From: Angelita, 4647 Flambert Lane, Dingyville, Maryland, The United States

        Dear Mel,

That pool sounds scary. What is an inbetween place? How do you get to one? Were there frogs at that weird indoor pool? Frogs are way less gross than boys. FROGS don’t leave their underpants all over the bathroom floor.

I don’t know how I keep track of everyone. I have three brothers and three sisters. I’m the second youngest. Suzi is the oldest, then Crystal, Thad, Jubilee, and Clement. After me is Ed. Short for Eduardo, but I only call him that when he’s annoying. Suzi is short for Suzette, which people do call her, and Thad is short for Thaddeus, which no one calls him unless he’s in trouble. I call him that when he leaves his underpants on the floor. Dad has a job. He complains about it at dinner. Mom stays home with us. Suzi babysits us sometimes. She’s bossy and she burns dinner.

My favorite animal is a flying snake. It used to be worms, but then Thea told me about flying snakes. Thea knows a lot about animals. She wants to study them when she grows up. When I grow up I want to be a sientist scientist but I don’t know what kind yet. What do you want to be? I have a stuffed flying snake. I bought him from the zoo. He cost three of my allowances and I named him Noodle. He and Bearium, who’s a bear, are my best friends. I named Bearium after an element on the periodick periodic table. I got him when I was a baby and his name used to be Bear, but that’s boring. I’m reading a book about the elements. There are 118. Barium is 56 and it’s a metal. I think cesium is my favorite. They have to keep it in a special contaner  kontaner container to keep it from exploding. Do you have a favorite element? It’s okay if you don’t. Suzi says most people don’t. Do you have any stuffies?

        -Angelita

        P. S. I’m growing mold for an experimint. It’s on a piece of bread in my room. It’s green and blue and fuzzy.

P.P.S. Sorry I spelled experament wrong. Suzi fixes the rest of my spelling but I don’t want her to find the mold.

Hi Brea, I’m most sorry for my late reply, I considered sending this letter and changed my mind many times as I wasn’t sure you wanted one in the first place. Well, I’ve always wanted a penpal so at most maybe this can make your brother pleased. Feel free to let me know if you truly do not want letters. You say you are busy so I would understand. What are you so busy with?

I don’t dig though trash but if I accidentally knock over a wastebasket I will look to see if there is anything interesting. It’s different.

Oh, and I should add a short introduction in case you do wish to write back. My name is Flax, I’m 15. I’m not sure what else to say for myself as I’m quite unsure these days of everything, but I will never say no to having more friends and I’m glad to make your acquaintance. I hope this letter finds you well.

          From,

          Flax

            Dear Flax,

I am busy with many things such as school and piano lessons and taking care of Mother. It is a lot, and I don’t want to fall behind in my studies. I suppose writing to you won’t be such a waste of time, though. I can practice my penmanship.

Flax is a strange name. I like it. Where are you from? I have never heard of 21st Palace Avenue in Linmaus. Are you from one of the mountain towns?

It is nice to meet you, and I hope you are doing well.

            Sincerely,

            Brea
