Hannah C started the topic Help With Synopsis in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 2 months ago
I’ve never written a synopsis and I want to know what y’all think of this one. Does it make you want to read the book? Does it pique your interest? Please be brutally honest and tell me what it needs.
Gladiola Bloom has never dreamed of a life away from her beloved Carrabasset Valley yet when her family decides to move to an unsettled land she…[Read more]

Thanks @Aella! I’m glad I have somewhere to burst forth in outburst without seeming strange. XD
I am now going to attempt to write a synopsis which I have never done and have been putting off. But if I’m going to finish this book it has to have one and there’s no time quite like the present.HC

@Aella hah thank you. In truth I despise outlining. Every fibre of my being rails against it and cries “No, we can do this on our own. We don’t need plans!” But after the uphill struggle that was my last book I think it’s mandatory. I want to get to the end of my book and be glad that it’s done, not because I can put it behind me and be done with…[Read more]

I am doing NaNoWriMo for the first time this year. My friend challenged me to a competition to see who could finish a NaNoWriMo book first so I decided to give it a try. It’ll be a sequel to my current book and I’m going to be plotting *shudders* this book out.

I’m guessing that your story is along the lines of a biblical analogy? The Prince being Jesus and the MC representing a Christian?

Great idea @clairec! I’m trying to write a few sermons for my book right now so maybe this will give me some idea on what to write about. Plus I’ve been trying to get into the Word at least once a day, even if it’s just a verse.
@Overcomer, @gretald, @writefury would you like to do this with me?

@overcomer I’ve written one full novel which I’m currently editing. My advice is: Write Without Fear. When you’re in the writing zone don’t stress about how perfect every word sounds, just sit down and write. Get the idea out. Once that’s done you can go back later and make it sound pretty. I didn’t follow this rule when I wrote my first novel and…[Read more]

@Overcomer haha I can’t wait to read that. I’m actually surprised it’s taken me this long to read the books since I’ve always loved the shows/movies.

@Overcomer yes! And you get to see Sherlock through Watson’s eyes. For the most part he sees him as an incredible man but I love how Watson gets irritated and frustrated at his companion. The author did a great job in making them human without being boring.

I would like to point out the fact that Sir Arthur Conan Dole did an excellent job (in my opinion) on making Sherlock Holmes human. Most authors would have been tempted to take this character with extraordinary abilities and make him perfect all around but not in this case. Sherlock is vain and self centered at times and we catch a glimpse of just…[Read more]

@Aella the best laid plans of white-rabbit chasers. *sighs* I’ve only ever done a vague version of a character sketch when I got halfway through my book and realized I didn’t know my protagonist very well at all.
Most of my ideas are kept *taps head* right here. Probably not the most efficient way to write.HC
