventure books, boys’ adventure books, (usually more exciting than the girls books), WWI stories, Westerns, romances, “just living” stories where the characters have to face normal difficulties in everyday lives – sort of like G.L.Hill, mysteries, sci-fi(all the new…[Read more]

@aislinn-mollisong Well, if you have a kindle, you can get hundreds of books from that period that are now out of print and in public domain – and therefore, free.
There are a lot of really great books written back then, because even when the authors weren’t firm Christians like Grace Livingston Hill, there was the common morality of society back…[Read more]

@aislinn-mollisong You read Grace Livingston Hill?!! She’s one of the only two book authors I have listed in the favorites section of my profile! All her books are wonderful! Yes, I’ve read that one. I really like books written in in the 1910s-1930s. Have you read any other authors from that period?

@skredder Hi!
@aislinn-mollisong Yes, it’s the one with the snake. 😀 But the snake isn’t really part of the plot, just part of the story. I’m trying to make it like the old westerns except set in modern times. It’s about a girl who goes out west to visit her uncle and aunt. They actually live in the city, but she meets some young peop…[Read more]

@aislinn-mollisong I am just at that place in my western, too! It’s awful. Right now I’m doing a little bit of outlining, and I might just skip the hard part and write the next part, then come back to it later.

Hey! @aislinn-mollisong I’m working on my western, and chatting with @clairec about how – contrary to what most people here think – fantasy isn’t the only genre out there. 😀
What are you doing?

Rochellaine replied to the topic Writer's Corner #13 in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 8 months ago
@clairec Okayyy, that sounds interesting. I’m a real stickler for historical accuracy, but not so much historical events as culture. I will freak out if someone wears a 1947 dress in 1943, or talks about an actress whose first movie was released six months later than the time in which the book was set, but if you want to add a few historical e…[Read more]

@clairec Yes! Everyone is so into fantasy now it seems all other genres are forgotten for young people!
I have read a little fantasy. I liked the Chuck Black Kingdom and Knights series okay a couple of years ago, and I love the Frank Peretti Cooper Kids series (which is only semi-fantasy). Other than that, though I mostly read histori…[Read more]

@dekreel Yeah, I have a feeling I would be a sweet, well-meaning character who unintentionally ruins everyone’s plans because I would deal with things in a real-world way. 😀 That would be very annoying for fantasy believers, and could really mess up the cliched plot for them. *snickers*
I don’t know…if you act enough like a person I might f…[Read more]

@dekreel Have you noticed how not-into fantasy I am? I think if I was in a KPA I would probably be the person who instead of wanting to go on the quest would try to call the police. Or if someone had a cute imaginary creature for a pet I would say something like “That’s not a real animal” and poof! the creature would disappear because I di…[Read more]

@dekreel *Slowly peeks out from under eyelashes* Am I going to be in the story?
I don’t really care one way or another if I’m in it, so don’t put me in if you weren’t planning to. 😀 I just want to make sure I’m not some weird creature, because I have noticed you are prone to doing that, and I don’t think I would like it… 🙂

@dekreel A vague idea is better than nothing! 😀
I’m working on my western again. Kind of a little outlining, which I don’t normally do fully, but I’m a little confused as to how the story is going to work out, so I’m trying to give myself at least a plot to work with…

@notawriter That should be the new KaPeeFer motto: “Just a tag away!” 😀
Okay, conflicting goals: I think I could do different, but parallel goals, but not conflicting goals. I think if they had conflicting goals there is no reason they should even consider being together. If I met a guy who was a missionary or a doctor I would immediately th…[Read more]

@that_writer_girl_99 Haha, Good, because I just realized I binge-read quite often. I’ll take an old series of 3-10 books off the shelf and lie down and re-read them till 3:00 am. 😀
So if it’s a thing…other people do that too?

@sam-kowal Oh, it’s not a set rule. Tell Stan he should revive himself, because I do believe in dragons.
I prefer realism to fantasy, but I did enjoy Chuck Black’s Kingdom and Knights series, as well as Frank Peretti’s Cooper Kids books. Dystopian isn’t really my thing, either. For future imaginings I like Star Trek where Earth is fine, almost…[Read more]

@sam-kowal My automatic response to “would you read it?” was no, when I saw that it was fantasy. 😀 But as I read the synopsis I felt drawn into the idea, and it does sound really interesting. So, would I pick up the book from a shelf? Probably not, because I don’t to fantasy. But would someone who was into fantasy like it? I’m sure, yes.…[Read more]
