*claps hands together* So. I have finished my full-length chapter book for kids in 3rd and 4th grade. It is 5 chapters and 6k words. I realized I haven’t…[Read more]

@ashlyvye XD My sister enjoys MCR, so I tend to hear a lot of their songs.

@ashlyvye I like Centuries, Immortals, and Famous Last Words. What about you?

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic Backkkk in the forum Start HERE 4 years, 6 months ago
@ashlyvye Oh, yeah! I used to listen to TobyMac quite a lot. And there’s like 2 MCR songs and 2 FOB songs that I like as well…
Why do kids underneath the age of ten call you mom? Just wondering XD

@ashlyvye Any other bands you like? I really enjoy Falling Up; they’re a Christian alternative rock band.

@ashlyvye I really like Blasphemy, but I also enjoy Drown and Taken By Sleep. Let’s see…I got into them after we went to go watch Samson at Sight and Sound…I think that was 2016? Maybe? Wow, it’s been a long time…

@ashlyvye Uhh let me think… I have Trench and Vessel on CD, have RaB downloaded, and listened to most of their songs (Honestly NPI has some of the best songs). How deep does that make me? XD

@ashlyvye Twenty One Pilots! Have you ever listened to any of the No Phun Intended songs?

@ashlyvye 😀 Thank you!  Thats helpful.  Except, the parents would have told him (and he would have understood a great deal anyway) what was going on.

@ashlyvye That’s a very funny idea! 🙂
Wouldn’t you say a ten-year-old would be just a little smarter than that, though? If he was two, or even five, I could understand his parents not telling him what happened, but at ten that seems a bit far fetched to me. Especially since it’s not a recent thing, but the brother was gone for two whole yea…[Read more]

@daughteroftheking *waves*
@ashlyvye I think it would be really cool to have the POV character actually be the “bad guy” for most of the story, then switch sides part way through. If you switched to mostly Macx POV, I think you would lose a lot of that.
On another note, it sounds like from your description that Haylie is actually the protagonist…[Read more]

@ashlyvye I was recently talking about POVs with my fellow writer friend (Hi, @princessfoo ! *waves*) and something she pointed out about multiple POVs is that one is often more interesting than the other. So, the question is, is Macx’s POV more interesting to readers than Haylie’s? Will they wish you would switch back to Haylie’s more often, or…[Read more]

Hmm, that’s interesting about Pilgrim’s Progress. Is something like Beowulf considered pre-fantay if it came hundreds of years before Pilgrim’s Progress?
@ashlyvye I write fantasy, primarily, but currently I’m working on something which is more like sci-fi/ dystopian. Realistic science fantasy sounds really cool :D. The…[Read more]

@ashlyvye Um, let me see. Currently I’ve got going realistic fantasy, historical fiction, and science fiction. In the past I have written contemporary fiction and dystopian fanfiction.

@ashlyvye @supermonkey42 Fantasy without magic isn’t too unusual, actually. The original fantasy work, Pilgrim’s Progress doesn’t use magic; Chuck Black, who is one of the most well known new Christian fantasy authors, doesn’t use magic at all in any of his books; Frank Peretti didn’t use it in the Cooper Kids series; Gilbert Morris didn’t use it…[Read more]

Cool topic 🙂 I write a bunch of different things: historical fiction, historical fantasy (which is kind of like the contemprary fantasies that have become popular lately, think Percy Jackson, with magic in the real world, but historical). I also like dystopian and writing retellings of fairy tales and classics. I’ve dabbled in sci-fi…[Read more]

@ashlyvye It’s the opposite of a utopia, basically. Utopia is the perfect world, dystopia is the awful world. I have not read much dystopia, though, so I’m not very familiar with how it usually plays out in fiction.

SleepwalkingMK replied to the topic What genre do you write in? in the forum General Writing Discussions 6 years, 8 months ago
@ashlyvye What a cool topic! I write mostly fantasy, though I’ve begun to dabble in science fiction and realistic fiction. They don’t come as naturally to me though 😛
@supermonkey42 I agree. In my worlds, there’s “magic” in the sense that powers may exist, other creatures that I made up exist, and there are different races that I made up. But…[Read more]

@ashlyvye Awesome! I love genres. I write science fiction. Right now, my WIP trilogy is a kind of dystopian world + some space but not very extended space – aliens (no aliens) + big government + cool technology.
So yeah. Whatever that is called. 😛
