@catwing, Mulan has always been a family favorite in my house. Probably because it was loosely Chinese. (the girls all wear Japanese clothing) (the customs were Korean/Mongolian/Chinese)
@seekjustice, whenever I watched Disney I usually enjoyed the fighting and hilarious mix ups. I personally liked the Disney Robin Hood (with animals) and Aristocats more. It wasn’t until recently that I actually started watching all the princess ones with my younger sisters. The only ones that I ever really wanted to watch were Beauty and the Beast and Mulan.Nice addition @rochellaine. and adding onto what you said about love at first sight, my grandad claims to have fallen in love with my grandma when he first met her officially (he already knew a little about her personality beforehand)

Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 25, 2018 at 11:22 pm #75581@seekjustice *grins* Of course. (But isn’t that a chore? ;P)
I only read part of Peter Pan recently and I read fairy books when I was younger… I got distracted and had to return Peter Pan. I didn’t really care for it. (So the large fay huh?)
You do kill off quite a few characters…IMMA KAPEEFER! Til we're old and gray!

Well, I’m not against Disney, I believe half the claims against them are just a bit weak and exaggerated. I do know that I’ve never liked them, but I also know that I was homeschooled and thus grew up away from the pressure of what other girls liked and at a very young age I knew what I liked and I was rather rebellious (Against society, not my parents 😀 ) and so I invested time in what I loved, and my parents supported that in me and even encouraged it, since my mother is a lot like me!
And a point against the Disney haters, here:
“If a more real, happy ending [to Beauty and the Beast] were to have happened, Belle would have escaped, the Beast’s final rose petal would have fallen and Gaston would have ended up with Belle”.
I fail to see how being married to Gaston could possibly be better than being married to the Beast.
@alia I love Mulan! It has been my favourite since I was about twelve. I love the more unique setting and the fact that it revolved around family and friends more than it did around romance. 🙂INFP Queen of the Kingdom commander of an army of origami cranes and a sabre from Babylon.
July 25, 2018 at 11:26 pm #75583@alia I think people nowadays (including myself) are too worried about finding the “perfect” match to ever be willing to chance love at first sight. I think it used to happen a lot more than it does now, because people were willing to take risks and know they could love each other in spite of faults, rather than needing someone without faults before allowing themselves to fall in love.

July 25, 2018 at 11:27 pm #75584I’m not a Peter Pan fan by any means, but yes, I always thought stories about The Green Knight and the Swan Knight were very cool!
I know. it probably comes from a lack of wholesome Disney films.

July 25, 2018 at 11:33 pm #75585@seekjustice, I get so tired explaining that Belle didn’t have Stockholm Syndrome. But people don’t want to acknowledge it. Honestly Belle is my favorite Disney princess because I relate so much to her.
I love Mulan, but my family makes so many jokes while watching it because it is not culturally correct at all.
@rochellaine, I have a hard time making friends, so I know it won’t happen to me. But I agree, movies push it so much that if you find the right guy/girl then you can fix them and the faults will go away and they will become your dream guy/girl.on a side note, while writing my reply to you I was trying to come up with a name for a new character and I couldn’t figure out why the name Chara was stuck in my head.

Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 25, 2018 at 11:34 pm #75586@seekjustice, @catwing, honestly, before I even knew the original story of Peter Pan, the Disney Peter always freaked me out, and once I found out the real story I took it as proof that my fear was justified

Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 25, 2018 at 11:35 pm #75587As I recall…
Not love at first sight ~ Belle(Beauty and the Beast [old and new]), Rapunzel, Jasmine? (Aladdin. But he may have loved her at first sight I think), Anna (Frozen), Giselle (Enchanted),
Love at first sight ~ Cinderella, Ariel (Little Mermaid),
I don’t remember… Aurora (Sleeping Beauty),
There’s probably a few missing… Who am I missing…IMMA KAPEEFER! Til we're old and gray!
July 25, 2018 at 11:39 pm #75588@catwing, I think Aurora was, once she got over her fright. I’m pretty sure it was on Phillip’s side though.
Mulan: no, Snow White: can’t remember (my least favorite Disney princess movie)
can’t think of any others

Kapeefer til we're old and greyJuly 25, 2018 at 11:39 pm #75589@seekjustice I dislike Disney because most of their films revolve around magic, showing magic on the “good side” and getting kids to believe there is such a thing as good magic. For that reason, Snow White is my favorite Disney princess film, because it shows magic as completely evil, and none on the good side.
As for Mulan, I usually run, screaming in horror, from female empowerment films. 😛 However, since Mulan is based on a true story, which I had already heard of before I heard of Mulan, I took a chance, read the synopsis, watched a few clips, and found it wasn’t too bad. Except for the pointless dragon. 😛 (I do believe it’s wrong for women to dress in men’s clothes and to go to battle, but it’s history, so that doesn’t matter as much.)

July 25, 2018 at 11:39 pm #75590I messed up your tag in my above message!
@alia Me too, I’ve tried explaining that before. I think two examples of Disney characters who actually do have it would be Quasimodo and Rapunzel, but definitely not Belle. And again, me too! I have only a general idea of Ancient China, but I still know its pretty inaccurate!
I think you’re right, but I do have to wonder…if you’re not judging a person on their personality, with no knowledge of their faults, their strengths or their relationship with God/their family/their friends, etc. What are you judging them on?

July 25, 2018 at 11:39 pm #75591@Alia I got as far as him taking them flying and them being terribly hungry and he would wander off literally forgetting they existed. It was ruining the movie for me.
I guess the movie version is still a bit strange.IMMA KAPEEFER! Til we're old and gray!
July 25, 2018 at 11:42 pm #75592@alia How could I forget Snow White? But I can’t remember her encounter with the prince…
IMMA KAPEEFER! Til we're old and gray!
July 25, 2018 at 11:44 pm #75593I don’t see Mulan as a female empowerment film, though certainly people like to claim it as such, rather I see it as a story about love that is so strong you would sacrifice your life for it. In the film, she goes to war for her father, in the original story/history its for her little brother, and I know, or at least would like to think, that I love both my father and my littlest brother enough to go to war and risk my life for them.
@catwing @alia I think Snow White is definitely love at first sight. I remember Snow White singing by the well and the prince looks over the wall, because its such beautiful singing, and scares her, and she runs away. I don’t remember any more though.INFP Queen of the Kingdom commander of an army of origami cranes and a sabre from Babylon.
July 25, 2018 at 11:48 pm #75594@seekjustice I count “first sight” as first conversation or so. You can tell millions about a person’s personality from the way they dress, stand, and walk, and you can tell some about their beliefs and morals from the location you find them.
…honestly, if a guy came up to me and sang me a song like Phillip and Florian did, I’d have a pretty rough time not falling for him! 😛
But seriously, of course it’s most important to find out they’re a Christian first. But you can get a pretty good guess in some settings, And first sight doesn’t have to be first knowledge. You could have been told by your friends about someone, then fall for them when you do meet them, after knowing a lot about them.
@alia Hahahaha! 😛
@valtmy I forgot to answer you. Um…yes, Bathshua is still pretty miserable, poor thing! 🙁"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
