So I finally came up with a plot summary for my newest WIP, The Anointed, a companion to The Apostle’s Sister. I wanted to get you guys’ opinion about it. Does it sound like a story you’d be interested in reading? Does it sound as interesting as TAS, more interesting, less interesting, etc.? I’m looking for your honest feedback! Here’s the summary I wrote:
–
When only three years old, he’s abandoned and dumped at a “shelter for orphans.” That’s where he meets Temira, a gentle deaconess who becomes his new mother. Carried to her home, he is nursed back to health with the help of her brother Paul, a strange man others call an apostle.
Mama and Uncle Paul rename him Seth, informing him he is anointed of their God, Jesus Christ. Though not knowing what that means, Seth enjoys his new name, forgetting his old one. But it isn’t long before his new life brings new trauma. With horrible events etched in his mind, he gives up belief in the God his uncle preaches. To dull the pain, he forms a friendship with a young girl named Jerusha – whom no one else can see.
When more tragedy strikes, Seth finally decides to take matters into his own hands and discover his real self. In the process, he finds another young friend – a girl who is, coincidentally, also named Jerusha.
With Jerusha alongside him, Seth begins to unveil the harrowing details of his past. Mama and Uncle Paul can never know his true identity, but it’s only a matter of time until they find out. What will happen then? And where does Jesus Christ – whom Uncle Paul calls love – exist in all this?
The Anointed is a story of compassion, suffering, and unconditional love – the story of one insignificant little life anointed by God to save an empire.

So, what did you guys think? Does it sound like enough to justify a novel-length story? Thanks for taking the time to read and give feedback! I really appreciate it.

I think you definitely have the makings of a novel! And from a person who is particular about literature, I LOVE IT! I’d absolutely want this story on my bookshelf. My only question is: how old is Seth? I’m just thinking from the aspect of what different ages can understand and react to. But that’s the only thing. This outline is incredible:D
January 24, 2021 at 2:12 am #90095So here is what I have unearthed from the depths of the search engine, Ecosia XD
(Ecosia is like Google but is an eco-friendly thing and they plant trees with your internet searches).Anyway, the one thing about this info, if that depending on the time era, and country, the laws, and traditions of royalty can vary. But in general:
A king’s advisor is generally called the Royal Advisor.
A king would hold meetings and discussions with the Royal Council in the Council Chamber
A king would generally have a regent until the age of 18.
As for royal titles, I found an amazing article on Wikipedia called, ‘Imperial, royal and noble ranks.’ It covers just about every title possible! And I found researching the keyword ‘castle rooms diagram,’ and pushing the ‘images’ button will bring up a whole bunch of castle diagrams, including all the places in a castle. But different castles are built in different ways, so with the basics out of the way: kitchen, bedrooms, library, ballroom, dining hall, stables, throne room, etc; a lot is left to imagination and such.
And then as for a king’s responsibilities, when a prince (or whatever his original title was) becomes king, he would take the oath of kingship and some of his responsibilities would include: the kingdom’s wealth, defending, upholding, or making law, maintaining peace in the realm, administering justice, fighting foreign invaders, keeping nobles from fighting each other when possible, suppress crime and banditry.
Oh yes, and you mentioned that you had trouble finding things with the search engine when trying to find a specific search such as “is there an official title for a king’s advisor?” For me, it helps to change up the question (search engines always respond differently to different keywords). So instead you could type, “what do you call a king’s advisor” or “what is the title for a king’s advisor.” That and Wikipedia is one of my favorites for basic info and finding resources to track down.
I hope I was able to help you out some. Personally, I had fun researching:) Best of writerly wishes!

Seth is 7-9 years old when the novel takes place (it covers a period of about two years, though he is 6 years old for about the first two chapters). He does have lots of flashbacks, though, reaching back to when he was 3. (When Temira first adopted him.)
Thanks for your feedback! I’m still working on the plot, but it’s good to know this story has potential.
January 24, 2021 at 7:35 am #90103@joy-caroline This sounds absolutely amazing! I’d say you should definitely go for it!
Lately, it's been on my brain
Would you mind letting me know
If hours don't turn into daysJanuary 24, 2021 at 8:59 am #90104Oh my WORD! THANK YOU! This is incredibly helpful to the chapter I’m writing right now, so thanks so much! This is just what I was looking for, honestly. I can have trouble sometimes with Google, so it may be worth checking Ecosia out… I’ll totally be referencing this info though. And the Wikipedia page, too. Thanks for the detailed reply, I really appreciate it!! 🙂

@joy-caroline I LOVE it! I would TOTALLY read it!!!!
@writerlexi1216 I just remembered that I have a TON of resources all about castles. I don’t know if you’d need any info on that, but every king needs a castle, right?
@abigail-m I may, um, copy and paste your reply to Lexi in a doc for future reference… XDJanuary 24, 2021 at 11:14 am #90109@joy-caroline
I think it’s SUPER AWESOME!!!!!! It’s waaaaay better than my synopsis for Into the Lamp.
I’m terrible at writing those things. It sounds like enough for a full-length novel!!!! <33 AWESOME JOB!God gives His hardest battles to His strongest soldiers.
