        Hello everyone!

You may or may not have heard me rave about the MARKED series. It’s a medieval story about a prince who’s caught in a whirl. With the commoners and the nobles both blaming each other, he’s not sure which side is right. I’ll post a video about the series down below.

Now, Given Hoffman (the author) is launching her Kickstarter for Book 3!!!!!!!! I’m quite sure this is going to be the last book in the series.

You can join the campaign! When it launches on September 30th, there will be many ways you can pledge to help Given Hoffman reach her goal. Her goal is to reach $2000 by November 20th so she can publish Book 3. It’s been a rough road for her to complete this last book, so she doesn’t have enough funds to launch her book alone.

There’s not much on the Kickstarter yet, so please click on the “Notify me on launch” button. That way, you’ll get notified when the Kickstarter opens. Given Hoffman is going to have some awesome rewards for backers!

Here’s the link to the Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/givenhoffman/the-healers-secret-medieval-action-adventure-novel

And if you can, please share with others!!!! Her books are amazing and have greatly benefited my life both as a Christian and a young writer. I want to give her all the support I can.

Here is some information Given Hoffman shared about what the Kickstarter will look like/how it works:

        WHAT TO EXPECT:

How it works, if you wish to participate: On the day the campaign starts (God willing, Sept 30th), you’ll visit the Kickstarter page and decide how you would like to “back” The Healer’s Secret’s campaign.

How do I back the campaign? You back the campaign by selecting a reward you would like to receive for the amount of funding you want to pledge toward this project’s campaign.

What are the rewards? They’re items the project’s creator ( me) has made and listed on Kickstarter for you. I’ve included an image of what this looks like and a list below of some of the rewards. The campaign displays like an online store (pledge amounts are included on each item, and physical items will have shipping added at checkout).

        Rewards on this campaign:

Early bird ebook copies of The Healer’s Secret ($7)
Signed paperback copies of The Healer’s Secret, with paper map, and a unique medieval bookmark
Discounted ebooks of all three books in MARKED
Signed paperback copies of all three books
Canvas map of The Three Kingdoms ($10)
Plus, other cool rewards that I’ll reveal on the Kickstarter campaign itself
Additionally: Each backer who pledges funding for a reward, while the campaign is live will get acknowledged in The Healer’s Secret book as a backer.

How do I make my pledge? Once you choose what reward you would like to back, you’ll hit the “Pledge $” button, then enter your debit or credit card like you would for any other online purchasing. The difference is that this pledge amount and reward will only be charged and received when/if the project hits its funding goal.

How does the project launch via its funding: Kickstarter uses an “all-or-nothing” funding process. This means the project’s creator sets a funding goal-the amount needed for the project’s completion. (In my case, my funding goal is $2,000.) If the project’s funding goal is reached, the project launches, your pledge is taken, and upon its deliver date you will receive the reward that you backed.

Do I have to make up my mind right away about backing this project?

No, you don’t have to make a pledge right away. But if you want your pledge to count toward the project’s funding goals, you do have to make your pledge while the campaign is still live, in the case of my Kickstarter, the 21 day window between Sept 30th and Nov 20th.

Kickstarter will have a running notification of how many days are left on the campaign. There are technically late pledge options, but these will only be available if the project’s funding goal is reached, so it’s important to back while the campaign is live, otherwise the project may not succeed.

Why you might want to get in early on the rewards:

There will be two special early bird rewards available only for short windows of time at the very beginning of the campaign.

Ebook: Early Bird Special of The Healer’s Secret ($7) will be available for the first 24hrs. (After that it goes up to $10)

Early Special: Signed Paperback, Paper Map, and Medieval Bookmark ($25) will be available exclusively during the first 48hrs.

There is also a limited supply of certain of the rewards, so even though they will technically be available during the whole 21 day campaign, their supply may run out. So you will want to check out the campaign quickly before certain items, especially the one-of-a-kind rewards, are no longer available.

(This is also why you may really want to opt-in to receiving the notifications from the campaign.)

