@ingridrd Well, they don’t always have to be cliffhangers. I’ve notice with trilogies that, quite often, the first book ends fairly well. You know there is more to come, but it ends with the main point concluded. The second book ends in a cliffhanger and the third book completes it.

Endings are always the hardest for me to write. Not necessarily picking where to end something, but the last paragraph…the last line, that’s hard. Any tips, everyone? Anyone?

*Takes cookie and munches on it miserably* I’ve a cold in my head and can’t think straight. Besides, everyone here has good points and I don’t know if I’ve anything to add.
Except…let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.
Don’t make an ending too quick. You don’t want it to drag out, but the reader wants to see how the characters…[Read more]

Hey, welcome @winter-rose!! I play piano too (and violin). What type of fantasy do you read? LOTR? I draw too! Mostly animals. Have you tried acrylic or oil painting? That’s always fun. Oh cool! Another archer! 😉 I have a compound bow, but I’ve always wanted to try a recurve bow. Someday I’d really like to try bow hunting.
Again, welcome! Glad…[Read more] -

Combinations transform into emoticons, but I only know some of the simple ones. : ) (with no spaces) gives you 🙂 for example. ; ) gives you 😉 and : P gives you 😛 Beyond that, I’m not sure though you can look up online guides for all kinds of things.

@bluejay I’ve seen it. I really like the Sherwood films, but was underwhelmed by War Room. Plot wise, it was fragmented. And the theme wasn’t woven into the story as well as in the other movies. It seemed like the plot was built around the theme instead. It was still a fairly good movie, but not as good as their others. Have you seen it?

Welcome, @winter-rose! Wait…I know you, don’t I? From Ravelry and e-mails? Unless you have the same name as my friend… 😉

@his-instrument Welcome! I struggle with writing short stories too…meaning I just don’t do it. 😉 I can’t get anything to fit. Most of my stories are novel length, but I’ve discovered recently that I also enjoy writing novellas. At 20,000-30,000 words, they are long enough for me to write a whole story, but I can get them done much quicker than a novel.

@his-instrument Yes, a dove isn’t very epic. But what about a phoenix?
@kate-flournoy I just completed a theology class with a part about the Trinity this last winter… God is three in one. The different tasks, for lack of a better word (such as salvation and judgment) are attributed to all three persons of the Godhead at different times or…[Read more]

I agree with what Daeus said. It’s possible, if done carefully. Personally, while I don’t think dragons are inherently worse than any other animal and I really like them, I don’t know if I’d use them allegorically in such a manner because of the association. Then again, as I think about it, it could be done if it were the right kind of world and…[Read more]

Congratulations @Daeus! It feels so wonderful getting a novel done. Also, I highly recommend throwing some of those raspberries in a vita-mix with yogurt and grinding it up into a frozen fruit shake. I’ve tried it with strawberries and it is delicious!

So, I’ve been thinking (always a dangerous pastime, I know). When writing allegory, it’s fairly easy to represent the Father and the Son as the great King and the Prince. But the third person of the Trinity is normally neglected; probably because it’s so hard to figure out what to do. What are your thoughts on how to represent the Holy Spirit, in…[Read more]

Hope Ann replied to the topic Plot & Characters— Inseparable. in the forum General Writing Discussions 10 years ago
Yes, @kate-flournoy, Characters, characters, characters. They drive the story; some things happen independently of them, but it’s there reaction which keeps the story moving.
