@kathleenramm One on my to-watch list would be My Beautiful Bride…the movies I watched I’m not sure of the names because I watched them with Chinese subs haha
I really love Ateez! They have great music and they’re all really sweet guys! Highly recommend.
@merieshenanigans I listen to Ateez, Oneus, A.C.E, WayV, BTS, Noir, Stray Kids, and Monsta…[Read more]

@merieshenanigans Haha, that’s fine. It seems like a lot of commitment to watch a show. There are several great Korean movies I’ve watched before, though.
I wouldn’t exactly call myself a ‘kpop stan’, as I only stan one group right now (it’s really hard for me to focus on more than one group at a time) but I like to listen to a lot of the songs,…[Read more]

@leon-Fleming that’s very good of you. Likewise, your apology is also accepted. Yes, some forms of poetry can be quite hideous.
Ha! Well if my arguing was of some use than I am glad. I also find it is easier to figure out your own thoughts on things if you write them down.
No, I am not on Story Embers.

@merieshenanigans Haha you’re currently living in a Chinese-speaking community so I think you have an advantage XD I tried learning German and French once, but I can’t spell German and I can’t pronounce French, so those might have to wait for a future time. I’ve heard that Korean is really easy, which makes it super appealing.
There are actually…[Read more]

@merieshenanigans No, unfortunately. I do want to go someday, though. I know Chinese quite well. I think something cool to do would be to learn all the Asian languages so I can blend in anywhere. Unrealistic, however.
Ooh, I do want to go to Korea as well one day. But for now I guess I’ll just watch Korean movies.
Ahaha at some point you’re…[Read more]

@Leon-Fleming upon further reflection, I realize I must apologize. I have been arguing for the sake of it and not because I have something constructive to say. And you are correct that I have been stating opinion as fact. You clearly have me beat on your knowledge of poetry and I really don’t have a leg to stand on so I concede to you. Yes, all…[Read more]

@merieshenanigans Ah, Beijing’s where my grandparents live! It’s one of my favorite places.
I’ve been meaning to learn Korean, but I think I’ll try to finish Japanese first. What’s Korea like?
Do you watch any anime?

Lin replied to the topic TOPIC OF THE WEEK – How do you think of story ideas? in the forum Start HERE 5 years, 10 months ago
@kathleenramm Ahaha I always wished that I could dream myself into another world (but my dreams aren’t usually vivid so-)
Not really anything in particular that I can remember. I essentially plagiarize everything.

@leon-fleming A third culture kid is basically what I am; we’re raised in a different cultures than what our parents were raised in. So a second-generation immigrant, basically.

@merieshenanigans Hello!!! Nice to meet you!
I, too, write novels by hand because I’m insane! Crazy how efficient it actually is.
My aunt, uncle, and cousins live in Shanghai, so I’ve been there more than once. It’s a cool place. (Not gonna lie I find myself missing China a lot these days…honestly very bad timing)
Have you always lived in…[Read more]

@Leon-Fleming well I said it probably wasn’t the correct definition. Ok so that clears things up a bit. Personally, I still wouldn’t class it as poetry but until I become president of some world wide literary organization something-or-other, there isn’t much I can do about it. XD
I really think that we are saying basically the same things, but…[Read more]

@kathleenramm Honestly most of things started out from this world I created when I was a kid. I just created it to escape to; there’s nothing special about it. So gradually as I got older I’d begun developing it and making characters and often if I was reading a book or watching a movie or listening to a song, I’d think, “Oh, it’d be cool if there…[Read more]

@Leon-Fleming ha! Well that’s true in a sense although I don’t often find occasion to talk about Truffala Trees or Sneeds or Rare Who Roast Beast. XD
When I say prose I am referring to anything classed as poetry without rhyme. Haiku’s, for example. I am sure I am probably giving things a broader coverage than they deserve but that’s how I…[Read more]

@Leon-Fleming lol ok, so I see it as cheating to simply make up words to rhyme with the one you are using. Find a real word or change the word you are rhyming with. At the same time, the very things I think he was a cheat for I also see as quite brilliant. If you can’t find a word, make one! Confusing, I know.
I can certainly see why you…[Read more]

@leon-fleming Is there a time paradox? Or are there parallel universes? Is there a main villain? Or is this mostly about people he meets? How old is he?
You mentioned benefactor…reminds me of Great Expectations.
At some point in the character arc…let’s see, you said he thinks too highly of himself…so at some point maybe he gets stuck in…[Read more]

@Leon-Fleming well calculus was created during a pandemic so…
Ah, because the literary snob in me says that prose is cheating in the same way that Dr. Seuse was equally cheating and a genius by making up words to rhyme with. In my mind, if it is labeled poetry it should rhyme and you should have had to suffer a bit to create it. 😜 Just kidding…[Read more]

@leon-fleming Gotcha. So, what area of ideas are you looking for? Plot? Character? Something else?
