Tren stared intently into the smoke.

“All I see is smoke and a purple blob.”

“That’s him! Fire Face!” The cat bounded up, squeaking.

“A purple cat, what next? Okay, grab him and let’s get out of here.”

Carrots! Carrots of all things!

“Well, then he’ll definitely be in the kitchen.” Tren tripped over something and slammed into the floor. Lifting himself half up he groped for what he tripped over, it was a table leg. “This way, I think the kitchen is this way, but if it’s not, we’ll have to follow the walls. Call him again!”

Boxes. Cabinets. The kitchen to the dining hall had plenty of those, plus food.

“Follow me.” Tren navigated through the smoke and flames. “Tel me when you see anything from the dining hall, I need to get to the kitchen, he could be there.”

Tren stopped.

“You need to soak that hand. Besides, the fire’s still going, I don’t need you getting any more hurt.” He hid behind his back his arm with the burn on it. She didn’t need to use his argument against him.

“What?!” You mean he started the fire?” Carrie nodded. “Stay here, I need to go find a kitten, what’s his name?”

“Fire F-face.” Carrie looked at the ground.

“Alright, stay where you are and I’ll return your little face of fire.” Tren bolted for the burning palace.
