So, I got pulled in by the title. Most ‘modern’ fantasy (or what ever this type is) I’ve picked up I’ve almost instantly put down feeling sick. This was light-hearted and meaningful, and… I don’t know. I read everything you had posted in like twenty minutes.

I’ve never heard of The Lost Island of Tamarind, but now I’ll have to check it out after hearing what you said about it! I love stories with good characters and relationships.
220? Manga or not that’s still a lot of reading.
Do you have any favorite Manga you read this year?
Most of the books you mention are…[Read more]

@kathleenramm Don’t feel bad, I can hardly read anything besides manga now. But for the sake of this discussion I’ll leave manga out of it.
How Many Books Have you Read this Year? List every one you read!
Out of the 220 books I read, only 15 were real books. And a lot were rereads.

Ugh. That is VERY annoying. I have had similar things happen, and I could have sued someone.
A funny story though: So I have a country in one of my WIPs that is called Dorwin. The citizens were called Dorwinians. Imagine my shock when I read the Hobbit and found out the elves have Dorwinian wine. The amazed, even fascinated,…[Read more]

Hmmm… maybe I’ll go back to Beatrice and her cow one day. Because yeah, now looking at it there’s a lot of cool ways I could direct the story.
lol. Nothing like a movie or book coming out with a premise oddly similar to the one you are working on to crush your motivation, haha. That’s happened to me at least once before, but I…[Read more]

Hey there!
Let’s see…
The Secret Keepers by Trenton Lee Stewart (someone already mentioned The Mysterious Benedict Society by the same author–both are super good!)
The Accidental Hero, The Second War, and The End of Infinity by Matt Myklusch (a lot more action and techy stuff in that one)
The Story Thieves Series by James…[Read more]

Actually, after looking up Urban Fantasy I don’t think either or the book series above mentioned would fall into that category. Sorry about the confusion. -

It’s been a while since I’ve popped into the forum, and I’m so sorry I never replied to y’all!! Life got crazy!!
I guess now is as good a time as any since I happen to be the Queen of Belated Things (hence, the title of this thread…and the fact that I’m still working on a birthday gift for a friend who had her birthday in August… and how I’m…[Read more]

@daisy-torres Aye, I’ve heard both good and bad things about Wattpad, and I feel like the stuff I write doesn’t fit into the romance vibe of it, so for now I’m hopefully going to be sticking with Webnovel and Tapas. I’m glad you had a good experience with it though.

@daisy-torres Ah thank you so much! Unfortunately, no, I wouldn’t recommend it. The readerbase is very small already and without signing a contract it is hard to garner any attention for your work. Plus, the site caters much more to genres like LGBT.

Elanor started the topic How do I make a non-cliche escape scene? in the forum Plotting 4 years, 3 months ago
So a person escapes the bad guys. This is a characteristic of most every book I’ve read. I’m writing a prison escape in my current WIP and am wondering how to make it something that’s not just the same old thing.
Any tips and or advice would be gladly appreciated.
I’ll tag a bunch of people.

Faith Q. started the topic When is it okay to defy the government? in the forum Mission, Calling & Ethics 4 years, 3 months ago
Okay, y’all, I’ve got a dilemma on my hands.
To give you a bit of background information, my main character (Emeric Dertok) has recently come back into society after eight years of living the life of a hermit. He’s working for the King (Jornan), who charged him with the task of tracking down spies trying to sabotage the government. But as enters…[Read more]

@daisy-torres It’s been forever since I’ve read any of these, but the Dreamtreaders series by Wayne Thomas Batson (the main character who is very much from our world is one of three-ish people who can enter the dream world) and The Hundred Cupboards by N.D. Wilson (a portal fantasy set partially in Kansas) might fit the bill. Both authors are Ch…[Read more]
