For some reason I didn’t get notified for your response, but yes, it is 😀

July 26, 2018 at 10:44 pm #75641@seekjustice Nice. Those books are great.
@valtmy I did grant you access to the document, but I don’t see you there. I hope you got it. 😉"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
July 26, 2018 at 10:51 pm #75642I have a rather large collection of them 😛

July 26, 2018 at 11:00 pm #75643@seekjustice So do we. I think we have almost the entire collection, actually. That and Henty’s books form the largest sets of books in our library. Which YWAM book is your favorite?
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
July 26, 2018 at 11:12 pm #75644I think I might have had them all at one time, but I haven’t bought any new ones in a while and they’ve published quite a few more.
How can I choose just one though? Probably my favourite is “Betty Greene” but I also love “Nate Saint” and “Rachel Saint” and “Jacob Deshazer”. I assume you’ve read those ones?

July 26, 2018 at 11:20 pm #75645@seekjustice We get the two or three new ones each year, keeping our collection up to date. However, I believe there were a couple we deliberately didn’t buy because we already had multiple biographies of the person.
Yes, I’ve read those. 🙂 Actually, I think Betty Green was my least favorite of the women biographies. 😛 A few of the ones I liked best when I was younger were Mary Slessor, Lilian Trasher, and Ida Scudder. In recent years my favorites have been Jim Elliot and Elizabeth Elliot, which go with your Saints. 😉 Have you read the Elliot biographies?

July 26, 2018 at 11:28 pm #75646Have you got the one on John Flynn? I read that one only recently, though I’ve got other biographies on him.
I have the Elisabeth Elliot book, but I much prefer reading her books, so I never bought Jim Elliot.
Why did you dislike Betty? I like Mary Slessor too. I haven’t read Lilian Trasher, but she sounds interesting. I remember reading Ida Scudder but I’m pretty certain I don’t own that one.

July 27, 2018 at 12:00 am #75647@seekjustice I haven’t been doing a whole lot of reading lately, and haven’t read many of the newest ones we have gotten, but I do believe I’ve seen that one among the collection. You say it’s good?
Ah, that’s sort of how I feel about Amy Carmichael. Have you read any of her books?
It has been forever since I read it, and my eleven-year-old perception could have been completely wrong, but I believe the reason I didn’t like that one as well was because Betty felt to me like more of a feminist and less womanly than I appreciated. Though I liked Mary Slessor, and she certainly wasn’t one for conventions, so I believe my logic was somewhat mixed.
I’m pretty sure if I read it again I’d have a very different perspective, since now, knowing more of history, I know how necessary it was for women to do those things during the war. (I do hope I’m remembering it correctly, but correct me if I am thinking of someone completely different from Betty Greene. 😛 ) I was a lot more old fashioned at that point, too, and the ’40s culture felt much too modern to someone who preferred the ruffles, layers, and restrictions of Victorian and Edwardian eras.
I should really go back and read it again to get a new perspective. 😉

July 27, 2018 at 12:26 am #75648It is good! Especially if you want to learn more about Australia.
No, I haven’t read any of her books, but I have Elisabeth Elliot’s book about her and I’ve read a bit of her poetry.
I thought you might say something like that. I’m very much against modern feminism but I never found Betty to be particularly feminist, though she definitely went against Western gender roles in a major way (I say western gender roles, because while she was doing things that women at the time considered scandalous, I think Western gender roles often don’t match up with God’s gender roles, if you understand what I’m saying).
I love the fact that you described yourself as more oldfashioned then. By most people’s standards you’re still oldfashioned now 😛

July 27, 2018 at 12:43 am #75649@seekjustice Sounds great! I’ll have to see if I can get the chance to read it.
I haven’t read any of Amy Carmichael’s books in a while, but I absolutely loved Mimosa!
Well, I think if I read it now I might have a different impression than I had when I was younger. 😉
Haha! 😀 I? Old fashioned? Why on earth would you say that? 😛 But yeah, that’s why I said “more old fashioned” back then, rather than simply “old fashioned.” I like being old fashioned. *grins happily”

July 27, 2018 at 12:54 am #75650Definitely 🙂 It was really fun to read!
I used to think that I was old-fashioned too, because I have rather “backward” ideas, especially for a woman living nowadays. But I think if I went back in time to live I wouldn’t be any less frustrated. 😛

July 27, 2018 at 1:10 am #75651@seekjustice That’s why I think the 50s or 60s would be the best times to travel back and live in. They’re far enough forward that we’d have sufficient enough technology so the culture shock wouldn;t be too great, and just at the right crossing point where women were free to do most things, but were still expected to act like ladies and the moral values of society were still high without being oppressive.
(Though I wouldn’t mind living in the 1910s lower upper class, either. 😉 )
I’m going to go now, so, goodnight!

July 27, 2018 at 9:05 am #75653Hey guys sorry for vanishing again!
@catwing Yes, my noon is your midnight 😛
@rochellaine Yes I’ve read the doc and left some comments. Take it as a not-so-subtle reminder that I’m still waiting for your comments on my doc. ðŸ˜
@seekjustice I forgot to ask but am I going to be one of your beta readers for your second draft of SFI?July 27, 2018 at 9:37 am #75654@valtmy Thanks! I’ll have a look in a bit.
Hm, I thought I gave you some comments here on the forums. Did I not? I guess you still want more detailed comments in the document? Okay, I’ll be on a long car ride today, so I should be able to reread it and actually comment this time.
Thanks for reminding me. I often forget about something unless I do it the minute I think about it. 😛
