@godlyfantasy12 Oh. You doin’ any writing now?
December 8, 2020 at 2:40 pm #87734@gracie-j not at the moment. So my plan is I’m gonna edit every five chapters (unless I just have the urge to edit lol!) I think that’s a good number to keep things flowing and so I don’t have to edit giant chunks

@godlyfantasy12 That’s a terrific idea! Usually, I’ll edit every chapter as soon as I finish it, then go over the whole manuscript once I’ve completed it. Keep me posted on how things go!
December 12, 2020 at 1:34 pm #87818Oooh, this thread sounds fun 🙂
I know I’m a little late, but I’ll dive in for a second and ramble about my MC.
*Ahem
My heroine is Caira Watson.
She’s super studious, introverted, (a little bossy), and loves coffee as much as I do. She’s 14 yrs. old, but she’s been conserved in ice for the last 1,000 years ((and because of that, she lost her memory)). Caira finds out she’s one of the few people left in the world with special powers (people don’t have magic anymore because of something long time ago). She’s not the type of heroine you’d expect would save the world, and she doesn’t know how to use her powers in the beginning/adjust to life after 1,000 years of being gone. Caira is basically thrown into a new life with no clue of how modern life works WHILE trying to regain her memory. And on the sideline, she’s being hunted for her special power, so she has to keep everything secretive ^-^
Word count: around 15,000 so far

@writerlexi1216 I love this idea! How long do you think it’ll end up being? Is it part of a series?
December 12, 2020 at 3:40 pm #87825Thanks, guys!
I have so much planned for this story that there’s no way I could fit it into just a single book. I’m thinking it may turn out to be a duology (a trilogy, if I’m brave enough) The first book might be around 90,000 words. I’m not the best at putting my writing ideas into words, so forgive me if I’m a little rusty with blurbs 😀
December 12, 2020 at 6:10 pm #87826Totally alright, I once wrote skin instead of sky, so that turned out unwell for me. What is a blurb?
Your idea sounds so cool! What is the modern world like?
I am planning on expanding my Short Story’s world and maybe making a few sequels. As I am revising I keep on noticing ways I could expand the story. But one catch for me is making a whole map of the galaxy. I’ve poked my nose around Pinterest and pinned some galaxy maps I saw there, but I am unsure. Do any of you all have experience writing sci-fi? Any tips?
Would it be too much if I posted the revised version of my story? I don’t want to crowd.
Out of curiosity, have any of you all had experience publishing on KP? Do they help you edit?

@writerlexi1216 Your blurb is great! I totally understand, though–it’s even worse when you’re writing that final, has-to-be-perfect blurb for the back book cover…
90k sounds awesome! How far along are you now?
@scoutfinch180 A blurb is that short summary of the book (minus spoilers) that is found on the back cover or inside flap of a book, or in the “product description” section on websites (like Amazon). They are surprisingly difficult to write. Like, after spending months putting this entire story into thousands of words, you’re asking me to summarize it in a couple sentences? Yeah, no. 😆I’m glad you’re going to expand your world with more stories!!! As for maps, I would suggest making a topic on here and see if anyone would actually design one for you. I know we’ve got several artists here who could help.
Ooh, DO post the revised edition! I’d love to read it!!
Well, I know that when you send in something for critique, they’ll be good to help you there–don’t know about regular submissions, though.
@whoever-asked-about-postscripts You just go to your profile (by clicking on your username), then go to where you can edit your profile, and you can add in the tagline, a little bit about yourself, and your interests, etc.
December 14, 2020 at 12:26 pm #87834Thanks!

Though I’d open this back up. How is everyone doing on their WIPs?

Pretty good!! I finally have it plotted, so I’ll try to write a good synopsis soon. I’m hoping to start writing on January 1st and write every day… *crosses fingers* If I start procrastinating, please to yell at me. 😄
