@kate-flournoy Haha! I’m a mind reader too now. 😀
@bethanysinkyroses First, I think the Yellowstone setting could work. As far as the plot goes, my suggestion would be to make it a “back and forth” plot. What I mean is, have two distinct spheres for your story: one, the sphere of the MC’s interaction with her mother; the other, the sphere of…[Read more]

She can be a stereotype on the outside without being one on the inside. If she isn’t a POV character, maybe she could have someone she can confide in.

@bethanysinkyroses I’d agree with what Mark and Kate said. You’ve got a setting, but you don’t have any sort of plot. Predicaments alone are very boring. The predicaments need to build on each other. The outcome of one should lead to another, gradually making things worse and worse.
I also agree that clashing fantasy and slice of life isn’t a…[Read more]

@xonos-darkgrate I totally love that guy. Rogue One wasn’t my favorite movie, but the villain wins big awesomeness points imo.

Okay! I think I’ve got it now. I still want to come up with a dramatic tagline, but the rest of it’s done. What do you think?
Trevor is in a mess. After traveling back in time, he and his sister get trapped in medieval England where a mad scientist rules the country with technology and terror. As war brews, Trevor gets the chance to prove his…[Read more]

@raevynstar Confidence is key. A good spoiled brat sees the world in black and white. Their confidence in themselves is unflinching and they don’t consider other ways of looking at things. Such firmness inspires respect, even in fools.
Don’t know if that fits your character, but it’s one thing that works really well.

@jess-penrose We call them both.
@josiahdeboer You don’t need to have read the book. Just tell me your gut feelings. Most people, after all, do read a synopsis before they read the book.

@everybody Thanks for the feedback! I suppose I’ll tweak some of the wording then get back to you.
@dragon-snapper Both, of course. 🙂
@xonos-darkgrate There are some plot twists, yes, but the story doesn’t stand on its unusual premise. It stands much more on its psychological depth. And, certainly! Go ahead and reword it.

Hi KeePers,
I’m trying to nail down the synopsis for my time travel novel Fools In The Darkness. If you have a moment, I’d really appreciate your help. Here’s what I have so far.
Trevor is in a mess after traveling back in time
Not only has he abandoned his friend to die, but he and his sister are now stuck in medieval England where a mad…[Read more]

@xonos-darkgrate I’m sure it would. It would be cool to give a bad guy a subplot too.

@xonos-darkgrate By sub-plots, I basically mean adding in side characters with their own intertwining stories. I also mean how the main events John Huss experiences affect the many different areas of his life. For instance, you could build a subplot around a book he is writing, or a friendship he has with a small child, or a theological dilemma…[Read more]

@xonos-darkgrate That sounds like a great idea. You might want to read the book Trial And Triumph. It’s a novel about John Huss, and I really liked it. I would also highly recommend you read Rora. It’s a real-life story of a Waldensian resistance fighter with added details to bring it to life. It might give you some ideas, especially on how to…[Read more]

Daeus replied to the topic Is My Main Character Well-Developed? in the forum Characters 7 years, 1 month ago
@raevynstar He sounds good to me. 😀 The one thing I would point out is that sometimes writers will make these types of characters mopey. It’s fine for characters to be sorrowful and introspective, but they must have a strong goal they are pursuing at the same time, or it will be hard to root for them.
@dragon-snapper That’s right. You got it.

@raevynstar Hi Raevyn. Welcome to the bestistest place on the internet.
It’s always cool to meet other poets out there. You’ll have to share one of your pomes with us sometime.
Btw, do you know what your personality type is?
