@daeus, sadly, I have not. Though I’ve heard good things about it here…well, mainly from you and @kate-flournoy. I might have to pick it up sometime.
Who here has read Lord of the Rings?

@bluejay No, I’ve not ready Mistaken Identity, though it sounds familiar for some reason.

@winter-rose I’ve not taken it, though I have a friend who took it and really liked it. I’ve considered it…not because of the learning aspect (not because I think I know everything, but I do think it is more beginner) but because I really want to go to the OYAN conferences. Those sound so cool!

@Daeus Hmm, you might be right though that’s a bit hard to confirm since I don’t know if I’ve ever been offended. Annoyed at siblings, yes, but not offended. Do you mean communicative as in talking about it to the other person or in showing they are offended?

So, awhile ago scientists made the stunning discovery that men and woman were different. I still don’t know what sort of mental state I’d be in if they hadn’t figured that out for us. But, besides obvious physical differences, the differences between men and woman are fascinating, especially when it comes to writing and one is writing the opposite…[Read more]

Hey guys, just thought I’d mention that I’m launching a novella this week!!! It’s a retelling of Rapunzel and comes out the fifth, but the blog tour starts today and there’s also a giveaway if anyone wants to enter or check it out here. 🙂

@kate-flournoy Very good points. I’m going to have to keep those in mind, though I don’t think I’ve anything to add right now.
But…oh boy. You’ve given me such a great idea for my own characters. Ethaniel killing the villain’s father…but what if it was less of a battle and more of an ambush. He doesn’t care that the battle should take place…[Read more]

@jadamae Yes, and what is really interesting is that cocaine was legal when the books were written. I’m not sure how widely used it was, but Watson protesting about it is probably similar to a character in a modern book protesting about something like smoking. It was something people could and did use at times.

@hannah-c Yes, something like that.

@warrioroftherealm fire equals storms because storms…lightning…fire. And I couldn’t think of any other element which would work better with storms.

@anna-brie There’s the prophecy still, but the shield doesn’t really do anything. The shield and spear are just…there. It’s a bit of a stumper. But I think I’m starting to figure it out. Something about the shield not having any power at all; it’s more the journey connected with the shield…

@c-c-lane Well, it’s a legendary shield which has been hidden for around five centuries, so that won’t quite work. But since the characters spend the first third of the book searching for it, it needs to mean or two something…though the war won’t be won with powerful weapons, but rather by the power of the Prince.

So I’ve been thinking, both about Sherlock Holmes and writing in general. I think part of our reaction to styles comes with what we are expected. For example, when I read Sherlock Holmes, I expect a mystery. If the emotions are a bit dramatic, or there is quite a bit of telling verses showing, I don’t mind. Because it flows and it reflects the…[Read more]

I feel like the only time I start threads is when I have a problem, but I’ve got such good ideas from you that I’m asking anyway.
In a fantasy I’m working on, I have a shield. It’s not magical, exactly, but it is unbreakable and all that. Anyway, originally the theme was faith and the shield was the shield of faith, etc. But the story has changed…[Read more]

I’m back here in titles, guys, and I wanted your honest thoughts on an idea I got in the middle of the night and which just might work.
Sign of the ShieldIt sounds snappy enough. It’s somewhat cryptic, but not completely baffling. It has a fantasy feel. It would go…[Read more]

Hope Ann replied to the topic Bible Challenge in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 4 months ago
That’s a neat idea. I have gone days without reading fiction before, because I run out of time and only end up reading my Bible and some nonfiction. That would be hard, to not be able to read nonfiction either, only the Bible. Not because I don’t like the Bible, but because there are so many other books I’m trying to read and get through. I don’t…[Read more]

@Kate-flournoy I didn’t see it, though I did hear about it. I wasn’t sure at first, because they did sign papers saying they’d support each other. But Trump rescinded on his promise awhile back, and Cruz has said he’ll support him as the party candidate, he’s just not endorsing him. Which I think is a sign of someone with strong moral beliefs, no…[Read more]

@bluejay I’m a little late to the party, I guess. You seem to have it figured out now, though clues on a dagger would be cool. Perhaps a name engraved into it, or decorative lines they discover are actually part of a map. Or..Or a hilt that conceals a message. He accidentally threw the wrong dagger. Or ran out of weapons. *smirks*
Anyhow, if you…[Read more]
