Daisy Torres replied to the topic Help! I'm stuck on themes… 🙁 in the forum Mission, Calling & Ethics 3 years, 4 months ago
@nova21 Hmm, experimenting with themes is fairly new to me actually XD I didn’t used to include them, I just told my story. Recently however, I’ve found myself trying to include themes of forgiveness, empathy, mental/physical healing from harmful events, and repairing broken relationships (especially when it comes to family). If I think of more…[Read more]

I think that a lot of themes are hidden. Some stories, such as, say, aesop’s fables, have themes and meanings that are very evident. In other stories, the themes can be harder to concretely put words to. Take LOTR. I would say that a huge theme in that story is heroism. The book doesn’t state “that’s what it means to be a hero!”, it just…[Read more]

@nova21 Personally, I don’t really think about themes, I just write, and then hope someone can tell me what the themes are, because I’m really bad at discerning what my themes are. Have you seen Story Embers’ latest article? I think that might help you. Let me send you the link (and hope that the forum doesn’t eat my…[Read more]

relia started the topic Anyone want character art? in the forum Art 3 years, 5 months ago
I’m trying to get back into doing art more regularly, so I was wondering if anyone wanted a character drawn? (I could also do landscapes or buildings, but I’m best at people. Also better at girls, but I could use some practice drawing guys as well.)
Just give me a description, (photo reference would be appreciated if you have any,) and I’d love…[Read more]

Hallo, friends!
So… I’m a little stuck. On one of my novels, I’ve hit the climax, where all the suspense, tension, and mystery finally comes together and brings the whole novel to a close. It’s the huge, ah-ha moment for the characters, and the satisfying yet tense moment for the reader. But the thing is, how do you properly execute the c…[Read more]

Madelyn replied to the topic Writing a series where the books aren't technically related…? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
That idea sounds awesome! I’ve seen unrelated books in a series done before successfully.
For example, The Knights of Arrethrae Series by Chuck Black is a collection of books that follow different knights pursuing the same cause. The characters don’t (with one exception) cross over into the other books, and the series is still…[Read more]

@nova21 I do like series set in the same world but aren’t necessarily connected. 👍🏽 But I think to achieve this successfully the world building has to be done really well and made interesting enough for the reader to stay in that world. In this kind of situation, I personally like it when the books are at least a little bit connected, even if it’s…[Read more]

@nova21 Oooo those ideas sound amazing!! Good luck!!!
Yes! I am working on a series like that too! Era of Shadows (which was actually the first book I published) is going to be part of a series like that full of old fairytale retellings XD
Your stories sound so cool!! I looove stories that have their own plots but continue in the same world! -

@nova21 Ooo thanks a bunch!! (But I totally understand if you don’t. The readers have to pay money to “buy” chapters, so it wouldn’t actually be free for you outside of the first three chapters haha. Thannk you thoughh <3)

I think I agree with most of the people here. I’ve read very few series like this, but when I do, I’m often sadly disappointed. I get attached to a character, and I don’t want to give him/her up! But if you do write this type of series, definitely connect them in some way. If you don’t want to make them a series, you don’t have to…[Read more]
