@godlyfantasy12 Looks cool. Probably just me, but the commas look like periods. (And since I read a web comic where the main girl’s called November, I had the unfortunate experience of realised your November’s gender halfway through the blurb. But that’s me, though. Not you.) Nice blurb overall!

        @gracie-j @r-m-archer @godlyfantasy12 @kathleenramm @devastate-lasting @anyone-else

So I’ve been looking at places I could submit my devotional once I finish it. Not to get ahead of myself or anything, lol, but just so I can be prepared and have some options lined up in advance.

I found a great Christian publishing house that I’ve been looking into, and it’s everything I’ve had in mind. I’ll of course have a lot of praying and thinking to do about it, but it’s one of the top choices I’m looking at right now. They require that you write to them about your book idea, and if they like it enough to ask for a proposal, you’ve got to submit a resume.

I want to be informed in advance about everything I’ll need to do once I finish the devotional. And I am a little sheepish to admit I do not know what a resume would look like for me, since I’m only fifteen years old. This publisher did publish a book written by a teen, but a teen who was a few years older than me.

So basically, I just want to be informed about what a resume would look like for a young teen. I would really appreciate you guys’ input because I just felt like y’all would know the most about this, but if anyone else knows and I didn’t tag you please feel free to answer!

@joy-caroline Hmm…I had to write a resume when applying for college…I started it back in elementary school and added on to it. Perhaps you could look up templates?

Hey guys! I thought I’d pop in and share the blurb for my WIP. šŸ™‚

A loose retelling of Medusa and Snow White, this story of jealousy and vanity explores the true meaning of beauty and self-worth.

Prove her innocence. Regain her magic.

In Osor there are two types of people: the brown-eyed Skytarrans and the blue-eyed Celekals. Born into a Skytarran family with one brown eye and one blue eye, Aria Gorgon is a miracle, making her famous throughout the country.

As the time comes for Queen Rhea to step down and select the next ruler of Osor, now sixteen-year-old Aria wants to be chosen more than anything. But when sheā€™s framed for murder on the day of the choosing ceremony, sheā€™s stripped of her most prized possessions: her magic and beauty.

Banished to the dark, mist covered and beast filled forest of Exoria, Aria faces a death sentence and has good reason to suspect that the queen was behind the framing. But when she meets others who are just like her, Aria manages to survive, wanting only to get back home so she can prove her innocence and regain her magic and beauty.

But as she evades new attempts on her life by the queen and becomes suspicious thereā€™s something her new friends arenā€™t telling her, going back doesnā€™t prove to be easy.

And as she discovers secrets about her past and the kingdom she once held so dear, she must come to terms with who she truly is. But after the queenā€™s final attack, leaving her on the brink of death, will Aria make it back to recover whatā€™s been taken from her?

This is out of nowhere (sorry), but does anybody have any advice for writing a series? Iā€™m still debating whether or not I want to turn this book into a full-fledged series (but Iā€™m thinking that I will), and didnā€™t know how to end it.Ā How much of the story do you wrap up, and how many loose ends do you leave? I just want to make sure that the pacing is right and that I definitely leave room for a sequel. If that makes any sense at all… lol. If anybody has any special tips, theyā€™d be much appreciated! <3333 Iā€™m super nervous about this, because this is my first novel and I want to do this right

                        @joy-caroline

(Hmm… didn’t want to go through… I’ll try again.Ā  Apologies if this duplicated *grins sheepishly*)

Hi Joy!Ā  I learned a bit about writing resumes in a workbook from a writing class I took, and I wrote one for when I start submitting to magazines.

First suggestion would be to forgo fancy fonts or distracting designs; editors probably lean more toward a clean, clear, yet still visually appealing presentation.Ā  @devestate-lasting mentioned resume templates, so thereā€™s a good place to start.Ā  Google Docs has one, as well as Microsoft Word (if you use either of those).Ā  Also, since editors are busy, it may help to keep the resume to one page.

