Congrats! That’s amazing. I reread Philemon, Titus, and 2 Thessalonians. 🙂

If hours don't turn into daysFebruary 10, 2021 at 3:37 pm #92321How’s everybody doing today with writing? Any advice on how to deal with writer’s block? I’ve been trying to start a new chapter (from a different POV) and can’t figure out how to begin it… *sigh*…
February 10, 2021 at 4:21 pm #92326@writerlexi there’s a livestream today in about an hour and 10 minutes on YouTube. The channel user is Meredith E. Phillips. She’s doing a productivity sprint and she’s a writer, so I’m gonna be hopefully tunin in then to get some writing done if ya wanna join!

#ProtectSebFebruary 10, 2021 at 4:25 pm #92328Hi there! Sometimes, when I get writer’s block, I close my eyes and just try picturing the scene like a movie. The first lines don’t have to be perfect. Just write what you see/your character sees and feels. Or summarize what you want to say, then expand each part, bit by bit. For example, I usually get stumped on how to end a story. I just zip right through it, then when I go back to edit, I expand on the character’s emotions/thoughts/reactions, or the setting.
And if I have a serious case of writer’s block, sometimes I change up my routine, even if it’s just a minor thing (like step outside for a walk, work on a craft project, etc.) Sometimes just stepping away from the writing project helps give me some new perspective on how to start again.
If you don’t mind me asking, what’s your story about?

February 10, 2021 at 4:31 pm #92329February 10, 2021 at 4:37 pm #92330Oh, thank you x 1,000! I’ll totally try doing that! And maybe just stepping away from writing for a little while is what I need. Or what my brain needs, that is. Sure, I’d be happy to send a summary! I’m… sort of bad at writing summaries (and I don’t have an official one), but here’s the basics. It’s a fantasy, so it does have tons of magic.
My main character’s name is Caira, and she’s one of the only people left in the world with special powers (she has telekinesis). And because she has special powers, the government (who is corrupted) is trying to capture her. You see, there was a war, and Caira had to go into hiding because people with special powers were being apprehended by the government. So after the war is over, Caira has to find a way to bring magic back to the world. That’s a really dry summary (forgive me), but that’s the central idea.
Thanks again for the writerly assistance! *gives coffee as a token of thanks*
February 10, 2021 at 4:39 pm #92331Thank you for that quote! (I’ve never seen this quote before? I like it!) It never fails to make me feel better to search through positive writing quotes. And I may try doing that literally… it may help! 🙂
February 10, 2021 at 4:42 pm #92332NP:) The best keywords for finding good writing quotes are, “motivational writing quotes” “writer memes” and “quotes on writers block”. Although results may vary, depending on your search engine.
February 10, 2021 at 5:03 pm #92339Ooo, I love coffee. Thanks! And no problem. Before you know it, you’ll be back to writing in no time!
And don’t worry. My summaries are pretty cringe-worthy too. I told a friend once that my WIP is about two siblings that rescue a phoenix *slams palm onto forehead*. Of course, it’s more than that, but how can you capture it all in a short paragraph, much less a few sentences? Ahh, the downside of being a writer! We have too many words at our disposal to use.
Ahem, anyway. Your story idea sounds really cool! Thanks for sharing it. I hope it all works out 🙂

I know a lot of people say this, but I’ve found the best way is to just sit down and write. I’ve heard this advice for so long, but a few days ago I was struggling really badly so I decided to try it. Wasn’t expecting it to work since it sounds so cliché XD But I found out it really DOES work!
I’ve just been sitting down and writing a mile a minute in The Anointed, without caring how bad the writing is. I know I’ll have my work cut out for me later, but what else is editing for? With the first few drafts, I think you’re really still getting a feel for the story and your character’s POV (or multiple characters’ POVs). Don’t pressure yourself and rush to get it all figured out and written perfectly those first few times, because that’ll just end up discouraging you.
And literally, before I decided to give myself the freedom to just write and not care what it sounds like, it was taking me like an hour and a half to write 500 words. Now I’ve been cranking out 1k or more in an hour.
I hope this helped you! 💗

Oh my goodness, that was a tremendous help! Thank you so much! I think that’s one of my biggest struggles as a writer, too, thinking that my first draft has to be polished and neat and all that jazz. Which is why it’s hard for me to be content with my writing a lot of times. I’ll give this method a try! I’m sure it’s bound to work! And, yeah, I see what you mean–the first draft is just getting a feel for the story, so I shouldn’t stress about all the tiny details (I’ll save that for later).
Wow, that’s a word count boost! That’s amazing. Thank you immensely for the reply! 🙂
