Ah. Makes sense. She has some wisdom. XD
(I very much overthought this question)
That’s valid. I just spent 20 minutes researching the Pre-Raphealite art movement because I was wondering if it would be a better term than “medieval” for costume design. Result: it would not.

I wouldn’t call it that

XD that is very relatable. Sounds like it was a pretty fun rabbit trail to go down though. I love learning about art history

August 1, 2026 at 5:12 pm #213133I grow sadder and more bitter just reading that lol.
He is searching the world for his people, but everyone died before he got there. I think anyone in that position would grow bitter after a while.
His story does have a lovely ending though, right? *squints through my ProtectionsquadTM Sunglasses*
I should hope so! I’ve tried to plan an ending, but I have around three different ideas for it, so we’ll see. All three MCs flirt with death a lot.
We love a royal dumpster diver. XD This is great. What would he think of thrift/second hand stores?
Royal Dumpster Diver is one of his official titles now. I love that. He would love thrift stores. He’s one of those kids who would hide between racks of clothing, smell all of the fabrics, and steal the price tags. He’d hang around in there until those clothes are moth-eaten.
*Slaps knee*
As much as I like his family and culture, it’s got a dark side that smells suspiciously like deceit or maybe even treason.
Treason, you say? That’s probably the dark shadow of everything Wilhelm thinks his family stands for. And what would treason mean, exactly? Does it mean his bloodline is forever tainted?
He never stops being a super zealous knight though.
Good for him! He doesn’t lose all of his character just because his culture falls under question.

Speaking of rabbit trails, I was going to tell you – I started reading about changelings in folklore, and it’s been argued that changelings were an explanation for special-needs kids. I think that idea is so interesting and sad.

August 1, 2026 at 6:00 pm #213137@whalekeeper Yeah I’ve heard that idea a lot. And I’ve heard people say that it could have also come from neurodivergent kids. I know that autistic people can give neurotypical people an uncanny valley feeling sometimes. I’ve always felt connected to modern changeling characters. That idea fascinates me. But also I like the classic creepy evil changeling characters. Changelings are cool. Now I want to go read some old fairytales.

August 2, 2026 at 12:20 am #213140Yes, me literally killing Baron isn’t very cool, but the realization about the Elementals that resulted from it is cool!
I can see what you’re saying. It’s fun to come up with specific details, and have them seamlessly click in your head like that.
I do believe you’re just mentioning the chest compressions to pacify me, though.
Oh. Actually, I have a theory about Baron now but I’ll keep it to myself.
Nuh-huh! Not until you give me Sebster Gangster and Hugo!
As if. You can’t save a character from something if you don’t know what you’re saving them from. I find it funny that people know something happened to Seb, but after all these years on KP, people still don’t know what it is.
Not that it matters, because I haven’t talked about him in so long anyways.

August 2, 2026 at 12:23 am #213141And I have been writing a bit! I finally finished the first draft of my WIP in June. I’m working on chapter 8 of draft two currently.
Congrats!! That sounds so fun. I love editing, personally, although maybe you don’t feel that way. What’s this WIP about? Have I heard about it before or is it a recent thing?

No, no they actually do bring him back to life. He’s alive, just a little bit in shock because of the wind loosing connection and how his heart stopped.
There’s actually a “cool” explanation behind what or who stopped his heart.
Oh. Actually, I have a theory about Baron now but I’ll keep it to myself.
What?! I wanna know!

I will still take him! And then find out.
We’ll all find out eventually, I’m sure. Though, I wish I could keep my own secrets as well as you keep yours. I always have to tell someone about what goes on in this head.

August 2, 2026 at 8:57 am #213147Wait, what scene is this? Is this a scene where he almost dies in the middle of the story, or is this the end of his story?
What?! I wanna know!
I was going to say if it was his ending and you decided to bring him back, maybe he loses his connection to the wind permanently and that’s his punishment rather than dying. But idk if that works.

