#ProtectSebDecember 22, 2022 at 7:51 am #125327XD Okay, okay, here’s a writing question.
I have a child character (at thirteen years), Christopher, who completely falls for a girl while at camp (yes, camp 😂) with his family. Clara’s about the only other kid he’ll hang out with other than his brother. His parents don’t mind, because they are friends with Clara’s parents and know both kids are responsible enough to explore the campsite by themselves. I want it to be obvious that they’re ‘made for each other,’ and they’ll end up married in the far, far future, but is it weird to be laying the ground work that early? I feel like it’s needed, because whales riding explorers don’t land all that often. Oh, and is a couple visits a year enough to keep two kids close? I know a guy who I only see once a year, and we’re still like cousins. But that’s been since birth.

December 22, 2022 at 12:02 pm #125353So to answer ur first question, I don’t think it’s weird to lay the groundwork that early (if I’m interpreting ur questions right, your asking due to their ages, correct?)
I have two characters in my series, staring at the ages of 11 and 13 who later end up liking each other and in the very far future even get married, so no I don’t think it’s too early to lay the groundwork as long as it’s kept innocent, obviously XD, starting as a friendship, that then grows slowly perhaps into a crush, and you lay the groundwork to let the reader subtly know that “Okay, one day these two will definitely end up together.”
As for the second question, I think as long as you show their relationship as friends is continuously growing in that time, it would work. Maybe they get each other’s phone number to text/FaceTime while they’re not at camp. Maybe they write letters like pen pals, or emails. Maybe they chat online to keep up with each other, etc. that would make it a bit more realistic.
Hope this helps!

Good job, @felicity, getting everyone back on track!! One day maybe one of us will make a website for…well, what we were talking about here XD.
And….It’s probably gonna be me XDJK. Or not. XD#HugRikerSquad
December 22, 2022 at 1:38 pm #125384LOL
that would be hilarious
It just be like a website where girls swoon about their crushes XD
I’d be horribly embarrassed if anyone else found out about it though 😳
I mean, theoretically, that’s a really embarrassing thing to do 😂 but we do it here anyways because we don’t care XD

December 22, 2022 at 4:01 pm #125411And the best part is, we can analyse these boy’s actions and romantic gestures, recording them ever faithfully to use for literary purposes…
Because we’re writers…
No other reason…

December 22, 2022 at 10:15 pm #125458Until @whalekeeper asked her question, I was going to say, “No, actually, we’d much rather rave about our crushes . . . never mind this is a writing website not a romance one . . .” LOL
Or maybe:

Oh yeah, totally! XD

@everybodywhowashavingsomuchfun
ur…sorry…I feel like I was a party pooper.
I am cautious and overly observant of any sort of rules. But yeah if all that was “research” for our writing, than…you all have a very good point there.
😂
He must increase, but I must decrease.
December 23, 2022 at 8:12 am #125492Pff, you are not a party pooper ❤ Talking about romantic subplots is basically the same subject – only less chaotic. We can easily return to the rules and have the same amount of fun.
Ah, yes, life is our research.

December 23, 2022 at 8:17 am #125493Wow, at this point in my life, I am literally dreaming up whole stories. Like, remembering plot points and certain phrases and everything. Last night I dreamed up a romance between a girl and a fairy king with the most enormous moustache…

December 23, 2022 at 3:54 pm #125582Speaking of romance, have you watched the Princess Bride?
There’s a line in there that goes like this:
“You mock my pain”
“Life IS pain.”
Well, here’s my play on that line:
Me: You mock my research
You: Life IS research.
😂😂😂
Wow, that dream sounds EPIC!
I always love dreams like that.
