Exactly! Some how, even in the serious life-threatening scenes, he is irrepressibly positive. And his name is absolutely perfect.

COBALT!!! Without a doubt, most certainly and beyond comparison, Cobalt. It seems like he isn’t technically the main character, but at the same time he’s the life of the story. I don’t think I’ve come across a character like Cobalt before. @writefury How did you come up with him?

I finished it! Awesome job, Rosey. Is this the second book in a series? It’s different from what I read on your blog.

I’m pretty sure the cardinal is Virginia’s state bird, too. I wonder why they are so popular.

I would wait until the child was able to understand the idea of an allegory, that the animals are representing people and that real animals don’t act that way. There is quite a bit more violence toward the end of the book, and the ending is very bleak. (I hope that wasn’t a spoiler.) I’m sure most children could technically handle it, but I don’t…[Read more]

A thousand welcomes, Emma Flournoy! It’s such an honor to meet Kate’s sister. 🙂 You beat me to it, but I’ll say it anyway- welcome to the bestiest place on the Internet!!!
Wait…
@Daeus – is it bestiest or bestistest?

I’m here at last! Now to find something that hasn’t already been said…
I was thinking that Orwell’s writing style makes the allegory particularly easy to see. Maybe it’s because the story isn’t told from a specific animal’s perspective, so you get the overall big picture. Is there another style that could work equally well for something like…[Read more] -

I like Uncharted, too. It sounds mysterious.

It looks like the free version of Animal Farm has been removed both from iBooks and from our iCloud account. 🙁 Unless I find another copy somewhere, I may have to skip this discussion. (This is a great discussion, by the way. Good job, @everyone!) 🙂

Wow, thanks for the warning! Yeah, I’m not allowed on sites like that. Sometimes this culture we live in is so … annoying. Oh well. Thank you so much for telling me.

@Hannah-C Oops, I meant Counted Worthy. I should have clarified that. 🙂 Wattpad sounds neat; I’ll ask my parents to check it out for me. Thanks for explaining it!

Thanks everyone! I don’t have a Kindle, though if I ever get one I will be sure to look. What exactly is Wattpad? Is it an app?

I really want to read that book, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Our libraries don’t have it.

Oh dear, that’s a hard question. Hmm… I would probably pick plot structure, novel structure, characterization, or something like that. I don’t know if I could choose between those, though. 🙂
