Ahh! I’m so sorry for not replying soon! The notification email got buried in my inbox! 😭
Anyway, it sounds like a really cool story!! It’s giving me Wingfeather Saga vibes, is that what inspired the concepts?? I would love to hear more about the characters and their personalities/backstories!!

November 9, 2024 at 10:22 am #189489I know you’ve already gotten a lot of replies, but I’d be happy to help you brainstorm later today! We can even coordinate being active at the same time if you want some back and forth brainstorming! :))

November 9, 2024 at 11:13 am #189497Thank you SO much for responding! Luckily I made it to my bed before he entered, but I am still in fear! Even though I woke up at 7, I have been hiding in my bed! My cat is most dangerous at late at night, and early morning!
So, I’m going to decided that this is you being horrid, and then tentatively send it and hope I didn’t misjudge the situation.
No, oh no! I hope I didn’t come off as that!
And a cat attacking you?
Unless you have a little demon cat, I don’t think that would really happen.
… He is…
I am about 99.9% sure this is payback because you have been at me ever since I tagged you instead of Beth.
It was NOT! I have honestly forgotten about that! Plus I just laughed it off, I was just getting back at you to be funny…
yeah there is no way that story is real. Nope. No way.
I also wish that it was just fiction..
So, good luck
Thank you…

November 9, 2024 at 11:18 am #189498You seriously posted to me last night because your cat was chasing you?!
I would not stand for that. Throw the thing in the broom closet or the basement until he’s learned his lesson. Cat’s are not the master of the house. You are. Don’t let him think otherwise.

November 9, 2024 at 12:10 pm #189506Glad to see you’re alive. I was kind of concerned. 😂
The squirrels are collecting more nuts than usual this winter. I've already lost 3 relatives.
November 12, 2024 at 1:33 pm #189703Discussion question. What is the difference between a protagonist and a hero? What qualities do you like to see in a protagonist, and do you prefer them to be a ‘hero’ or nay?
I’mma throwing this out there because I like reading people’s responses. 🙂

November 12, 2024 at 4:37 pm #189706@whalekeeper In my mind, I see it as:
Protagonist–The main character or character whose arc we’re following. The POV character in a first-person story.
Hero–Subtype of protagonist. Usually someone with a sense of good and evil, a person with moral standards they won’t break unless in an extreme situation, a person worth emulating at least by the end of the story. Often they have specific reasons for why they do what they do.
In other words, “hero” typically implies a main character that is or will be morally or spiritually “good” (or at least appearing to be), and “protagonist” just means the main character.

Well, I’m slowly getting back into a rhythm too. I’m starting to write consistently as well. I’m hoping to start working on a WIP. I’ve also started freelancing and am writing for an Amish magazine, which is very exciting! So far, I’ve had one story win 3rd place in their contest and get printed, and they recently accepted another Christmas I wrote. I’m planning on writing an article about siblings and sending that to them, and also some true written accounts of my life on an Amish dairy farm. I’m thinking they will enjoy reading about an English girl working/living on an Amish farm.
that sound so exciting!! (I’ve thought about sending in a short story to a magazine, I just haven’t done the research to find a good one 😝) That’s actually so cool though! I’m glad you have this opportunity to get published!!
Other than writing, I’ve also gotten back into a rhythm of training Buddy. I’m really focusing on him again, and he’s learned a lot!
Awesome! Our dog could probably use some training… he’s smart and knows the commands, in fact he’s more than capable of doing them, he just doesn’t like to listen and we probably don’t enforce it enough. 😑😂
I’m also helping my family get the garden ready for spring, and I’m also studying and preparing for getting chickens in the spring as well. On top of that, I’m working on finishing designing my family’s 2024 photo book and working on projects in order to publish my father’s book in early spring next year. I also clean AFC’s (the ministry we live at) lodge every week and sometimes have online farm work to do.
Coolio!
I’m also working at getting to bed on time and waking up early so I can get all these things done! (And currently, I recovering from a pretty long sickness. It’s the winter cleanse.)
That’s always a good idea! 😂
Aw man, not fun. I had the stomach bug a few weeks back, literally the day before a tournament game. But I still showed up to the game next day on a practically empty stomach (because i hadn’t eaten the day before and food didn’t look appetizing that day) and somehow managed to play a tight match for an hour and a half. 💀🤣But, over all that, I’m trusting Jesus and learning to grow in faith in Him. That was a big theme this year for me: growing my faith. I had some really dark moments this past year, dealing with sin in my life, but His work in me is greater than evil and His is the victory.
So, yes! I’m pretty busy, but I love getting things done. (I’m a 100% choleric. We thrive on accomplishing things!!!) And, when I do get anxious about all the stuff I haven’t completed yet, Jesus is always there to point to me that He said, “Be anxious for nothing!” and “Trust in Me always” and “Acknowledge Me in everything you do” and “I am always with you, so you don’t have to fear”. Ahhhhh…yes, He is so good!
Yes, that’s so good!! 🎉 I love hearing about how others are growing in Christ because it’s so encouraging to me. 🤗 Praise the Lord!!
What are you currently writing?”
Right now I’m working on a YA/NA contemporary romance that starts in the Midwest, but most of it takes place in Italy. The main theme is trusting and listening to God and waiting on His timing because His plans are always so much better than ours.
I kinda want to work on a Christmas story, but we’ll see if that actually happens or not. 🤷🏻♀️😂