There’s a mystery plot and a lot of weird elements. If I spoiled his backstory, it would spoil the mystery of the setting. So I keep my mouth zipped.
I don’t know why it’s easy for me to do that. Maybe it’s because this story enthralls me in a way, and writing it entertains me, so I don’t feel the need to talk about it!
Although Loops has a bad habit of getting secrets out of me, so she knows a little bit about it.

I guess it’s my turn to be a tease. I can’t tell you yet, because if I tell you, I’m gonna bury myself into it more and neglect what I actually *should* be working on. I will say this however, it’s at a point where Baron is facing one of his greatest fears.
I was going to say if it was his ending and you decided to bring him back, maybe he loses his connection to the wind permanently and that’s his punishment rather than dying. But idk if that works.
I had considered that. I decided against it because if his heart “beats with the wind” then when he’s alive again, why would the connection not be re-established? The way Elemental’s work, it’s sort of like if a normal human had above-average hearing. They’re born with it, but obviously if they die, they can’t hear anymore. However, once they’re brought back, if their eardrums aren’t damaged, they have hearing again (side note: Rya’s powers are like forcing ear plugs on them.) This isn’t a perfect comparison obviously as hearing isn’t connected to your blood really, but I think it helps?
I could possibly have the person who stopped his heart also stop the flow of what makes him an Elemental, but this person doesn’t know what exactly makes someone an Elemental (the scientific biological reason isn’t discovered for at least another 50-100 years), not even Baron knows (which is important to this scenario) so it’d be weird if they did that as well.
Obviously, Rya can block an Elemental’s powers, but she doesn’t know how it works exactly, it just does. Her power baffles even the elves.
Did that leave you with more questions or answer some?

August 2, 2026 at 2:40 pm #213149it’s been argued that changelings were an explanation for special-needs kids
That explains a lot
I should not be happy about this because if I lived in that time period someone probably would’ve murdered me by now, but I am happy about it.
now i just need cool stripes.
Gerald handled that. You don’t question Gerald. (if you know you know)
August 2, 2026 at 6:21 pm #213150Congrats!! That sounds so fun. I love editing, personally, although maybe you don’t feel that way. What’s this WIP about? Have I heard about it before or is it a recent thing?
Thanks! Honestly, I wasn’t sure how I was going to like it since this is the first time I’ve ever made it to draft #2. It is fun though! I feel like I’m basically just using the rough draft as an outline at this point lol.
Pretty much anything I’ve posted that has to do with my stories (which is like nothing, really) is probably from this WIP. I’m currently calling it the Swords of Eldallion.
People in Eldallion forged weapons with different dark curses, and they are either overcome by these curses or they use it for power purposes. There is a type of sword– which I haven’t found a specific name for yet– that can fight against these curses and not be taken down by them. It is a gold sword that was given to the people by the Almighty to fight the darkness. That’s kind of the concept behind the title. There’s a plot that goes along with all this, but idk if this makes sense and I don’t want to keep rambling if it doesn’t XD

Oh no that’s alright lol!! Thanks! XD

August 4, 2026 at 10:21 pm #213159Did that leave you with more questions or answer some?
That answers enough questions. Although I guess I have one more. Is all this worldbuilding and character stuff new? I’m curious to know how the novella is coming along, what with this recent disclosing of information.
Yeah, it’s cool how many different ways there are to depict a changeling, and I wonder if there are any modernish stories that take the whole neurodivergence theory as inspiration. I haven’t read one like that before.
But I know a changeling story with a different, fun premise. It’s called The Oddmire: Changeling and it’s about a pair of twins. One of them is a changeling, but has kept his human form since he was a baby, and the brothers themselves don’t know which of them is the fake. I recommend it! It’s been years since I read it, and I only remember a few sparse details, but I remember it was a really enjoyable MG book.
Cool! Don’t worry, it makes sense. So it’s a weapons-inspired magic system. Is the gold sword the only good powerful weapon, or are there other weapons with good powers that are in league with the Almighty’s sword?

I have had that same premise idea for a while now and I am simultaneously disappointed that someone beat me to it, and very happy that a story like that exists and is published. I shall check it out.