I write random stuff for my LD WIP in my email drafts. It can be planning, action scenes, descriptions, character-focused scenes, etc. None of it is serious in the sense of an official draft. This is casual writing for one WIP that doesn’t have a first draft yet.

Out of curiosity, I copy-pasted all the scenes into a document and checked the word count. It was over 40,000 words. That doesn’t count stuff I didn’t find or didn’t believe was worthy enough.

And I am currently struggling to finish drafting a 6,000 words short story. This is embarrassing. What am I doing?? Does anyone else have a project that moves quickly and another one that moves like a snail?

                @whalekeeper

First off, congratulations on the side project! It may not be serious, but that much accomplished is exciting.

                Secondly…

                YES.

Ugh. Somethings are just easier to write. I joined CWM with Heirs of Ashes book 1 as my WIP. I’ve gotten a few thousand words done, but it’s so hard to write for some reason.

Meanwhile, I had to set aside a fairytale rewrite because I knew I would get too sucked into writing it and never get my focus WIP done. It was just so fluid….

                  Firstly, thank you!

                  Secondly…

Indeed. The fluid projects are much too distracting, especially when they are fairy tales. What is it about those? Anyway, what is that project about? And Heirs of Ashes for that matter.

Ok y’all. I’m going to post this because I feel like the KP squad would come for me if I didn’t.

                    *ominous silence*

Lol. Just kidding. It’s nothing bad. I’m starting a newsletter!

It’s for my illustrating business as well as my writing. If getting a letter in your inbox every other week with mini blog style articles/poetry and business updates sounds boring, don’t feel pressured to subscribe! (It’ll make procrastinating easier on me after all.) I’m wanting feedback more than marketing, but it is technically a marketing scam to convince you to spend money on my nonexistent merchandise. *gasp of terror*

In all seriousness, it’s basically a blog without the domain, and has yet to be accused of infesting people’s inboxes (sorry, that was supposed to be serious, wasn’t it?). If you do want to subscribe, comment here, or on my profile. If I already have your email, you’re set. If not, we’ll probably get to do the “make a disappearing comment” trick. Or you could wait until I have a system set up so you can subscribe by filling out a form/mashing a button.

…..And I should have made a separate thread for that under the Platform section. Just blithely disobeying the rules here like I don’t remember the days of moderators. But who do we think we are, YDubs?

I love having a thread for literally everything.

                        @whalekeeper

I have no idea what makes them the way they are. They’re just dangerous. XD It’s a rewrite of the original A Little Mermaid mixed with what I vaguely understand of the Disney version with a splash of something else entirely. She’s an assassin chosen because she’s the most “pitiful” looking siren the king’s men could find. The reason she can’t speak is because if she did, it would give her away, since siren voices in this world sound like instruments. She looks human except kinda albino and her people weave their clothes out of seaweed, a beautiful thing underwater. But she’s not underwater anymore, and she’s scared. If she doesn’t kill the heir of the Sea King’s enemy, she will be driven mad by a growing pain in her feet. But what if his brother is the kindest man she ever met? What if there were eternal consequences for what she did? What if… the blood curse was paid by someone else?

Hehe. Obviously, a splendidly distracting thing. Especially since she has a pet octopus that finds its way into a tide pool so it can keep an eye on her.

Heirs of Ashes is Viktor and Alyona’s story. Viktor, Alyona, and Nadian don’t remember the fire that took their home and left Vitkor with crippling scars. Their lives are normal now. Yartas is a wonderful place to grow up. But circumstances are changing again. An old warning is echoing over the sea. They may not remember, but someone else does. Some embers never die.

                        What’s yours about?

Aah, I see. That seems very tempting. I’m sure that project calls to you as beautifully as a siren calls its prey. *Coughs* I’ll show myself out.

Is Heirs of Ashes a fantasy? Viktor struck me as a character who feels like he’s in a historical fiction, but in a good way, where if he’s actually in a different genre it adds color to his character.

Yes, it is. I’m glad he feels like historical fiction (in a good way)! It’s set in an ancient/early iron age world, so the cultures etc. are incredibly historically inspired. *is so happy because worldbuilding*
