Maybe you should try setting yourself parameters. For instance, set a timer for a half an hour and resolve to stay off your computer. Then, write down just a few main questions for your self. Who are my main characters? How can I describe them in less than 6 sentences? What are the major plots of my story? Once you have got down the bare bones…[Read more]

Criticize it!? It’s perfect!
All the more so because… I can do that. 😛

Here’s my theory. It doesn’t really matter how long your book is. All people want to do is buy a good book. They don’t necessarily want to read it so size doesn’t really matter. Your job is make the cover and summary so appealing that people must buy it. Then you must make them finish it whether they intended to or not, because after reading the…[Read more]

Have you ever tried outlining before? Perhaps you are one of those types of people and just don’t know it. I think with anyone outline will help them write faster even if for certain people it may still not be worth it.
My system is only a little different from the Ezra system. It is more complicated and therefore a devolution.
Do an outline of…[Read more]

@dbhgodreigns— yes, I know, it’s awful. I used to fret that my novels weren’t long enough, when I’d first started, and now I fret that they’re too long and no one will want to read them. 😛
It seems to be impossible to strike some middle ground.

@Greta-D yes! Where the Red Fern Grows makes me bawl as well. And Old Yeller, though not in the same way.

I usually don’t cry during books, but I cried during Allegiant (I was literally bawling) and Where the Red Fern Grows (and I was bawling again 🙂 ). And I started tearing up reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and The Seven Sleeper Series.

Thanks, @hislittlerose. Sounds really neat. My schedule would not allow me to participate, but it sounds like something I would otherwise love to do.
And yes, I do like to write a lot. 😛 My WIP is currently 291,874 words in length. I’m going to be trimming a lot, but I may also add some stuff, so it’s anyone’s guess as to where it will end up. 😀

Yeah. Okay. I like that. We could do that— the piece of cloth. So does he lose it or give it up?
@Hope— he changes as far as I know. 😛
So here’s a question. What makes him change? Is it Alex? If so, how?

Oh, I see. Of course you could do the 5 paragraph essay, but that’s just an option. It is based around the three points system. If you have more points to make you will have to break those bounds. The five paragraph essay system is designed to help you understand how to write a coherent and systematic presentation. Once you have learned how to do…[Read more]

@Ivy: Yes, it’s so sad when you forget it. :'(
You know you’re a writer when you get very emotional about killing off one of your characters.

You know you’re a writer when you start writing your novel in your head before you go to sleep.

Good point.
How about in searching through the rubbish after the terror attack, he finds a large scrap of fabric from his mother’s dress on the day she was killed which he picks up and ever after wears wrapped around his wrist and he will never never explain to anybody why he does so. People asking him about it and his refusal to answer will…[Read more]

Hey, I just realized we don’t really have an emotional hook thus far. We’re forced to remember without any help what Walter went through that made him this way…
Hm. What if he wears a locket that had been his mother’s around his neck, or maybe a piece of lace that had belonged to her in his pocket, and takes it out from time to time…[Read more]
