@adry_grace I agree with @Daeus. There would have to be something important beyond the art for one to risk there life. As much as I love my nation, I’m not going to risk almost certain death simply to save a historical document like the Declaration of Independence or raise a fallen flag. Now, if it served a greater purpose, like rallying the…[Read more]

Welcome @hannah-olsen! I just saw this post…I’m not on here quite as much as I should be. Trying to get writing done and things like that. Once one gets on this forum, they can keep going for quite a while and forget the time. 😉
Anyway, I love writing fantasy, mainly. And I’m not sure what there is to say that no one else has said. But a late…[Read more]

And now for the weighter topics.
I agree with you, @Daeus, about never being sure what will happen. I read a book where a man was going to be starved to death. His wife had the plague, or something like that, so she came to see him, knowing she was contagious and figuring he’d die quickly that way. He did die a day or two later, but around the…[Read more]

Don’t turn green yet, @kate-flournoy. E doesn’t kill D. That would simply be too tragic (as if what I have in store isn’t) and it doesn’t go with the plot line. But I may use this dilemma in my seven book series I’m planning. Whenever I get a good idea and I don’t know where to put it, I stash it over in my seven book series. I’ll have more…[Read more]

@adry_grace I’ve never been a fan of the “Which do you save the one or the many” questions.
Ah, but this is such a hard question…one you can use to torment characters no matter what your stand on it. The same with mercy killings. I can’t really argue for them because I don’t believe killing is right. And yet, because everyone agreeing doesn…[Read more]

We’ve not had a tough topic on here for awhile, so I decided to start another one. That, and I was thinking up potentially tragic moments for one of my WIPs and considered a scene with a mercy killing, where a friend is forced to kill another friend because the latter friend is mortally wounded and/or can’t be moved, enemies are approaching,…[Read more]

Also, your sister is writing much better than I was at her age. My stories were barely a paragraph long.

I’ve one character who was only supposed to be in a scene, as part of background and setting for another character. But as soon as he slammed through the inn door, I knew he’d need a subplot of his own. He developed surprisingly swiftly…I hardly had to plan it. Just figure out how to get him a decent place in the story, which ended up not being…[Read more]

Hope Ann replied to the topic Newsflash: Missing Cat, but how did it escape? in the forum Novel Idea Critiques 8 years, 7 months ago
What kind of doors does your house have? I’ve a friend who has a number of cats, some of which are very clever. Her doors are mainly lever doors (with the long handles instead of knobs) and the cats know how to open them. Perhaps a door wasn’t locked and the cat was able to open on of the lever doors and then push open the screen door (or maybe…[Read more]

You know you’re a writer when you lay in bed at night and can’t decide if you want to mull over a retelling of Robin Hood for a family movie, or a retelling of a fairy tale for your novella…

@adry_grace Hmm, I hadn’t thought of those questions. Why are the princesses (though they probably won’t really be princesses in my story) having to sneak out? And who is watching/guarding them? And why?

@rolena-hatfield Ooo, I really like Ruth Sanderson’s paintings…I wonder if our library has her retelling of the story?
And a secret castle or hideout; that’s a good idea. 😉
Hmm *slips into rambling mode to think better…no one need take notice*
