Ah, that’s the self-criticism talking, isn’t it?
FYI: My WIP is about a queen that falls from grace and goes into hiding… and does that by hiding in plain sight as a rising star in the local theatre scene and waging a propaganda war with her enemies. Ridiculous, yes, but I suppose whether it is lame or not is a matter of preference. 😛

Ah, well. For me, I will never get anything done if I sit down to do careful planning and plotting (e.g. I have planned out quite a few things for my adventure/fantasy story and written about 7 chapters but it’ll take forever to plan out the rest because it’s quite the sweeping epic). The trouble is in getting myself to actually…[Read more]

Well, maybe I’m just being too critical of myself. All part of being a writer. Once I get the scenes done, I’ll post them for review to see what you guys think.
But for now I am stuck with these problematic scenes. It is not about me having trouble resisting the urge to edit but more that I haven’t planned everything in my plot out…[Read more]

Goodnight.
I think I’ve told you this before. The scenes that were cute in my head don’t seem to turn out as cute when I write them. 🙁

@seekjustice Oh, that’s awful. 🙁 I hope they get better.
It is highly fascinating. 😛
Well, I’ll be departing now. Goodnight!

Cool. I’ll check it out when I have time.
Haha. Unfortunately, I don’t think any of the heroes in my adventure/fantasy story are in a position to be inflicted with asthma (this has to do why they are immune to the magic plague as well) and/or having asthma does not fit with their characterisation (one of them is a…[Read more]

@valtmy Well, it’s not really an opera, it’s an operetta, so the music might be a bit more bearable. Basically, an operetta has a lot more talking in between songs than an opera, so it’s more like a musical with fancier music than normal. And it’s a comic operetta so the songs are funny too. G&S are great writers. So you might be able to get…[Read more]

Haha that does sound funny though I doubt the opera music will do it for me. I don’t suppose there’s anywhere I can watch it?

@valtmy Okay, well, I thought you might be interested in it. I don’t know what kind of music you like, and you might hate it because of that, (it’s an operetta) but the story is really funny. It’s set in old Japan, and the premise is that flirting has been made a capital crime, and anyone who flirts must be beheaded. Fortunately, in one sm…[Read more]

@valtmy Hey, same here! 🙂 I think I asked you a bit ago if you’d heard of The Mikado. You haven’t, right?
@seekjustice I’m doing okay, but am exhausted right now. 😉 I wanted to pop in and say hi, though, since it feels like a while since I talked to you people.
How are you?

Haha. I am a sadistic writer in my own way. I’m all for anything that can kill the delusional power fantasy that is rampant in adventure/fantasy stories. I mean, how many stories have you read that have badass mages and warriors catching the sniffles (not dealing with romanticised injuries they got in some glorious battle)?
Ooh you…[Read more]

Good?! Given how much you torture your characters, I would have thought that you would have liked it if I made it a gloriously depressing storyline. 😛
By the way, I read your blog post about your story for Nanowrimo! The wattle blossoms remind me of the canola flower fields in Jeju in Korea. 😀

@valtmy @seekjustice Hello, I’m here! 😀
I remember the two big epidemic scares that happened over the past few years. And I remember people talking about what you’re saying – that the world’s so interconnected it’s really hard to contain viruses now.
So…other than discussing the dangers of deadly diseases and their impact on your…[Read more]

Oh, yes. The people I’ve talked to who are in the medical community are all very concerned about the possibility of a global flu outbreak especially given how interconnected the world is now. Great reminder of how we are only living by God’s grace, right?
Haha that storyline is actually only one of the plot threads in the story. The…[Read more]

And to think I thought I was cruel when it comes to killing my characters. 😛
From what I read about the Spanish flu, an unusual thing about it is that a young and healthy person is more likely to die from it if they get infected (something to do with the overreaction of the immune system). So I found it to be very fitting for my…[Read more]

Hi! Haha are you sure you won’t use it to torture your characters someday?
One of my story ideas involve unleashing a magical equivalent of the Spanish flu in an empire so you may never know. 😛

@seekjustice @rochellaine @jenwriter17 @dekreel
Is there anyone around?

Rochellaine replied to the topic Writers' Corner #20 in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 11 months ago
@dekreel Oh, and your sentiments regarding Rime of the Ancient Mariner, (“well written and interesting, but bizarre and hard to understand”) are basically my thoughts on Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey. 😉 So I know exactly where you’re coming from. 😛
