Today I read the first couple chapters of Spinning Siver by Niomi Novik. It’s an adult fantasy book that I’m pretty sure is a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin.
So far I’m enjoying it! The atmosphere is really nice, and every time I read it it’s like I’m being transported into a magical winter forest. Â Although I’m only a couple of chapters in, I can…[Read more]

@godlyfantasy12 I’ve gotten into writing crime recently, so they aren’t really actual mysteries, per se, as I reveal who the culprit is as one of the main characters. However, I think that this bit sounds really interesting! I think you should develop it!
Also, I’ve heard that for mysteries it’s good to have the solution first and then sprinkle…[Read more]

@godlyfantasy12 Thanks for sharing this! I have no clue what denomination I am, but I 100% agree with this. Thanks for being so outspoken!

@kathleenramm Great idea! Though be warned; my list will probably mostly consist of manga, with a classic book once in a while. Hopefully this might spark up my love for reading again, haha…
@gracie-j Ah, yes. I feel you. I may live up North, but being a second-gen immigrant, I’ve never really felt that strongly about the civil war. However, I…[Read more]

So as you’ve probably heard a million times by authors, is the importance of reading as a writer. But I’ve actually have learned way more about writing by talking about books I’ve read than actually reading the book. And besides, talking about books is probably one of a writer’s favorite things to do, even without all the benefits of improving…[Read more]

@nova21 I really out of touch with poetry right now, so I can’t really say much, but I liked it a lot!

Oof, yes. XD I know those characters far too well.  Have you ever read a book with a character that you had a sneaking suspicion was the author’s favorite character? I feel like the try-hard comic relief characters are often those characters, but since the author likes the character so much they’re oblivious to it. XD Not sure if you’ve c…[Read more]

@gracie-j I thought it was super sad ahh. Every time I flipped the page it just got worse and worse…but it was written really well and I enjoyed it a lot.
Merry Christmas to you as well!

@gracie-j I just wanted to let you know I finally finished Gone With the Wind.
I-I can’t think right now. I’ll sort my thoughts out tomorrow ahhh.

I think what you mentioned right there is the epitome of writing. Most likely all writers at one point or another write about situations we have no experience ever doing but write about it as if we did it just that morning. XD And it’s totally prevalent when writing banter between two characters wholly different from you. Their…[Read more]

@gracie-j Ahhh, gotcha. That makes some sense.
Hm. I personally love both the movies and the books. But, as always, the books are better. ;D
*nods* That also sounds like a pretty good approach. 🙂

Is it bad that I’ve never written romance in any form before? I love creating deep, meaningful, and complicated relationships, but never romance. Probably because I don’t read romance often, and I’m only seventeen so romance isn’t something I think about, like, ever. XD
But I can see how writing romance would be difficult.…[Read more]

@gracie-j I don’t remember which one I preferred, out of the two. I really need to reread them, lol. I think I read them… prior to keeping track of my reading, it looks like, so at least four years ago.

@kathleenramm Honestly, every scene I write is difficult once it starts to lag. So then I usually toss in a new character or yet another fight scene, or most of the time, both. But in general, uh, romantic scenes are probably the biggest struggle for me. Which is probably why there has been an extreme lack of romance in everything that I’ve…[Read more]

What was the most difficult scene for you to write and why?
I’m not sure if this scene was THE hardest I’ve ever written, but it was definitely a challenge. The scene was a rooftop fight scene that I wrote at the beginning of this year. It was the first time I’d written a fight scene on a rooftop (or any rooftop scene, for that matter) and their…[Read more] -

@seekjustice I wrote a post and then when I edited it it vanished. O-o
My mom was really careful when I was little about anything that featured daughters rebelling against their dads. She didn’t let me watch The Little Mermaid for the same reason (which I don’t mind; I’m not a fan of Ariel now that I have watched the movie, lol). Once I was a…[Read more]
