@kathleenramm, I love your answer, and I don’t think it was too long. Creativity is a beautiful thing, isn’t it?
1: I write to escape. I’ve had a bit of a rough go with my health in the last few years, and so when something hard happens and I feel completely lost, I write to let out my emotions and sometimes anger, then I talk to God about what’s…[Read more]

@kathleenramm Deep question, deep question. As a kid my sister was the one who tried out writing first, and I said that I didn’t think I’d ever want to write, just read stories. Well, one day I grew bored of all the books I read, and decided to write my own.
And now I’m here and hoooooo boi I don’t know if I’m living a nightmare or the dream…[Read more]

I write for self expression. I’m a not say very much kind of gal. So when I struggle to express myself verbally I write it out via poetry. Then it just flows onto the paper almost effortlessly. It helps me, and others around me who I share my writing with, understand myself better.
As for writing stories. I do it for fun. But I a…[Read more]

ok, so I have one character who is more than a little insecure and definitely a doormat at the beginning of the story… she struggles with anything athletic, which sucks for her since she’s in a military training school. She has a best…[Read more]

Yep, ancient history is so cool! Most of my fantasy cultures are based on ancient or classical cultures. I just like the aesthetics better than any other time period.
Ooh, hmm, I get ideas from history all the time. Mostly it’s an interesting person I’d love to base a character off of, or some cultural or worldview conflict I could…[Read more]

@kathleenramm They can be. Thank you! Yeah, I feel the same way. The ending would be a complete FLOP if that didn’t happen. But with that ending, it’s so much more heartbreaking… I think I might actually cry while writing that one XD
EXACTLY. It’s so true. This is the reason why I HATE the deux ex machina trope!!!!!! The author is like “okay,…[Read more]

@devastate-lasting haha, I see. Well, I haven’t read many classics, but I enjoy the ones I have been reading.
@Calidris no, haven’t heard of it. My curriculum was Mennonite (CLE) I was homeschooled, and the stories bored me to tears at times, literally. Why do I need to read a story about Johnny jumping over cracks in the sidewalk for a nickel…[Read more]

I loved first person POV, just it being in present tense bothered me for quite a while. I can’t remember which books I read that were present tense or past tense first person POV. XD I know that Hunger Games was one of them. And maybe Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer? And Summer Blue Bird by Akemi Bird Blue? Oh, also 100 days of…[Read more]

ok, I want to ask this very random question…
I am odd in the fact that I can take a book that bores my friends to death because it’s too longwinded or not well executed in writing, and still enjoy it because I can fill in the problems?
This is great for enjoying a book, but it also can cause problems because now when I read anything, I fill in…[Read more] -

@kathleenramm The toughest criticism of anything I had, would be my mom on a story I wrote. it was very ridiculous, even for a 12-year-old’s writing and she told me as much and that I could definitely improve it. She said it lovingly, but at that point, it didn’t matter how she said it, it stung my childish pride. XD It was for my schoolwork and…[Read more]

Lol, that’s fine. I only started liking Percy Jackson around the third or fifth book. I think I really enjoyed it because it was me, a little sheltered homeschooler, reading a book I chose to for myself.

@kathleenramm I love this question!
This most difficult feedback I’ve ever received was on my little novel that I wrote when I was 17 and am still working on to this day. It was consistent feedback from the three people I’d picked to review the third draft and they all pretty much said the same thing, that I didn’t know my characters and that my…[Read more]

That’s pretty rough. But a good idea for honest critique…
So, my friend read a short story of mine once. You must understand, this friend was very nice and polite. But after reading my story she kinda cringed, looked at me, and said she’d get the edit back to me later. Yea, so a couple weeks later she hands me my book and it’s…[Read more]

I have a hard time getting honest feedback as well because my writing pals are too nice XD I guess the strongest criticism I got was that one character was being overdramatic? Which, he was. Hey Kathleen! I really like Trench too. The whole DEMA lore is so cool. I honestly think there should be a movie, or at least a book.

@kathleenramm Ouchh, that would hurt. I’m glad it helped you though!

@kathleenramm Probably someone said that the ending to one of my novellas was contrived. Lol. Maybe it was, since I was making it up as I went along. The person had reviewed one of my short stories favorablely, though, so probably I just need to work more on editing.

So. Three characters from my series!
