@rose-everdeen AAAHHHFGGG I’m really sorry I haven’t responded in so long, this reply was sitting open and written in a tab on my laptop for a week and a half, I’m just now hitting send.
Oh YES Alyss was so sorely neglected, she deserved SO much better!! Honestly, most of the female characters had so much more potential imo…
Thank you, this is very true. I didn’t really realize this, but it was pointed out to me that all the main RA girls (Alyss, Pauline, Cassandra, Maddie, Jenny) are all blonde, with roughly the same build… there was a bit lacking in RA girls for sure lol.
Oh awesome, I’ve read all those too! *high fives* Ahaha, Erak’s Ransom is my absolute favorite book XD Though, I can’t argue with the Halt’s Peril choice, that’s a very close second!
Thanks! I really enjoyed Erak’s Ransom, but I was one of the crowd who was like, emotional when John Flannagan skipped Will’s years as an Apprentice to go straight to the Sorcerer of the North. I think he was trying to make up for that time jump with Erak’s Ransom, so when I was reading it, it still kinda felt like filler. But Tug. Oh. My. Holy. ApPlebUtter. That poor horse, and his relationship with Will, it was beautiful.
I still sometimes wish Erak’s Ransom had been written before Sorcerer, because we missed on some of that grown affection between Will and Tug, but they fit together well, even with the jumps.I’ve read The Brotherband books too! I have… some thoughts on them, but they were definitely fun to read!
Cool! I haven’t yet, would you recommend reading them as a part of the series?
Oh YES Halt’s Peril was probably the most emotional book in the series, and I love it for that!!!
*sobbs* nooOoOoOoo
Ughhh YESSS!!! I can’t agree with you enough. The first book was… a choice, but certainly not bad. After that, it all just kept going downhill. I genuinely didn’t really enjoy the latter RR books, they barely felt like RA books at all, which is super sad. Same thing happened with Brotherband actually, around the same time, which was sad too…
Yes, this is sad. I think he wanted to stop at the Royal Ranger, which would’ve been fine, but just kept going. And they began to feel like–especially recently–they’re made for a younger audience almost, less complications, and some more filters, unlike the sorcery or philosophy in the previous books. (but, perhaps for the drinking in book one and the brief disappointing romance in the following two books)
Girrlll me too XD She’s my most unhinged protagonist and I love her for that XD A brief, nonexhaustive list of exploits: She has kicked almost every important villain, she has committed arson three separate times, and she once bit the main villain. I… don’t even have an explanation. She’s unbelievably fun to write XD
Yeesss the SSAAASSSS I love characters like this XD especially when they’re young
It’s actually kind of sad when she finally has her moment of realization that this isn’t going to have a completely happy ending. Call it a disillusionment arc I suppose.
This sounds like a really cool, I love the personality potential 🙂
I use Krita, which is AMAZING and also free! I’ve tried other programs but this is my favorite! I also use a pressure-sensitive drawing tablet with my laptop, it’s way cheaper than a display tablet!
Ok, thanks! I recently got a laptop that’s screen can flip 360 degrees, and it has a great touch-sensitive screen, so I could try digital art sometime. I used to use Autodesk, but I lost the download file for it not long after my first sketch. (I can only assume it’s the jealous haunting ghost of my old pc. (obv He’s sensitive that I switched to a newer model); )

