Ah. That makes sense. We have turkey and ham for both, so we have dressing at both.

So, does your family have dressing or stuffing (or neither)?
We usually have cornbread dressing, although we have family up north who have stuffing, and I like both. The debates over which is better are fun to listen to.

We also have a bonfire and fireworks on Christmas Eve. It’s great fun.

Really? My family usually has a more traditional Christmas dinner with cornbread dressing, potatoes, turkey, ect. But we did barbeque one year with extended family, and enchiladas another.
I’m born and raised Texan, and yeah. Tamales especially are definitely a holiday food here. Although that doesn’t mean we don’t eat them year round,…[Read more]

Random side note because I did recently find this out. Easter is mentioned in the KJV Bible (Acts 12:4), but it was an incorrect/imperfect translation. Most other translations use Passover.
We also have a new tradition where we eat a different cuisine for dinner on the three(?) nights leading up to Christmas.
That’s awesome. A lot of…[Read more]

I do. I also have friends who do not. One family I know celebrate a Christian version of Hanukkah instead, which is essentially celebrating how Jesus brought light into the world. The other doesn’t observe anything that could be confused with Winter Solstice and Yule. For me, I agree with @power . The holiday is what you make it.

That’s perfect. Making up stories for things can be really handy though. I have a whole legend for a dress I’m making that has me as the younger daughter of a Holiness Methodist preacher in the woods of Texas who was heavily influenced by the Cane Ridge revival. We’re lower of the middle class, so my second best dress is a little…[Read more]

@liberty lol. I have 52 snowballs as of the last count.
*cackling*
@ellette-giselle Glad you liked it! This is probably the closest thing to a romance plot that I’ve written. (Instead of it being a small side plot.)
@stephie Since you apparently want to lay catch. *chases you*

OK. There won’t be as many more scenes from this story that I’ll share, but here you go. Its 95o words should render me free from all residual snowball debts I owe.

Depends on what you mean as rough, and the time period.
If you mean worn; mismatched/replaced buttons, fraying hems, taped glasses, scuffed but clean shoes, fraying laces.
If you mean hardworking: muddy shoes, rolled cuffs, denim, flannel, holes in pockets/knees, strapped gloves.
If you mean from the hood? Worn clothing, denim, T-…[Read more]

Nahim scene (which will probably end up in my book)
275 words
“Life for me has been…dark since they died.” Nahim turned his face away.
Master Canin wrapped his arm around Nahim’s shoulders like a father, pulling him close. “I know, Nahim. The war has taken away my daughter. It’s been years since I’ve seen her.”