November 14, 2024 at 1:36 pm #189822Thanks for moving us!
Awesome! Our dog could probably use some training… he’s smart and knows the commands, in fact he’s more than capable of doing them, he just doesn’t like to listen and we probably don’t enforce it enough. 😑😂
Yes! Every dog is smart and can learn very fast. They are brilliant! That’s how they get away with a lot of stuff. That and us not being consistent. Being consistent is super important, and I’m still learning that.
That’s always a good idea! 😂

What does NA mean? Neat! If you ever need feedback on your story, I’d love to help! I currently have a WIP idea in mind which I’m starting to flesh out.
I have some questions: how much plotting did you do before starting to write it? Do you flesh out the 3 Act plot first?
So far, I’ve never worked on an actual big book, and I’m slightly nervous/at a loss on how to start! I know I should plot it out, which I’m working on, but I still stare at the empty page, thinking, “How am I going to start this!!” I know I should just get on with it, but any tips will help me!!!!

I have been learning to animate in Blender…..
and I believe I have partaken in one of the most glorious feelings known to man:
animating something and watching it move by itself, and thinking that this has been your greatest creation thus far.
Was this how God felt when he created humankind?
(Mine, of course, is a good deal less perfect lol.)
but either way:
yeah, ignore the who of it; no, I didn’t make the model, I merely moved it around; and yes, my animating’s kinda janky but look how smooth his movements are, robotic as they may seem!
am I happy with this? Yes, I’m very happy with this.
It won’t be long before I’ll be making my own characters to animate…..and make short films of my own WIPs or something. (if any of y’all wanna voice act someday, I’m good with that lol)