Iā€™d also suggest keeping the resume more ā€˜writingā€™ related.Ā  For example, if youā€™ve won a short story contest, had a story accepted by a magazine, write a blog, etc. mention those.Ā  Or since this is a Christian publisher, consider mentioning the Christian writing groups you are a part of (Kingdom Pen, Go Teen Writers, etc.)Ā  Also, editors will want a way to contact you, so contact info on the top of the page is very helpful to them.

I believe you said that your devotional was going to be based on Paulā€™s letters to the church?Ā  If so, you could mention how long youā€™ve studied his epistles and how that background in study could qualify you to write this devotional.

Iā€™m also still new to writing resumes, so I can only share what Iā€™ve learned/been told.Ā  I hope this will help get you started.Ā  šŸ™‚

Ah, it is really hard to find advice on seriesā€™! Especially long Seriesā€™.

one tip, if ur doing a trilogy (3 books) u may wanna go check out an Authortuber named Abbie Emmons who used the 3 act story structure to show how to use it with trilogies.

So u do need to figure out roughly (I say roughly because it can be apt to change and thatā€™s a-okay) how long u want ur series to be

next, is to research and find out what type of series u wanna make (and Iā€™m not talking about genre)

There are Serials, and episodic seriesā€™, and others, so look into that

from there U kinda just gotta go for it. There isnā€™t a whole of tips for big seriesā€™, despite their fame (or at least that I can find thats super helpful) Ā I suggest looking into Authortubers (Especially two called Ā Brittany Wang and Bethany Atazadah, both have a series of episodes about seriesā€™, one is for serials and one is for a ur ā€œregularā€ series)

From there, Iā€™d just do ur own thing Ā do what works for u

for me, Iā€™ve got a rough outline of the world, the first book, and ideas and stuff for the next books, and Iā€™m drafting. If u prefer big outlines or no outlines just do what works.

We can take this journey together lol! If u want, I can make a forum post devoted to seriesā€™, and that may help us, because it honestly is tough sometimes to find stuff about writing a series!

Thank you so much, Lily! That was super helpful. I definitely think templates would be a good place to start since I don’t have too much experience. Maybe also ask my English teacher what she knows. (Which I bet is a lot, since she is sooo skilled in writing stuff she could easily publish a novel.) Thanks!

Ooh, thanks for the super helpful response! šŸ™‚ I’ve actually subscribed to Abbie Emmons’ youtube channel! She’s really great at explaining/teaching a lot of writerly things, but I need to watch more of her videos about the 3 act story structure.

I’m still not sure how long I want my series to be (like, I don’t know if it’ll be a trilogy or not). It may just be a duology, but like you said, that’s apt to change).

I’ll have to check out those types of series! (I’ve never heard of those, actually???)

I know, right? Why is it so hard to find good advice about writing sometimes? I’ll look into those youtube channels, too! I appreciate the recommendations šŸ˜‰

I’ve made a few (rough) outlines for my book, and am still working on them sort of, but I’d like to try making a map or something of my world.

Yeah, I’dĀ loveĀ to take this journey together!! I think that’s so cool that the both of us are writing series šŸ™‚ I think we could totally help each other out!

I haven’t tried writing a series, although I’ve read a lot of them.Ā  What you’re saying makes sense; on the one hand, you have to leave the story open for another adventure, but you still have to find a way to close the first book.

I suppose my top advice is to study popular, well-written series and take note of where authors leave off in a story and what they wrap up, etc.Ā  Some great examples are the Chronicles of Prydain and the first several books of Ranger’s Apprentice.Ā  Or the Lord of The Rings, TheĀ WingfeatherĀ Saga, or The Green Ember.

                                And don’t be nervous.Ā  You got this.Ā  šŸ™‚

I’m really glad that makes sense! I was hoping it wasn’t too confusing <3 Exactly! It’s finding that balance that’s so difficult, but I’ll take your advice and try studying the endings of some books! That’s a great idea šŸ™‚ Ooh, I’ve never heard of some of those books before (I’ll have to check them out!)
