@seekjustice You replied to @valtmy’s post, but tagged me. π

July 25, 2018 at 12:20 am #75534Whoops! I literally write your name on autopilot now π
@valtmy sorry! See above π (I accidentally tagged Rochellaine instead of you!)INFP Queen of the Kingdom commander of an army of origami cranes and a sabre from Babylon.
July 25, 2018 at 12:23 am #75535But lots of Disney and YA fiction have parents that are “dead already” so that’s not an excuse. That still counts as killing so your parent body count is three at least. π
Haha I never minded the fact that there was not much opera singing in Phantom because that’s not really my cup of tea. But I think for the casting of Carlotta in the musicals they usually find someone with more of an operatic voice?
July 25, 2018 at 12:30 am #75536Fine, three. π
And yeah, Carlotta usually has a much more operatic voice, though I don’t whether she’s usually played by women with operatic training.

July 25, 2018 at 12:31 am #75537@seekjustive Oh, I don’t know.Β I thought of a couple when writing that, but my brain is mixed up now and I can only remember one:
Rose Marie (1936) Is a musical about an opera singer who goes to the wilds of Canada in search of her brother.Β A huge climax near the end of the film involves her having a mental breakdown during an opera performance.
There are more, but I’m drawing a blank. π
@valtmy Well, for me it’s not whether I like it or not, it’s whether it’s accurate.Β Like when they make period films and decide to make the costumes inaccurate because the real clothing of the period wasn’t pretty. πΒ Anyway, they’re supposed to think Christine’s voice is amazing and perfect for the opera, so Carlotta doesn’t matter in that case.Β Make sense? Or am I just too picky? π Quite possibly the latter."Sylvester - Sylvester!"
July 25, 2018 at 12:37 am #75538Oh dear. I hope you will never read up on Korean history else you will find all sorts of historical inaccuracies when you beta read my WIP. π
It’s OK. You still have a far lower parent body count compared to me. π
July 25, 2018 at 12:38 am #75539@seekjustice tagging issues.Β I’m having them too.Β See above if you haven’t. π

July 25, 2018 at 12:42 am #75540You’re a parent-murderer??? *gasps of shock* π
Maybe you’re just picky, but me too. Unless I really like something, as in the case of Anastasia. However, you would hate The Greatest Showman, because my biggest complaint with it is how historically inaccurate it is, including, but no limited to, the fact that there is an opera singer (Jenny Lind, have you heard of her?) who sings, not just opera-inspired musical songs, but a pop song. If that is not wrong, I don’t know what is π

July 25, 2018 at 12:44 am #75541@valtmy Haha! π Don’t worry, I don’t think I will.Β But yeah, that’s me.Β I get so horribly annoyed if the actors say a slang word that wasn’t invented yet, (talking about Newsies, @seekjustice ) if the skirts are two inches too short or too long, (can’t always tell, except for a few specific periods) or especially if the characters act like modern people sent back in time, rebelling against the way of life, rather than accepting it, like normal people born in that time would. (like, every modern his-fic ever… π )
π Yeah, if you’re not historically accurate, don’t tell me. π

July 25, 2018 at 12:47 am #75542@seekjustice Was that during a performance, or was that when she was alone with her friends?Β Because if it was the former, I completely agree, but if the latter, I don’t care a bit. π

July 25, 2018 at 12:50 am #75543Oh, are the slang words theΒ onlyΒ historically inaccurate thing about Newsies? π
There’s a place for rebellion against the time period though, because the people history remembers are the people who were ahead of their time, or who actively rebelled against some bad part of society, but I definitely agree that the girls, specifically,Β alwaysΒ act like modern girls. Urgh…
It was during her concert performances, there’s two of them, and they’re the only times she sings at all.

July 25, 2018 at 12:51 am #75544All right π
But as my story explicitly takes place in a fictional version of historical Korea and not Joseon, Goryeo, Silla, Baekje or any of the real Korean kingdoms, does that make any historical inaccuracies OK? π
Yes, I am a parent-murderer. Is it that shocking? I told you that my WIPΒ isn’t a romantic comedy. π
You have killed three parents across two books. As of my writing, I have killed eight. So far. And that’s only for the parents of the main cast of characters. And that number does not include grandparents.
July 25, 2018 at 12:53 am #75546I would not enjoy being a parent in your book π π π

July 25, 2018 at 1:02 am #75547Haha. Don’t worry. It’s not just the parents. I don’t think any of my characters enjoy being written by me.Β π
July 25, 2018 at 1:03 am #75548@seekjustice Not by a long shot!!!! π I was just using that as an example.Β Actually the most noticeable inaccuracy is that the real newsboys’ average age was probably around ten or twelve, so the sixteen- to twenty-year-old guys seem quite strange.
…but they’re good dancers! π
@valtmy Actually, since yours is a parody in the first place, I really don’t care how historically inaccurate it is.Β In fact, the more, the better, possibly. πWell, goodnight. π Hope to see you tomorrow!
