I read the blurbs
Haha! That reminds me of a quiz I took a few days ago. It was one of those things that says “we’ll guess your education level by which books you’ve read.” You know what I mean? Well, anyway, I had possibly read two or three of the fifty or so books on the list, but I was able to answer something like 95 per…[Read more]

@seekjustice All the Christian Amish fiction? I thought you didn’t read romance. 😛
Ah, I see.
Actually, most of the people I know who wear head coverings aren’t Amish or Mennonite, though. Usually they wear them I think because they read the head covering passage and decided that was what they should do, just like my mom. So it’s not just fo…[Read more]

@seekjustice 😀
Even though we go to a Baptist church most of the circles we move in include very traditional reformed Calvanist(ic) type churches, so that might explain some of it. Another explanation could be that we live very near “Amish Country” which is what we call Lancaster Pennsylvania and areas surrounding it. Did you know of the l…[Read more]

@seekjustice Yes, that makes sense. 🙂 Here’s a funny story with a similar sort of idea:
I have an unmarried friend who wears headcoverings constantly, not just in church. We were talking about it one day, and how the Bible says a woman should wear a head covering to show that she is in submission to her husband, and we told her how we b…[Read more]

I think a lot of Western culture has lost the original meanings of many parts of both the New and Old testaments just because we have such a limited understanding of Eastern culture.
I completely agree!! Actually, we’ve had that problem a few times with some sermons where we just wanted to yell at the pastor, “we know you’re trying…[Read more]

@skredder Oh my word I’m so sorry! I think I figured out the problem, but then I started beta reading Seekjustice’s book (which has a deadline I’m trying super hard to meet). I really wanna finish it; but would it be okay if I finish reading Seekjustice’s then hop right to yours? (since there’s a deadline).

…so let’s see if I can do a really short post about the headcovering thing.
Quick (hopefully) answer is: We believe the headcovering referenced there is a literal headcovering, not the hair, and that the hair is used as a symbol, but an additional headcovering is what is expected by the chapter. From the context, we think that…[Read more]

@seekjustice Oh, to clarify, in the last post I said I don’t think God’s commandments change depending on the culture you live in. I do, however, know that they are often understood differently depending on the culture. I also believe that, as it says in Romans 14, what is a sin for some may not be a sin for others since even with a literal i…[Read more]

@seekjustice Ooh, not afraid of controversial subjects, are we? 😛
So, I don’t believe commandments change with cultures. I think you’re remembering that I said we understand some parts of the Bible in a different way because of the Middle Eastern background, but what I meant was that we understand some of the things in the Bible which are…[Read more]

@seekjustice Haha, so that’s why you listed him as a fantasy/allegory author. I’ve read about ten or twelve of his romance novels. 😛
But anyway, my mom had read them as a teenager, so when I ran out of books in the library, and I was about fifteen or sixteen, she said I was old enough to read them. There wasn’t much “mush” in them, as they w…[Read more]

@seekjustice You’re probably not up anymore, but I just wanted to say… “Whoops!” 😛 Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply you’d said anything I disagreed with in your last post. I’m pretty sure we agree on the topic. (I said “inspired” by your post, not “incited” by the post! 😉 😛 )
Anyway, whenever you get this, I hope you’re reassured that th…[Read more]

Ooh, yes a video would be AWESOME! 😀

@jenwriter17 😀
I’ve never cut my hair much above my waist. But I can imagine how horrified I’d be if I somehow had to get it cut above my ears, like Chessy! I think the very shortest I could ever stand would have to be several inches below my shoulders, but I much prefer it long.
@seekjustice 😛 Yeah, on the first video Jane Maree posted, I…[Read more]

@rochellaine Yes, and I was thinking about you the whole time! 😀
Cutting hair is just painful to me, especially since it takes forever for my hair to grow. But yeah, they could’ve given Chessy a bit longer haircut. 🙂
