SeekJustice replied to the topic Hello! in the forum Start HERE 3 years, 6 months ago
@morgan Hello! I’m Chelsea, one of the interns at KP, and we’re so happy to see you! If you don’t mind me asking, whereabouts are you from? (be as vague as you like!) I’m from somewhere in outback Australia. And do you have any favourite books or authors?

@kathleenramm That’s hilarious!
Well, I couldn’t decide between my current WIP and my last WIP so I decided to do them both.
My current WIP:
1. Mere, the POV protagonist and a rather fiery girl who won’t take no for an answer, but in reality is deeply insecure.
2. Gabe, her brother and a renowned botanist about to embark on a voyage of…[Read more]

Jenna Terese replied to the topic How to make your plot more exciting? in the forum Plotting 3 years, 6 months ago
Sometimes this happens to me when I’m working on a more slow-paced story. But I try to remember that if the plot points are big changes for the protagonist and move the plot forward, then they’re important, even if they might not seem exciting. 🙂

@milena Hi there! Lovely to have you here! KP is such an awesome place where we just get to hang out with other God-focused authors and chat about random stuff, and it’s so much fun!
Hmm…let’s see…Some questions! Where in the world are you from? (Feel free to be as vague as you like!) And do you have any pets? Or if you don’t, would you like some?

Mallory O'Bier replied to the topic What is your least favorite type of hero? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 6 months ago
I think I know what you mean, @gracie-j. Good heroines are hard to find. Elizabeth Bennet is definitely one of the rare exceptions. She’s brilliantly written, and we’re the same personality type (ENTP), so it’s hard not to like her. We think too much alike. 😉
My sister is an INTJ and she likes Darcy for the same reasons. We enjoy debating and…[Read more]

Mallory O'Bier replied to the topic What is your least favorite type of hero? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 6 months ago
I think my least favorite type of hero is the chosen one. It’s pretty overdone, and at times so cliche. I don’t hate it, though.
Also, the Mary Sue hero, because it’s just really hard to relate to and like a hero that is overpowered through basically no effort of their own, always gets stronger right when they need to, and never seems to actually…[Read more]

Hopefully I can be of some help! I’m by no means an old writer (though I occasionally feel old amongst all the young teenagers on here 😛 ), but I feel like I have some experience with this topic.
When I was a really young teen (13/14/15, even all the way up to 17) I tackled some pretty heavy topics in my writing and I really did…[Read more]

I can’t remember where I heard this, but this came to mind: “God doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called.” God gave you that story idea. He must want it t be told. By you. Just know that He wants to help you, strengthen you, support you. Yes, research is a must, but at some point you just have to let go, take a deep…[Read more]

This thread has been really fun to read! Sadly, I’ve never written a proposal scene before and I am not likely to write one any time soon 🙁 Only one pair of my characters canonically get married and its technically after the story ends. Maybe I could add in a…[Read more]

@gracie-j Thanks for starting this thread! It’s been super helpful for me as well to read through the comments :))
I’m echoing @devastate-lasting that handwriting, although time-consuming when you have to type it all out, is distraction free + portable + forces you to keep going and produce something. It’s also much more enjoyable than staring at…[Read more]

Word sprints might help. Just set a timer and go without stopping. I don’t know if you use Scrivener, but it has this really cool feature where when you go to full screen typing mode, it has a setting that will only let you see the line that you’re typing (or a couple behind) to stay focused. My drafts are messy, but I just tell myself…[Read more]

Jenna Terese replied to the topic Writing for a Career? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 6 months ago
@lydia-s That’s so awesome that you want to make writing a career! 😀 That’s so awesome! That’s also what I pursued after high school. I didn’t go to college for it, because I didn’t think that was necessary. I think there are plenty of other resources (books, courses, websites, videos, etc.) that you can learn adequately from without paying as…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic An amazing story idea pops into your head: What do you do? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 6 months ago
I don’t usually write it down right away. I usually just let it percolate (my favourite word, mainly because its so bizarre) in my head for a while. And if I remember it, that means I’m obsessed with it and that’s when I get a physical notebook and start making notes and outlines for it! Mostly I just forget my ideas, which is fine…[Read more]
