@bluejay You know how characters are always digging up pleasant photographs, charming lockets, and other happy relics in their attics, then unlocking secrets about them? I dare you to create a relic with a tragic or mysterious backstory. Like, a locket with a mysterious symbol in it that leads the character to discover his/her relative was a…[Read more]

To all concerned: So sorry some of you can’t make it! @gretald, @daeus, @kate-flournoy, @emma-flournoy, I will definitely be having these in the future. I am looking at January, 2017 for the next possible one. It would be a Saturday from 10-2 just like this one, probably the same location, too, so if you are interested, tell me what days work for…[Read more]

Greetings, fellow writers!
So, I’ve been thinking about doing this thing for a while, and I’ve finally gotten a room reserved and a date set. I don’t know how long the drive will be for y’all (although, I have been to Delaware and back in a single day for those of you who live there), but I went through the “Where do you live?” forum and sniffed…[Read more]-
Oh wow @His-Instrument, you really went to a lot of trouble to put this together. I love the idea and would love, love love to do this, but I’m afraid my schedule (aka evil overlord 😉 ) won’t allow it. 🙁 Mostly because right now is a really busy time for my family with our cabin rental business. I wish I could attend, but since I can’t, I wish you luck.
-
@kate-flournoy
Your family has a cabin rental business?! That’s so neat! 😀 -

I invited her to join, but I don’t know if she has. Do you want me to forward the invitation to her?
I’ll have to check out my schedule for January. Get back with you soon.-
If you can forward the invitation that would be great. If she wants to come hang out with a bunch of random strangers, we’d love to have her. 🙂 Hope your Bible bee is successful. I’ve never done Bible bee before, but it sounds like fun. How has your experience with it been? What are the requirements?
-
Ok, good. I’ll let her know about it.
As for the bible bee, I highly recommend it. The competition is very helpful in keeping me to a consistent schedule. Only problem is 18 is the age limit, so this is my last year. There’s a local and national competition (for qualifiers) testing both memory of passages and knowledge of the focus chapters of…[Read more]

Oh, no! I’ll be away at bible bee. Really like the idea though. Maybe we could do another one next year?
Btw, do you know/have you invited Timmory (not sure how to spell that) Blair?
-
For some reason there’s no “reply” option for the post I’m actually replying to. @daeus For Bible bee do you have to memorize a specified 600 verses, or are any 600 accepted? Did you qualify for Nationals? I doubt I’ll ever have time to do Bible bee, but it sounds like a great opportunity.
-
The passages are specified. Yes, I did qualify.

-
@his-instrument
This is such a good idea!!! I wish I could come so much, but I’ll be leaving to go out of town that day. 🙁 If you ever do this again, PLEASE let me know! Hope you have a fun and productive time!
@daeus

Yeah, my younger siblings go to the Blair’s tapestry group and we’ve had them over once or twice. That’s cool you know them too.
-
Oh, yes! We do Tapestry, too, so we almost did their group, but we couldn’t due to scheduling conflicts. 🙂
-
-
-
Me either…pretty much what applies to Kate applies to me. 😉 That sounds terribly fun, though I don’t write books. I hope you have a good time with whoever can come. 😀
-
@his-instrument I talked with my dad and I can do the 7th, 21st, and 28th of January.
Btw, @gretald @ingridrd @winter-rose @kate-flournoy @emma-flournoy, Is anyone going to the celtic ball? I actually don’t know if I’m going myself, but I normally do so I assume I am.
-
@Daeus never heard of it. Probably won’t be able to come because pretty much any out-of-the-ordinary activity doesn’t work when we’re really busy with cabins, but what is it, where is it, and when is it held?
Anything Celtic sounds fascinating to me… 😀-
Ha! Yes, they even have a bagpiper.
So to summarize this: it’s held in Deleware, it’s for homeschoolers, they do mainly traditional dances though I think there are a couple American ones, it’s fairly formal though not super-so, and it’s held every December and then also in the spring and they just started doing one in the summer too (though that…[Read more]

Live bagpiping! That must be fun. 😀

@kate-flournoy
If you would like to go to the Celtic Ball, there is another ball in the spring, too. Just register early because it fills up VERY quickly. 🙂
-
-
-
Sweet. Now I guess I have to register 😛
Be forwarned though. Meeting people from online is probably my greatest fear ever, so we’ll just have to hope I don’t shut down and lose all social skills whatsoever.
-
-
I am going @daeus! See you there? Maybe? There are so many people there that it’s hard to find anyone. 😉
-
*chuckles* Yeah. Well, you have a few hours at least.
-
-
@daeus I’ll check with the other Ohio folks and see if those days will work for them, too. I’ll let you know about when the next Writers’ Gathering would be.
-
-
We’ll do another one in January, @winter-rose . Probably on a Saturday. Same location, same time. What are some dates that might work for you? Do you have any open weekends in January?

@dragon-snapper There are some websites you can look into that help you find college scholarships. FastWeb is one of them. So is Niche. Granted, they will take your e-mail address and mailing address, and you will get mail from colleges who are interested in you, but it’s not too bad. There’s also Chegg, which I think I am signed up for but I…[Read more]

Yeah, @sarah-h, when I asked my dad what he thought 2290 would be like, he said he didn’t think the world would still be around then. But hey, the disciples thought Jesus would return before they died, too. For years, Christians have expected the end of the world.
@daeus, things will definitely be starting to dip back down in my story. Otherwise…[Read more] -

@corissa-maiden-of-praise I have always wanted to go out in the middle of a woods somewhere wearing a cape and carrying a knapsack and sleep on the leaves. I’m gonna do it someday.
I did get the amazing chance to play a hiding game in the woods during a moonlit night last year. It was great. It was one of those games where one person is “it” and…[Read more] -

So I’m going to try sci-fi. Never done it before. The setting is 2290, almost 300 years in the future. And that leaves me with a problem, because I have no idea what the future will be like.
There are two ways I could take this.
1) I could assume that our hopes and prayers will be answered, the world will return from the brink of the great Abyss…[Read more] -

@anne-of-lothlorien, first of all I love that you’re from Lothlorien (I’m from Rivendell myself). Second of all, I did consider how quickly Rey came to understand the force– I guess I just determined that it was even stronger in her blood than in anyone else’s.
I think Rey and Fin shouldn’t have a romantic relationship. Their relationship seemed…[Read more] -

Hannah R. replied to the topic May I ask for some help? -World Naming- in the forum Fantasy 8 years, 2 months ago
@aella One thing to do is purchase a baby name book or use a baby naming app. I have discovered patterns through researching names. For instance, the suffix “win” means “friend” in English. “Geir” means “spear,” “bjorn” means “bear,” “olf” means “wolf,” etc. So you can combine things like that. For instance, I have a character named Garawyn, which…[Read more]

@bluejay and @jess, the live-action Jungle Book is amazing! See, I grew up on the animated one. It was literally the first feature-length film I ever saw, and I used to pretend I was “the girl” (you know, the one who was carrying water at the end of the movie) and make my mom be Baloo or Mowgli. Keep in mind that this was a long time ago. I was,…[Read more]

@bluejay It’s sad how much America has commercialized Christmas and Easter. My family has never done anything with Santa Claus (is Santa Claus even a thing in Australia?) and we have a “happy birthday Jesus” celebration every year on Christmas morning with family. Easter for us is just a great time to remember Jesus’ sacrifice. A lot of churches…[Read more]

@hope-ann I am so glad you started this discussion.
