Kathleen replied to the topic Anyone else feel like all your story ideas are beyond your skill level? in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 11 months ago
I’m a bit late to this topic and everyone else had great advice, but I just decided to pitch in my thoughts just in case it can help at all. 🙂
My best advice for handling darker, grittier things, is not the most helpful advice because a lot of people can’t do it, but to have some kinda first hand experience with it, or be really…[Read more]

Hi! Awesome to have you!
I’ve recently been getting into poetry, but haven’t tried writing any myself. What has been the inspiration for your latest poem?
I love writing short stories! Like Jodi, I’ve been trying to write at least one a month, however the past few days I feel like the creative writing part of my brain has taken a…[Read more]

@joy-caroline Murder someone.
Well, or badly injure someone. Is what I do. I’m assuming, however, that your story isn’t of the suitable genre. But yeah, what Jenna said. Keep writing by looking forward to whatever’s coming. Or maybe spice things up by doing something unexpected. Or develop who you thought was gonna be a minor character. Whatever…[Read more]

Sometimes this happens to me when I’m working on a more slow-paced story. But I try to remember that if the plot points are big changes for the protagonist and move the plot forward, then they’re important, even if they might not seem exciting. 🙂

@milena Hi there! Lovely to have you here! KP is such an awesome place where we just get to hang out with other God-focused authors and chat about random stuff, and it’s so much fun!
Hmm…let’s see…Some questions! Where in the world are you from? (Feel free to be as vague as you like!) And do you have any pets? Or if you don’t, would you like some?

Mallory O'Bier replied to the topic What is your least favorite type of hero? in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years, 11 months ago
I think I know what you mean, @gracie-j. Good heroines are hard to find. Elizabeth Bennet is definitely one of the rare exceptions. She’s brilliantly written, and we’re the same personality type (ENTP), so it’s hard not to like her. We think too much alike. 😉
My sister is an INTJ and she likes Darcy for the same reasons. We enjoy debating and…[Read more]

I think my least favorite type of hero is the chosen one. It’s pretty overdone, and at times so cliche. I don’t hate it, though.
Also, the Mary Sue hero, because it’s just really hard to relate to and like a hero that is overpowered through basically no effort of their own, always gets stronger right when they need to, and never seems to actually…[Read more]

@milena Hi there! Welcome to Kingdom Pen! I hope you have an awesome time here! I’m Linyang, one of the members here!
Ah, I used to write a ton of poetry! I’m looking forward to seeing whatever you share!
Short stories are fun! And I totally relate to finding inspiration everywhere. What are some of your favorite movies/books/songs?

Hopefully I can be of some help! I’m by no means an old writer (though I occasionally feel old amongst all the young teenagers on here 😛 ), but I feel like I have some experience with this topic.
When I was a really young teen (13/14/15, even all the way up to 17) I tackled some pretty heavy topics in my writing and I really did…[Read more]

@nanisnook Ah, sorry to hear you’re feeling like this! I guess here are my tips:
- Read terrible writing
- Daydream about your writing dreams

- Take a break
Hope these help!

Lin replied to the topic What mythological creature would you like as a writing partner? in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years, 11 months ago
@kathleenramm Mm, I’ve always loved dragons. But after much consideration I’ve realised that a dragon would burn my papers to a crisp. Which is why I’m going for an eastern dragon. They can’t breathe fire (most, at least), they’re super duper cool, they can fly and take me places, they can fly up to the celestial heavens and talk with the…[Read more]

A sphinx. For all the same reasons. Plus, they speak in riddles, which would exercise my brain on a routine basis and potentially help me come up with more creative phrases to replace cliches because I could practice giving unexpected but accurate answers to said riddles. Plus, sphinxes are underappreciated and I like…[Read more]

“If you could have a mythological creature as a writing partner which would it be? How would your stories change by them contributing?”
This may sound like a strange answer, but my choice is a Pegasus. One, because they’re super cool. Two, I love horses. Three, flying sounds AWESOME. Four Pegusi seem smart and creative. Five, they seem like the…[Read more]
