  • Not another one. I know this is my job. But it’s the part I hate, more than the little kid in front of me, clutching his mother’s hand.
    “No, mommy, I really don’t want a shot.”
    “Listen, Johnny, if you be a good boy and don’t cry, I’ll get you a lollipop.” Great; how I despise these mothers who think that bribery is a good way to get your kids to…[Read more]

  • Oh, I believe I forgot to mention that I want to know what you guys talk to yourselves about and anything that you have discovered while talking to yourself that has made an impact in your writing or otherwise. Just curious! 🙂

    “Are there other crazy people out there?” *squints and looks around suspiciously*

  • I was talking to myself last night, and I suddenly came upon the topic of colors and how they make me feel. I’ve heard a lot about how blue is supposed to be a super relaxing and calming color, and red is supposed to be the opposite. I think of colors kind of like people, with very distinct personalities to each. So if you don’t mind, I would like…[Read more]

    @writefury
    Yes, that is good and exactly what I was hoping for! (Oh, the humility…)

    @daeus
    Do you have any suggestions as to this “poetic imagery” you speak of? They would be greatly appreciated.
    And also: the grammar nerd in me absolutely cannot resist… It’s you’re.

    Thanks, @kate-flournoy! I’m mostly writing free verse, as I don’t feel completely comfortable with rhyming poems yet. I’ll be sure to watch out for the long lines from now on.

    About Beleg, yes, he was a bowman (and, I must say, one of my favorite characters in The Silmarillion), but apparently, one of the translations of my name into Elvish is…[Read more]

  • So, I’ve been trying my hand at poetry lately, and I must say, I’m really enjoying it. I wrote this down one night, as a rush of inspiration hit me. Tell me what you think and let me know of anything I can do to make it better.

    Forever Yours

    Dark and painful,
    difficult and unhappy,
    are the memories

    Interesting… on the forum posts it says it’s around 8 pm, but it’s 5 o’clock here in California… Wow, have I been paying attention.

    Anyways, hello Anna! Welcome to Kingdom Pen! I have heard rumors that we writers here are crazier than the people on Tumblr. But that can’t be true… Can it? Well, just letting you know, once you join, there’s…[Read more]

  • A Tale of Two Cities is one of my all-time favorite historical fictions. (I feel that I’ve mentioned that one a lot in the forums I’ve been on!)

    @kate-flournoy and @daeus: I’m more than halfway through with The Count of Monte Cristo, and…[Read more]

  • The Viking Quest series by Lois Walfrid Johnson. The whole series is really bittersweet, which I love!

  • You know you’re a writer when you’ve considered rewriting someone else’s book, because you know that you can write character dialogue and plot lines WAAYY better than the author.

  • Hi, Hannah! Welcome to Kingdom Pen! I write fantasy as well.

    Return to Me, by Lynn Austin. Set during the return of the Israelites to Jerusalem after their exile to Babylon and the MC is the prophet Zechariah! Really good story.

    I love listening to the soundtracks from Lord of the Rings. (Obviously!) Also anything by Murray Gold (Doctor Who!), Ramin Djawadi (I don’t watch Game of Thrones, but I really like the music), Howard Shore, and Rob Lane, who did the music for the John Adams miniseries on HBO.

    Well, I knew the first week of November was going to be busy and I wouldn’t get much writing done, but 486 words as of right now? Ouch. I am attempting to write every day, little by little, and I’m happy with how it’s going. If 486 words can be considered going. (Sigh) Just keep swimming…

  • Tatiana replied to the topic NaNoWriMo in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years ago

    Yay, @IvyRose! Good luck for us both! I’m so excited!

    @Amanda: Those lucky 3rd-5th graders! I wish I had something like that at their age! Good luck with your story!

    @David: You don’t have to be signed up through YWP to participate in NaNo, I hope? It would be a lot easier for me to do it independently. I don’t see why I would need to sign up to do it.

    Just curious.
