It was actually not Betsy. It was Corrie and Betsy’s Niece, Peter and Reuben’s brother, and it was Peter and Reuben who were under the table because someone had seen them with the Jews and informed on them. (At least, that’s what it say’s in Corrie’s auto biography.)
It doesn’t really change anything tho, and I can respect…[Read more]

“And then your brother found you?”
Noah, Alicia, and Darrien were sitting at the table, listening to Sabina and Adrian as they told what had happened. Asher, Eric, and Joseph were with them, watching the conversation in silence. Noah and Darrien were staring at Adrian in disbe…

I understand both your points. However, there are many instances in the Bible when God blessed or rewarded people after they told lies to save the lives of innocent people. Sabina brought up two such instances.
And, God has also told people to withhold truth/miss-lead. Like in 1 Samuel 16
The Lord said to Samuel,…[Read more]

@linus-smallprint oh, good to know I’m not alone then! It’s not discouraging at all, it’s just one of those thoughts you have when you’re trying to sleep but your brain won’t let you. Y’know.
And I’m glad you have an explanation ready for why this section feels rushed. Makes sense.

So, I think I can safely say which scenes you have added in and which ones were in the draft. I’ve run into this same problem several times. If my book is more then a year old when I do the re-writes and big edits, you can always tell what I wrote before and what is added. I think our style and skill develops the more we write,…[Read more]

Oh. You are not the first I’ve heard to say that, but I don’t mind that you don’t agree. Sabina does voice my own beliefs however, so I won’t be changing this.
I would be interested in your reasons behind why you don’t agree with her/my reasoning. Though keep in mind I won’t be changing this scene, so if you find it a waste of…[Read more]

This is one of the best ones yet!!
I’m curious, did you write this from scratch, or was it in the draft?
This was super well done, and I like everything about it. (though i did see a typo here and there.)
Very well done.

@linus-smallprint ooh interesting!!
Alan’s character development is showing through! It does seem a tiny bit sudden, but I don’t know cause I’ve never actually seen a person get saved and them follow their life immediately afterward. I was saved when I was really young and effectively don’t even remember it, so I can’t even use myself as an…[Read more]

Darrien lost his job the next morning.
The Governor decided that if the main part of the city was rebuilt, the work could stop. This left a group of neighborhoods to the east in terrible disarray, and it wasn’t long before only thieves and war refugees inhabited them.

Okay, well as long as it’s not bad I’ll keep it. But i will keep an eye on it. Thanks for pointing it out.
Ah. From what you said, I would expect you live on a prairie or in some other open area as well
lol. Yup. Though not so far that it was hard to visit people or have them over. That would be sad.

I’m trying to figure out exactly when they were hurt. I think for Joseph, it was when Asher grabbed his leg, and for Asher, it was when he tumbled into the cobblestones.
Yeah, you’ve got it. But honestly, think about it. Have you ever seen boys play some wild ball/tackle/wrestle/race game? Now put that game on a cobble-stone s…[Read more]

A day passed, and then another. Slowly, Joseph was beginning to come to terms with his grief. He was beginning to spend more time praying, asking God to help him. He knew he could never be like Aaron, but maybe God would at least help him triumph over the nightmares that stole his sleep…

Like I said, my mind was in a weird place. Specifically in the place of a reader snacking on some yogurt-covered pretzels.
Ew.
Honestly, I have always found those things rather nasty. They taste like artificial sweetener. Or at least the ones I’ve had always do.
