Ah yes Dumbo! I had forgotten about that movie! I grew up on Dumbo and Cinderella. If it wasn’t one in the VHS player it was the other. Huh… it’ll be weird when I try to explain to my kids one day what a VHS player is. hehehe 🙂

Great thoughts!
Because of the picture Mr. Lewis is painting here for us, that good works are a part of salvation, there is therefore no picture of accountability and future judgment and everyone has the chance at being received as a son so long as he does good things in this life.
Such a false picture of just and holy judgment. If it was as Mr.…[Read more] -

One little nifty trick that helps me when I think my characters personalities are becoming vague and watered down from what I originally wanted them to be, is to interview them.
Take them out of the story, set them down and figure out their likes, wants, goals, fears, etc. It’s kinda fun to ask your character about their life problems,…[Read more] -

“I still don’t know how you talked me into this,” Clara rubbed her arm and checked the ground around her for the hundredth time. I rolled my eyes looking out over the pond filled with millions of little green duckweed; the perfect spot for frog hunting. “I didn’t talk you into this, Mr. Hess our science teacher did. If we don’t catch a frog, we…[Read more]

Rolena Hatfield replied to the topic Symbols continued in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 10 months ago
Sometimes, symbols can be used to actually tell the story.
Hmmm… I’m thinking that this is the whole purpose of symbols anyway. They’re there to tell the story. Just like the blue moon in my novel, or the linder stones in Princess Academy or the ring in LOTR. Their all there to tell us something about the character, remind us about something…[Read more]

That thought, was an inspiring one! @kate-flournoy You almost got me to cry out in agony for the poor mother sitting there teary eyed as she watched the flickering flame go out in a little poof.
I love symbols. Especially when they are something other than a necklace. 🙂 Although I’ve used a necklace before in a book I’m actually working on…[Read more]

I can do my best to explain it to you by my experience in self-publishing. 🙂
So once I was finished with the long and tedious editing process of my novel, I researched the best possible free e-book publishing companies out there. I went ahead and choose to use Booktango because they offered 100% royalties of all sale made on their site. And…[Read more]

Ah-ha! @kate-flournoy! This is why I love the forum! Your statement Show us several times she sees the Bible, and almost picks it up, then decides against it. I think is what I was missing. I like this discussion. A lot!
@kate-flourney Your points are fantastic and simple. Wonderful observations. It does seem like the writers of classics wrote their books as an overflow of their life as Reagan stated it. (Ben Hur and Little Women are examples of that)
I especially liked your point that The existence of God is a given. If we go into…[Read more] -
