Elantris
Awesome! That’s actually one of the few I haven’t read yet. It’s the first he’s published actually. I’ve read the Novella that takes place after the book, but it doesn’t give much context, despite being on the same planet. You’ll have to tell me how it is, unless I beat you, but I still have 4 other books from him I’m trying to…[Read more]

It’s sooo good, and one of the few times Silmarillion characters actually get a happy ending. And even then, it’s depressing.
It’s really cool when a story can end that way, being able to have a lasting impact on us, in a bitter-sweet sort of way. I’ll have to look more into my Tolkien lore!
If I had purposely developed these for the sto…

I, too, agree with what Jonas said. 😄

I also second everything Jonas has said, so I don’t have much to add, but here’s some of my thoughts.
It really comes down to many factors involved with the character’s development if there is any (a static character is still a valid character), the reader’s degree of investment in that character, the impact the character would continue…[Read more]

Shall do. (Which stories do you know? Please tell me you know Beren and Lúthien, it has the best twist of fairy tale tropes ever, and I will die on that hill.)
I know bits and pieces. Tolkien does a lot of tales of the mortal man and fair elf maiden in the history of Middle Earth, so I get them mixed up, but I know that much.
To be ho…

One thing to consider is that a character’s death should mean something. I know this isn’t exactly what you were asking for, but I think it’s related. So in this scene, two MC get attacked by wendigos (nice to meet someone else who knows they’re a thing btw lol) and you feel that they have to die, or else their escape would feel like De…[Read more]

What’s wrong with the characters dying because they just ran into the monsters?

OK, good to know. (I’d like to say I’m desensitized to depressing books after reading the Silmarillion, but it’s probably untrue, lol.)
I haven’t read the Silmarillion, but I know the majority of the stories, and it’s a very different kind of dark and cynical, but feel free to look into it, I still recommend the first to anyone.

I pronouce genre as GEN-ear and puree as PUR-ee. I do pronounce caramel correctly though! Which is odd considering me. I also have some kind of accent that my best friend notified me of this week. She has no idea what it is though.
Have you read C. S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy?
Yes, though not the last one all the way through…he lost me o…[Read more]

Wait…I just saw you like purple and blue…Purple is my fAVORITE COLOR! Ever since I can remember.
I adore cats too, but horses steal my heart. I own seven cats at the moment.
I like to write fantasy and sci-fi. A historical fiction one day, but not yet. My WIP is sci-fi.

Sorry I’m late to the greeting party.
Call me Ru or Ruee. I’m a stubborn blue-eyed girl who has way too many characters, and story ideas swirling around in her head.
Questions…
1 what genre do you like to write?
2 how do you pronounce the word ‘pecans?’
3 do you like horses? If so, what’s your favorite gait?
4 what’s your WIP…[Read more]

No problem, I love explaining my story to people! (And I have been wanting to read Dune for months now, is it any good?)
I can recommend the first book to anyone with the time, but it really depends on what you want after that. The first book is much more of a hero’s journey with clear good and evil, but after that, the books become…[Read more]

Yes, it’s somewhat of a passion of mine.
Cool! Do you intend to embody that in your own writing?
Yes, same. I would like to try a story with soft worldbuilding, but it would take a lot of careful planning.
Yeah, it would be interesting to give a go. If I was ever to try it, I would probably blend it with hard worldbuilding, where there’s p…[Read more]

Yay, we have another Sara(h)!
But you spell your name wrong, lol. The correct way to spell it is actually Sara. haha!
(If you couldn’t tell, I am joking. Obviously, there’s no right or wrong way to spell it. I probably just ruined my own joke, but I can’t risk offending people on KP. I want to be friends with everyone, lol)
I’m going…[Read more]

Mae govannen, Euodia! Elen sÃla lúmenn’ omentielvo. Yes, I looove Tolkien. I enjoy watching the movies (as long as I’m allowed to rant about everything wrong with them, lol), but the books are my favorite (especially books on the First Age). I’ve read LOTR, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion (my favorite!), Unfinished Tales, and I’m working o…

The Space Trilogy is sci-fi with a dash of faerie (and some King Arthur, or at least Merlin). Do not ask me how it works so well, but it does. Brandon Sanderson is definitely on my TBR list.
I’ve only read the first two books of the space trilogy, but I liked them both. Brandon Sanderson is one of my favorite authors, so I highly r…[Read more]

I of course read Tolkien, and I recently picked up The Fionavar Tapestry (which was good, a bit explicit sometimes, but not so bad that I couldn’t r…

😄 So, not yet.. I plan to animate my stories, but usually I make my characters sing to my favorite songs.
Cool!
I like third person a lot, but first person is cool too. I’m trying to write some of my books in first, but I have bit of a hard time… 😅
Lol… I always make the characters first.
