      @catwing Poor Gary!

      @rochellaine
      Phoebus is also the epitome of abusive man ๐Ÿ™ Victor Hugo was just really into murder (he’d be even more frightening to meet than me!) Anyway, that’s my rant for the day on why I didn’t like the book. I also just don’t really like the gothic horror genre. I didn’t likeย The Phantom of the Operaย much either when I read that.

          @seekjustice No, I definitely wouldn’t want to read it.ย  I have no idea what the original characters were like.ย  I just know Phoebus was really nice in the ’23 version, and that in both versions Esmerelda was an adult.

          Maybe you would enjoy the “cleaned up and adjusted” versions better. ๐Ÿ˜›

          Well, I don’t like the Phantom anyway, so no argument there. ๐Ÿ˜‰ *whispers* all the Christines are awful, and nobody sings anything resembling opera so why is it even called “of the opera?” ๐Ÿ˜› (and there’s my rant. ๐Ÿ˜‰

              Maybe I would, I don’t know ๐Ÿ˜€

              I’m listening to the Phantom of the Opera currently. ๐Ÿ˜› But I do have to point out that he’s the phantom of theย operaย house, which doesn’t necessarily mean that it has to be anย opera, just that its set in an opera house.

                I see, but…
                Gary died in a car crash. A gun would not help him.
                Kay’s parents (as another example of my killed characters) nearly wrecked by a truck. Her dad went to check on them and they pulled a gun on him. And there was at least three of them. I’m working on the details…
                Alex’s parents had swords, but they were distracted protecting Alex from monsters.

                It appears I have a few killed off parents… But for different reasons.

                  I’m very proud of myself, I’ve only ever killed two parent characters!

                    @catwing Haha.ย  As someone who allows mainly the parents to die, but saves the children alive, wouldn’t that make you similar to Disney? ๐Ÿ˜›

                    @seekjustice
                    Don’t they put on what’s supposed to be an operatic production? The costumes certainly nod to opera costumery.

                    Not killing parents does not make the deaths less, it only makes them different. ๐Ÿ˜‰

                      They do, for about a total of ten minutes ๐Ÿ˜› And that’s heaps enough opera for me!

                      That’s true, but at least I’m not being so clichรฉ. isn’t Young adult fiction notorious for killing off all the parents? All my characters have at least one live parent (but not all the parents have live children…)

                            @seekjustice I prefer musical theater to opera (usually) as well, but I also am a stickler for accuracy.ย  The entire story revolves around the fact that Christine has a beautiful, classically trained operatic voice, and that she sings in the opera.ย  Therefore the fact that they cast women with obviously Broadway style voices to sing songs that barely resemble opera in the slightest really, really annoys me.ย  I don’t care what type of songs or voices they have for the rest of the musical, since it’s a musical, but for the opera scene they should sing opera, like they do in every other musical about the opera. (Ah me, the music nerd is appearing. ๐Ÿ˜› )

                            Uh, yeah.ย  Actually, a few of my children have had deceased parents, too. ๐Ÿ˜‰

                              Two as in Chessy’s birth mother and Justice’s father? But Justice’s father was kind of a villain as well so does he really count?

                              So since you’ve made sure to create parents who are alive, do you think you have made them useful too? ๐Ÿ˜›

                                Yep ๐Ÿ˜€ I don’t know, he’s definitely horrible, but he’s still a father. Oh, and technically, Zac’s father is dead too, but…that’s minor and I didn’t kill him. He was just dead already.

                                I don’t know, I hope so. Though I’m not sure that Justice’s mother, or Sapphire’s mother, really count as useful.

                                  But Christine actually only sings in an opera in one scene (The Point of No Return), the other opera scene her part is silent. And people get killed over the fact that her part is silent too.

                                  Just out of curiosity, how many musicalsย are there about opera?
