Elanor replied to the topic Do your characters tend to be more extraverted or introverted? in the forum Topic of the Week 2 years, 7 months ago
@kathleenramm
Mine tend to be a pretty good mix of the two. But I love throwing the two into the same scene and the frustrations that can result from the clash. But also thinking more about it my protagonists are almost without fail an introvert…
But I also have some Introverts who are talkative. These characters talk to cover up how nervous a…[Read more]

Haha, same as you actually. My old characters were more extroverted, but now they lean toward introverted. I’d call them internally extroverted and externally introverted 😉 (say that five times fast). Lately, my (main) characters aren’t real people persons (or would it be people people?), but engage more in, like you said, inner…[Read more]

@kathleenramm I feel like I usually plan for characters to be a little more reserved but they end up being more extraverted to keep the story moving along and the scene interesting, haha. I always need a bit more dialogue.

@kathleenramm Thanks! I thought that the poem was pretty awesome too. (If I do say so myself. . . which I did)
Advice? 🤔 Hmmm. . . well I would say that if you want to write poetry, you need to get a desk job that has really boring and monotonous work that once you get done with you have over an hour of down time where there is basically nothing…[Read more]

Mary G replied to the topic What's Your Favorite Relationship Type in Fiction? in the forum Topic of the Week 2 years, 7 months ago
Yeah, so now that I think of it I have that relationship in most my writing.😅
For example, I have a Butler who is the mentor in the relationship to an upper classes’ unofficially adopted daughter who is 15 years old. She not legally adopted, but that family wanted to start her out on the right foot into society…so she can leave w…[Read more]

Hi everyone! Is been a while since I’ve been on the forum but I thought I’d drop in! So many fun topics lately! This topic definitely caught my eye.
I would say my favorite relationship in books would have to be adoption or guardianship. @joy-caroline
I also like the type of character who takes someone under their wing whether they…[Read more] -

Certainly! They’re all good, in my own most humble opinion. (Of course they are, ’cause why would I mention them if they weren’t? XD)
Scout, Riffles for Watie by Harold Keith, and Snow Treasure, are all not exactly classics. I think RfW was written around 1957, ST around 1942, and Scout was sometime in the 50’s-60’s(Not sure). A…[Read more]

@kathleenramm That’s hard. I’ve barely read any classics besides Narnia (which I liked) and Lord of the Rings (which I enjoyed, but I’m not super crazy about it like some people). Apart from those, the oldest stuff I’ve read has been a dystopia or two, The Raven (as an audio) and Much Ado about Nothing, which so far has been hilarious. But at th…[Read more]

I know, right? XD As long as we stay on the path I don’t mind if we take time to smell the flowers.
I do love the descriptions. Of course after reading them, my own seem very unimaginative.
Oof. That’s a fun question!

Classical. I grew up on it, so the older vocabularies don’t bother me. The depths in story, the mixture of poetry in prose, all the types and shadows… I feel more at home with classics than modern literature.
But I haven’t read much truly old stuff beyond Pilgrim’s Progress, some Shakespeare, and Canterbury Tales (which I do not…[Read more]

Classics. I love them. In fact, most of the more modern fiction that I read is in the same vein and are often called classics. (for example, The Green Ember. 😉 )
Also, I think that having been raised on them, I am not bothered by slower paced books. (Although, if the author jumps down bunny trails that have almost no connection to…[Read more]

@kathleenramm These days I can consume nothing but classic lit. I think when I was younger I found it boring but now I find modern lit lacking in depth and character and theme. Still, I prefer literature from the 1800’s and 1900’s, and maybe occasionally the 1700’s. Anything earlier I find, well, hard to read.

My answer is pretty much identical to yours! I used to largely dislike classics (or the idea of classics, anyway; I didn’t dislike as many of the classics that I read as I thought I did, lol), but in the past two or three years I’ve read more and more classics and they’ve definitely beat out modern fiction in my…[Read more]