anyone want a random possible scene from the 3rd book? 👀
Ngl, y’all, I think this brotherly dynamic is going to be the best part of Book 3😆💜💜 It’s just so freaking adorable and sweet and just AGHHH I love my bois😭😭
ANYWHOOOOOOOOOOO
SCENE!!!!
He had to be around somewhere close. He couldn’t have gotten away so quickly—or could he? Leon brushed back a loose curl, stepped around a corner of the house, turned his head, and paused.
Ah. There he was.
Leon crossed the grass and went around the barn so he’d come in the opposite direction of where Riker sat, ensuring that Riker would hopefully see him before Leon got too close. He stepped into the barn, Riker’s gaze already on him. “Found you.”
Riker pulled his knees closer to his chest, burying his face in his risen knees. “Go back to the house.”
“Sorry, no can do,” Leon shook his head, stepped forward, and sank down the length of the wall beside Riker, “you can’t get rid of me that easily.”
Riker lifted his head, sighed, faced Leon, and offered a wry smile. “Too bad.”
“I’ll be a thorn in your side for this side of eternity.”
“Not on the other side?”
Leon grinned. “I’m not so sure God will let me cause trouble for you in Heaven.”
Riker laughed. He slowly lowered his knees and raised his eyebrows at Leon. “Did Iris ask you to come find me?”
“She asked me to talk to you…but yes. I would’ve come to find you regardless though.”
Riker sighed. He reached up to brush back a loose lock of brown hair and worried his bottom lip, two things that almost seemed to be a natural habit for him. He lifted his knees back up to his chest, crossed his arms, and rested his arms on his knees.
Leon raised an eyebrow. “So…why are you out here in the barn alone?”
“I’m sure you could ask almost anyone else.”
“I’m sure I could…”
“A thorn in my side, huh?”
“Avoiding the question will get you nowhere.” Leon replied, adjusting his position on the floor.
Riker glanced away and released a deep breath. “…I yelled at Lily.”
Leon slowly nodded.
Riker didn’t yell—he was unsure if he’d ever seen anyone that yelled less than Riker.
“She snuck up behind me when I was in the barn earlier, and…and I got angry with her. I yelled, and I…I hurt her.”
“Did you apologize?”
“Yes, but—”
“Then you already made up for it. You realized that you messed up, apologized, asked for forgiveness, and it’s over.”
“It’s not that simple, Leon.”
Leon raised an eyebrow. “Then what else is wrong? Care to explain?”
Riker’s eyes widened. He quickly shook his head. “No. Nothing for you to worry about.”
“Sounds like there’s a lot more than just yelling at Lily going on. Are you worried that you’re becoming your father?”
Riker groaned. “I shouldn’t have told you about that.”
“You’re not him, Riker. You love your wife and kids more than I think almost anyone understands. You’re lucky to have them, and they’re lucky to have you, and if you don’t see that, then you must be blind.”
“I mess up all the time.”
“Everyone does. I have no idea what I’m doing raising three kids. You’re gonna mess up, you’re gonna have to apologize, you’re gonna fall short…but I think we have to cherish those moments too. Trust me…life doesn’t last forever.”
Riker’s blue gaze met Leon’s brown, sparked with a quick, fragile flash of…shame? Guilt?
“So maybe you should stop ignoring your problems,” Leon rose to his feet, smiled, “and start seeing the good in yourself that everyone except you can see.”
“Maybe I’m not the only one that ignores his problems.” Riker countered.
Leon was doing just fine—he was.
Footsteps sounded, and Elias stepped into the barn with a wide smile. “Mrs. Schind says that dinner is almost ready—are you coming?”
Leon smiled and tousled Elias’ blonde locks. “We’ll be there in a minute, buddy. Go get ready for dinner.”
Elias nodded, gave Leon a quick hug, and took off back onto the grass and up towards the house.
Leon stepped towards Riker and offered a hand. “That’s our cue to go.”
Riker gripped his forearm, stood, and furrowed his eyebrows. “Funny how I can’t ignore you, but you can ignore me.”
Leon shrugged. “I’m hard to ignore.”
Riker smiled sadly. “I’m sure it’s just as hard to ignore your grief.”
He lightly socked Riker’s left arm. “They’re waiting for us: we’d better not keep everyone waiting.”
He stepped out of the barn and out onto the grass, heading back for the house.
Riker was just…well, he was just being Riker, trying to help even though Leon needed none.
Leon was fine.
Life was good. He had a good house. He had wonderful kids…his gifts, the lights in his world.
He wasn’t ignoring problems.
He wasn’t ignoring grief.
He was just living life to the fullest with his kids…he was.
Leon continued through the grass, back up to the house where everyone awaited.
But such thoughts failed to stop the burn of the tears that filled his eyes.

November 15, 2024 at 11:23 am #189871YAY!!! Ooo, it was so good!!!
Hey, did you get some ideas for this scene from the brainstorming we did? (Him yelling at Lily and all?)
I love the dynamics, and I can’t wait to see how they got from hating each other to this. (Well, i guess Riker never hated Leon, but, you know.)
Anyhow! Awesome job! And, i think you writing is really improving!
You know, if you ever feel like you wish you could have done the first book better, you could always re-release in a few years and make a few adjustments! I love it the way it is, but I have noticed you keep talking about how much better these books will be in comparison because of the writing style.
Anyhow, I can’t wait!!
