Oh. Why would you like to go to the fairie realm?
“I’m… curious. Who wouldn’t be? They’re very mysterious. And they visit our realm all the time. It’s not fair we don’t get to see theirs.”
How has your kingdom made alliances with the fairies before? Do you know the details of how that happened?
“I am mostly referring to legends and rumors. The details always change. They make deals and trades with individuals and families. That’s how people become fey-touched, of course. That is how my ancestor gained the power to see visions. The fairies reportedly have a queen. I don’t see why we can’t make an alliance, a sort of deal, with her.”
What is your family like?
“They’re… good. My father is a good king. He does his best. Lucian is… well, he is very smart. I believe he will make a good king one day as well.”
What does a normal day in your life look like?
“I have lessons in the mornings. History and foreign languages on Monday, science and music on Tuesday, fencing Saturday, etcetera. I like my history tutor the most because he lets me sleep in. My afternoons are usually free, so I will go do things with my friends or find some way to get out of the castle. Then dinner with my family and usually several guests.”
Do you like your royal responsibilities?
He straightens in his chair, eyes bright. “Yes. When I am able to perform them. I haven’t been sent on a diplomatic trip in over a year, but my visions have begun to prove more useful. I was able to discover the hideout of some bandits disrupting major trade routes just last week. They were difficult to catch since they had a few illusionists, but we snuffed them out. Father was pleased.”

Ah. Do you normally have manservants and guardians following you around? That must feel stifling.
“Yes. It is.”
Why do you enjoy hunting and fencing?
“I just find it fun. I enjoy being active and outside. The competition is exciting as well.”
Your mother sounds kind. Did you have nightmares because of your special gift? Or were your nightmares related to something else?
“I am still not entirely sure. They seem to be a jumbled mix of visions and normal dreams. I don’t usually remember them very well when I wake.”
What is something you have always wanted to do – a dream or a goal – that you haven’t done yet?
He pauses a while, thinking. “I am a rather good diplomat. I would like to make alliances with more of our neighboring kingdoms, and possibly even with the Fairie Queen, as elusive as she is. An alliance with the fair folk would benefit our kingdom greatly, as it has in the past. And… I would like to see and explore their realm.”

Don’t worry. It’s just a questionnaire that’s only for fun. I’ll leave this notepad here when I’m done and you can do whatever you want with it. Read it, show it to your brother, burn it. Does that sound alright to you? And, come on, you can’t say no to snacks.

How would you describe yourself in three words?
“Um… Adventurous? I enjoy hunting and similar activities. Then also Seer and Prince. My main duties.”
Who is your best friend?
“Beckett’s not bad. The son of Lord Fenwick in the west. I enjoy talking with him and he is a decent fencer. He helped me get rid of my most recent shadow of a manservant. I have had a couple weeks of freedom while my father looks for a replacement.” He smiles.
What do you think is your best quality?
“I am useful to my kingdom, and my visions carry on a legacy of protecting my people from possible threats and maintaining peace.”
What about your worst quality?
He seems uncomfortable and possibly a little confused here. “I suppose I could learn to be a bit more… That is, sometimes I miss or forget important details. It’s hard to keep track of. I need to get stronger in my abilities as a seer. But I will. In due time.”
What do you think of animals?
“I like them. They’re interesting. I have a good horse and a hawk. They can be confusing though. I don’t always know what they want. It would be much easier if they spoke.”
What were you like as a very young kid?
“Very quiet and weak. It’s embarrassing to admit, but I had constant night terrors, to the point where my mother would sometimes sleep in my room for several nights in a row. Thankfully, I outgrew it very quickly.”
