Ooo, fun. I’ve never thought of inn names before:
The Screaming Falcon
Sign of the Rolling Heads
The Ax and Rose
The Black Griffin

You may have guessed by the name of the topic that this has to do with inns.
Then again, you may not have. Now you know.
One of my favorite phraseology exercises is to just sit back and think of all the different word combinations that evoke different feelings, images, and moods— and one of my favorite ways to do that is to make up inn names.…[Read more]

Well, think of it this way. What I really said is, “I think I can keep it down to about five hundred pages, six hundred at most. The thing is, I’m only about a seventh of the way through, so I have no idea what might wiggle its way into my story.”
I could also say, “I think I can keep my book to about a quarter of the length of the entire…[Read more]

I think I can keep it under 200,000 words though

@Daeus It’s not a problem of people wanting to read the book…it’s the problem of getting a book with a huge word count published because the publishers can have limits. 😉

Thank you so much for taking the time to critique my poem, Daeus! I really like your suggestions. 🙂

My sentiments exactly.
This poem is very good in that it gives one feel and then caries that same feel without turning to astray to another throughout its entirety, growing ever stronger and stronger. The one problem with this poem is that it is a little to prose-y in some parts. You use a lot of slant rhyme which is excellent, but where you…[Read more]

A Day in the Country
By: Greta Dornbirer
Oh, where are you going,
On this sunny day?
To the country I’m a-going!
Why to the country?
The city you should try!
Oh no! The city is not for me!
For I prefer the country,
Where all is bright and gay!
The night is dark and s…[Read more]

Maybe you should try setting yourself parameters. For instance, set a timer for a half an hour and resolve to stay off your computer. Then, write down just a few main questions for your self. Who are my main characters? How can I describe them in less than 6 sentences? What are the major plots of my story? Once you have got down the bare bones…[Read more]

Here’s my theory. It doesn’t really matter how long your book is. All people want to do is buy a good book. They don’t necessarily want to read it so size doesn’t really matter. Your job is make the cover and summary so appealing that people must buy it. Then you must make them finish it whether they intended to or not, because after reading the…[Read more]

Have you ever tried outlining before? Perhaps you are one of those types of people and just don’t know it. I think with anyone outline will help them write faster even if for certain people it may still not be worth it.
My system is only a little different from the Ezra system. It is more complicated and therefore a devolution.
Do an outline of…[Read more]

@dbhgodreigns— yes, I know, it’s awful. I used to fret that my novels weren’t long enough, when I’d first started, and now I fret that they’re too long and no one will want to read them. 😛
It seems to be impossible to strike some middle ground.