These are so cool! I love the positions.
I’d love character art! (If, ofc it’s no inconvenience)
I suppose you’ll need descriptions, XD
My mc Violet is abt 14 years old, 5 feet 4in tall, big doe–milk chocolate brown wavy hair coffee blend eyes, round face shape, Caucasian-lightly tanned-skin tone, friendly disposition, often wears long dark cloaks, otherwise comfortable clothes, pastel tops and dark pants. Oh, and she wears a blue ribbon woven into her hair.~I’m not totally sure what other information you need, lol hope that’s good enough XD
She’s not a super creative character design, but I like her 🙂 Ty!
@queen_of_alvastia I’m late… XD
I do have an account! Though rn I’m just using it casually for 80% memes likely, but soon I want to create character moodboards, maybe some wiring tips–things like that.
I love your ideas and boards–oh my land is that a white lion!!
@freedomwriter76
Aww, no, your book synopsis-es are poetry 😀
Oh epic, I love RA too!! Who’s your favorite character and what was your favorite book?
YEs! It’s amazing!! Goodness, favorite characters.
It has been a little while since I’ve read them all, but I really used to like Alyss. From what I remember, though, her character kinda fell flat like, just over halfway through the series, so I wanna say Halt or Tug–a character around those lines.
I’ve only read through the first twelve books, the prequel series, and ~most~ of the Royal Ranger books. I have not read the Brotherband Chronicles, but I’ve been told they’re very good. I will stand by all of these books (but for Erak’s ransom, perhaps) are necessary to the series. Excessive in number, but I love them XDMy favorite book is for sure Halt’s Peril, but I also love the Burning Bridge. (it’s been almost three years since I last read the Burning Bridge, but I still have dreams about Evelyn and Will trapped in Skandia ;-;) Halt’s peril is so heart wrenchingly saaaaddd D: but I liked how the book was developed and the *oh* *drama* was beautiful! Both books were the kind that you’d read in two days, with hardly a break for food, and never get exhausted.
The Royal Ranger series kind of dropped off, like the first book was good, but it felt like John Flanagan was writing for the money past that point, so the books weren’t up to his normal standards, I wanna say. His writing style didn’t even feel like his own at most points, I think that’s a little sad, but that’s just my opinion.
How about yours? What were your favorite books and characters? How much have you read?
Liorah, my arson princess from GB, would probably like a coffee shop somewhere, playing chess with someone and eating way too many sweets.
XD I love this character.
Ophelia, my feather-headed ballerina from MoS, would love a cute vintage ice cream shop in the middle of a bustling mall or something like that.
Ooo, good answer.
Liorah would love true crime and thrillers! I can imagine her reading under the covers with a flashlight and screaming in self-inflicted fear when her brother opens the door to check if she’s still awake XD
Oh my goodness lol
Ophelia would love romance books, no matter whether they’re good or not XD Especially the light, cute high-school romances. Ophelia is so funny to me because she starts out thinking she’s vaguely in that genre, even though the story is actually a thriller/murder mystery XD It takes her a while to figure that out XD I love characters who seem to be in the wrong genre, they’re so funny to me.
That’s adorable. I can totally see her crushing on other characters XD
Oh I love toast, who doesn’t! Hmm… Strawberry jam and butter is always the best! But I have a personal deep love of Nutella on toast XD
*sighs* yyeeesss. Nuetella is so delicious oh my goodness.
Hmm… Only if they’re striped XD
I’ll have to check if that’ll match my carpet… XD
I love your art! That’s amazing! I don’t think I could attempt digital. What art software do you use?

*Shimmers into forum* *chucks multi-colored sprinkles into the air* *casually sips cold latte(no ice, extra sweet cold foam)*
Hullo there. Welcome to KP, pleasure to meet you.
Your WIP sounds very interesting, I haven’t read as many paradoxes in a single sentence like that in a while XD
Medieval period books are one of my favorite genres 😀 I really like books like Rangers Apprentice, or Falling Kingdoms.
Love the question. In general, I think my writing would be a rich brownish ivory color, perhaps with some dark red, and light oranges and yellows. For my WIP, I wanna say all of that, with white and pale teal-ish blue, like sage.
*SO*
*questions:*- If your MC had an imaginary eutopia hideaway what would it be like? (I.E. a beach where they could chill alone, a coffee shop filled with enthusiastic ppl, a rainy forest full of little critters etc.)
- What do you think your MC’s favorite books would be?
- What do you put on your toast? (If you like to eat toast :p)
- Do socks belong on chair feet?
Ty.
(I really like your name, btw :])

Oh, for sure XD
“No great mind has ever existed without a touch of madness”
Hullo there! I’m Anatra (please don’t judge me too much in the future if I cut off responding to a thread, my brain has probably run away to daydream XD)
I really like your name! 🙂
You’re learning Japanese? That’s so cool!
Konnichiwwa! Ohayo!
(That’s it. Basically all I know XD)Are you self-taught or do you have a tutor or program or something? Right now I’m learning Korean and I think it’s really fun to figure out. I’m SO going to Korea some day (lol not exactly some day soon). Do you watched any anime or anything like that?
Oh my goodness yes just *try* to keep up with all the beautiful shenanigans that happen here XD
Oh, I see now.
I really like that! Goodness if I could do shapes like those XD
If I’m doing something modeled after a specific thing (like a movie character or animal) then yea, I prefer reference images. But for something in my head, I don’t usually. So I’m not at all sure how I’d draw my human oc’s XD
Aww, Nyx B )
Lol
Do you use reference pictures often for drawing characters?
Awww thank you!
(Do ignore the pencil marks XD)
Absolutely 😃
One of the many artistry mistakes we make XD
Here’s a Chinese partition screen that I painted for my mother. (It’s like 5 ft tall, took so long ;-; )I do have a few regrets, but I think I like it. (Some of the edges don’t align b/c the sheets became wrinkled and stretched… might’ve been my fault a little bit hehe but it’s okay.)

@Joy-caroline
: ) for sure, anytime
Why have I never considered drawing my oc’s? This is brilliant XD
These are so cool! Aww your deer’s beautiful. I really like your art styles : )
Your water colors look very good. I always forget to use the proper water color paper whenever I draw, so I end up with something that looks like its trying to–very wrinkly– double over on itself
